Thank you so much for posting this! I was 3 years old when this special aired and my parents who grew up watching Howdy Doody had taped it for me. I watched it countless times throughout my childhood and nearly wore out the old VHS tape so it is great to see this again!
Me too!! I was also three when this came out, and wore out the VHS my mom taped it on. I now have the special edition 40th birthday Howdy Doody Doll from this! : )
I remember watching this twice in 87. Once on Thanksgiving day and another time in Dec. of that year. I was in 6th grade. I used to rent the home video every so often. I wish I grew up in the 50's. One of the best shows ever! I saw Double Doody at the Smithsonian instatute in both 1985 and again in 1987. To me 1987 was the year of the Doody.
Back in 1987, NBC produced a special entitled It's Howdy Doody Time: A 40 Year Celebration. This special salutes the popular TV puppet, with clips from old shows, celebrity guests, and cast updates.
Princess Summerfallwinterspring's granddaughter here is played by none other than Stevie Louise Vallance, best known for playing the role of Jenny Ballinger on "The Ropers", as well as Party Popple on "Popples", Whazzat Kangaroo on "Zoobilee Zoo" and Mouse on "ReBoot".
One of those guests was former kid actor:Mr.Jerry Mathers(Of "Leave It To Beaver" Fame)sitting in"The Peanut Gallery"with one of his kids..his son..Mr.Noah Mathers.
Wow, I think your even prettier then the original Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring! I bet it must have been great to play that role even though it was for one Television special.
specterman2000 thanks, it's so great to be part of the 'retro' wave -- Milton Berle told me I had nice legs in the make-up room. Such great memories with the real Bob and Clarabelle too...
Did...the producers understand what the song "One" is about? Because the entire point of the song is that every dancer is forced to do the exact same combinations/move which robs them of everything that makes them unique. It's dark. So pretty sure getting an actual chorus line of dancers dressed like Howdy Doody doing Fosse style mannequin arm choreography to the same synchronized kick you see at the end of A Chorus Line doesn't have the meaning they think it does.

I actually met Clara bell in The 80's at the exton square mall.. in exton, Pennsylvania .he wasn't wearing his original costume but he told me who he was!!
Used to watch howdy doody when i was little. Just came avross this but as i was watching question came to my mind-why di the clown have a girl's name clarabell but was supposed to be a man?
It's not a movie; it was made for television. Back when it was made, the only aspect ratio in common use for U.S. TV was 4:3. The 16:9 ratio that is common nowadays wasn't widely used until years later.
It's 4:3 zoomed in to make 16:9 with the bottom and top cut off, THEN squeezed back to 4:3 making everyone tall and thin. Shameful how can someone screw up standard def 480i 4:3 video -that's been around since 1941 - and make it look this ugly

You were born too late! A renaissance "Peanut Gallery" member?
Same
Let me note Howdy Doody was the inspiration to create Woody the Cowboy in Toy Story.

Reneé Carter Nice, that’s so awesome too that you have the 40th birthday edition doll!!

I voted for Phineas T. Bluster for mayor of Doodyville. I think Howdy stuffed the ballot box.

+WhazzatKangaroo hi there!
+The John Life giggle
The resemblance to Judy Tyler is stunning.
Glamorous and beautiful and cast the spell of her most men and over all women without exception John Wells sort of
glad I watched this so much as a child
One of my all time favorites
I have noticed that the children in the peanut gallery were captivated by the adult song and dance routines.
Very observant -- it was a long day too!
I still have my Howdy Doody Puppet Doll ♥️
He should've said, "Say kids, or should I say, 'Kids at heart', What Time is it?"
Thanks for hearting my comment

Airs on COZY TV Sundays at 9am CST. Very funny.
When Buff shows Gary Coleman a pic of Chief Thunderthud, it actually is a picture of Bob Keesan as Chief Featherman.
Almost 70 years
First color program for kids in 1955 on NBC
I wish this show was on PBS Kids in the 1990s
I miss Howdy Doody!!
I think NBC needs to bring the show back!
@@jadstudiosofficial ahem... there was the New Howdy Doody Show in the 80s
Where's John Cameron Swayze, He's celebrating 40 years of him on TV in 1989? and also Arturo Toscanini too?

Coming up on 80th anniversary. Howdy Doody could never be popular today. It was way too wholesome. Today it’s either porn humor or watching murders.
THIS ^^^
Hey, what happened to Princess Sumer Fall Winter Spring?
Judy Tyler was killed in a car crash on July 4, 1957, after finishing appearing in "Jailhouse Rock". Elvis was so distraught, he never saw the movie.

What channel was this originally broadcast on? C-Span?
I vaguely remember this was syndicated on primetime on my local station which is now a fox affiliate

Why is the movie slightly zoomed in?

I know that. Even though the aspect ratio is still same as it was back then, it's still slightly zoomed in.
