I bet Ray would dig this ... I do. For me the best part is JL's interpretation of a timeless classic. Tips the hat to Ray in his own style (tasty, uncluttered, finger-style playing, intermingled with really great sections of a cappella singing). wow.
Every once in a while, Joey just blows you away ! Not that he doesn't do it every other time too! The timing, the tuning and the voice inflection, are impeccable.
Alright, i'm going to say it. I much prefer watching this guy play alone on a great cover more than anything on his latest album or the Bros Landreth album. This is insanely good.
Hmmmm that's too bad. This is incredible, but both Whiskey and Hindsight are masterpieces. A lot of Joey's notoriety stems from his guitar prowess and appearances on guitar related shows / channels. But his songwriting is equally incredible, and totally captivating.

Anybody knows any masterclass for this style of rhytm guitar play ? I do play nice chords but all the fills he use are so cool ! Amazing performance by the way ! :)
This is obviously great, but nevertheless I find myself thinking that there's a bit of Lyle Lovett in his singing (which is no bad at all). Anybody else had that impression?
I suspect it is neither an I35 nor an es335 but an I30 instead. The acoustic-like midtones suggest a Collings I30 (laminated body) to my ears and are a beautiful match for his voice. The blacked out name plate on the head stock and lack of identification in the video info may be because of contracts with other guitar makers or the lack of one with Collings. Who knows!
2024 who else
I come back to this video SO freaking much 😂
Hep! I just finished transcribing the whole thing. I couldn't have done that in 2016 :P
Aside from this being so, so, mind-blowlingly great, and i mean just wow. The top on that guitar is incredible too.
Hard to believe there are thumbs down for this. Great playing and singing. Soulful.
Yesssssss! My word, yes! (Hanky waving in the air)! Come on! Bring it!
Hallelujah I just love this so !
Thank to That Pedal Show! A new fan here for sure.
Same here, now y'all need to check out Blake Mills per Joey and TPS, trust me yer brains will blow out.
Found the Landreths via Andertons. Yeah, they rock - sorta hometown folks for me, because they're from Winnipeg.
me too :)
Soooo good, many thanks!!!
He's Been LIstening To His Lyle Lovett
Ha! I just posted the same thing. Lots of lyle, and thank God for that
They're both loosey goosey, but they hit that pocket so hard!
spending all this time on my guitar and then this comes along. I give up.
Geirmund Sjødin lol.
Wow!
Best cover Ive heard of this track.
Ingenious.
Whoa. That's all there is to say.
Tom Ball you damn right! Wow
ABSOLUTELY shouting out Hallelujah after listening to this rendition. One guitar, one voice and one Heavenly song!!
Jesus this is good!
A white Ray, so much talent, damn.
I bet Ray would dig this ... I do. For me the best part is JL's interpretation of a timeless classic. Tips the hat to Ray in his own style (tasty, uncluttered, finger-style playing, intermingled with really great sections of a cappella singing). wow.
This guy is simply amazing...both in song and playing!
Hadn't heard of Joey before, but he's got mad guitar skills and a beautiful voice. Just makes it look effortless.
Amazing. Love this cover. He sings just like Lyle Lovett; I bet he is an influence of his.
So very talented!
oh my God Joey is so good
Every once in a while, Joey just blows you away ! Not that he doesn't do it every other time too!
The timing, the tuning and the voice inflection, are impeccable.
Fantastic Joey!
Somebody tab this shit in his tuning please! Love the low tuning that gives him that walking bass feel with the chords. God DAMN!
Tim Braunfeld he talks about the tuning in a few videos. Drop c with huge strings amazing tone
I finished the tab yesterday :D It's available on my website now. (The tuning is an open-C tuning, CGCEGC, btw)
Alright, i'm going to say it. I much prefer watching this guy play alone on a great cover more than anything on his latest album or the Bros Landreth album.
This is insanely good.
surfing took me here from BL to this --- exploring now --- this is INCREDIBLE!
Hmmmm that's too bad. This is incredible, but both Whiskey and Hindsight are masterpieces. A lot of Joey's notoriety stems from his guitar prowess and appearances on guitar related shows / channels. But his songwriting is equally incredible, and totally captivating.
Absolutely agree. This another level.
world class~~
Ohh! this is one of my favorite Ray Charles tunes. Beautiful! Your guitar sounds amazing tuned like that. I might have to try it out.
been watching for some more of Joey's stuff to get out. this surpasses my expectations, easily. thanks for making this happen!
I could listen to this all day. Dancing in my seat
Whoouuuwww! You`ve gotten it!!!
Faaaaaantastic!!!
Great performance! Joey is really in the zone on this one...and a few others too.
Love this guy’s style & tone.
Brilliant !
this is one of the best things you will ever see..........incredible....... share pronto!.
Crazy good !
Just amazing!
Stunning rendition so inspiring. Gotta have a baritone now!
Simply great . . . !!!
I have *transcribed* the whole guitar part - *tab + sheet music + chords* - which is available on my site now :D
and how do i get a copy of this song .... i love it .. i can rip it, but i want to get a good version and i don"t mind paying for it.
Stunning
amazing performance!
That's so awesome
So good!! I wonder if he's a lyle lovett guy. I here him in his vocals.
Yeah they sound incredibly similar.
Love this version 😍
great version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's finesse, brother.
Sometimes you wonder when some people downvote certain videos it could be that the Good Lord made them from mud and it failed to change to human cells in the brain side of things
Great job. I'd like to add that this song was written by Ray Charles.
I'm more rocker, so I revere Humble Pie's version, but man,...this guy......none better.
God damn, this is fine!
I think I’m on the turn . Breathtakingly talented lad .
Great stuff as always Joey! You guys did a GREAT job at the Jets game last night! Hope you were able to join your dad at his gig! Cheers Bro!
ho, jesus!
excelent!!!!!
that kid will go far .....
well wow
This is friggin Brilliant.. Still in C tuning here?
killer!
Life is the name of the game and I want to play the game with you!
Anybody knows any masterclass for this style of rhytm guitar play ? I do play nice chords but all the fills he use are so cool ! Amazing performance by the way ! :)
Jazz
Yeah, it's Jazz, really. I finished a complete transcription of this if you're curious :) It's up on my website now.
Holy cow
Holy shit.
Smokin
Please help, is anyone here know how to record such a reverb voice and clear guitar sound with "live situation" like this ? Is that just one mic ?
It's just the mic you see in the video.
@@VillageGuitarAmpCoSaskatoon thankyou sir, anyway what mic is it?
It's a blue baby bottle. Nothing special.
guitar tutorial please 🙏
I did a note-for-note tab, which is available on my website, if that's of any help :)
Can someone please tab this out?
I finished the complete tab yesterday :D It's up on my website now.
Pretty sweet stuff. That voice did the trick, and that dance on the fretboard was sly.
Covered up the Collings logo?
Love to learn this arrangement, love the chord voicings and voice leading. Has anyone have the notation ? ta cheers
I just finished notating the entire thing yesterday. You can find it on my website :)
Can someone who knows tell me: how does that microphone pick up his voice, without also picking up the guitar acoustically?
Its picking it all up. One mic for everything in this video
Oh OK, thanks. That's amazing that the levels are so good then.
Thanks.
Uuuuuaaaaauuuuuuu
God this is unreal
This is obviously great, but nevertheless I find myself thinking that there's a bit of Lyle Lovett in his singing (which is no bad at all). Anybody else had that impression?
moreorlesslikeso Well I'd agree with this to a certian extent. The Bros do cover Lyle's "If I Had A Boat" so Joey is certainly aware of him.
If you listen to a lot of his songs you're gonna hear Little Feet/Lowell George easing out. At least that's what I'm hearing.
I hear the Lyle Lovett influence also.
:-) wish I could sing like that
Unquestionably.
is this a modified Gibson ES 339? they dont come with bigsby afaik
I believe it's a Collings. Could be custom shop?
as always, you is correct as seen in this vid:
ruclips.net/video/jX_v7qGhiLc/видео.html
thnx
Hey I'm retired and have nothing better to do then search out mostly arcane information :0)
Yes it's a collings I-35
What scale(s) does joey use?
These are basically blues scales, but he's playing in open C tuning I think.
Cheers. Time to learn it in open c
Joey Wheeler un
Everyone now must burn their guitars after that - and open C? Solid
Handle says Mark Charles but it's Chris from Banff. lol
omg Conor sings and play pretty well v:
4 people suck at life. Seriously, how could you give this a thumbs down? Were you expecting Metallica?
THE MOST KEB' MO' THING I'VE SEEN THAT ISN'T KEB' MO'
This shouldn’t be legal!
What a cat...
almost too good...
Came for the guitar, but stayed for the singing. I don't like the jazz styling of the number at all, but the singing is pretty damned cool.
Wow. Utterly ridiculous. Goddamn.
As if we don't know that that is clearly a Gibson es-335 No reason to cover the Gibson name up on headstock
actually it's not. it's collings.
Yep.
It’s a Collings I-35 LC
I suspect it is neither an I35 nor an es335 but an I30 instead. The acoustic-like midtones suggest a Collings I30 (laminated body) to my ears and are a beautiful match for his voice. @@whimpypatrol5503 It is an I-35. I played that very guitar for about 6 months a few years ago when he lent it to me.
