    Does SHALL have the meaning of MUST?
    I sometimes find SHALL in the legal documents like contracts from American companies and SHALL always confuse me if they mean “You must do this with no other choice.” or “You can do this if you want.”

    Hi!... This is the first time I watch one of your videos, I think they are very useful to improve our knowledge in English. I have a doubt about "won't" in a interrogative statement, so acording to your example I can only use won't in contraction and not without it? (will not)... Or how would it be correct? Thanks in advanced. Greetings from Ecuador

    • @saiyanrace4030
      @saiyanrace4030 2 года назад +1

      I think that's like the other contractions, you can use the contraction in the interrogative statement or without it. Examples:
      - Don't you...?
      - Do you not....?
      - Won't you...?
      - Will you not....?
      Without the contraction is more formal or polite.

    3.will you have a cup of tea ?
    Exp. shall
    1.shall I open the door ?

  • @sergeymaltzeff2481
    @sergeymaltzeff2481 4 года назад +4

    The question seems clear. With the pronouns I and we, it is really necessary to say will for a long time and you can forget about shall . However, the problem keeps popping up. Some domestic textbooks still write that in the future tense after I and we , strictly shall be used . British textbooks say that only will is used , either it is possible this way and that, or that will is used , but, alternatively, we can say shall , although it is used much less often than will . Everything has become much clearer to you, right?

      You are correct. Especially in the U.S., it is not used much, and as Alisha said, it's used more for things we'd like to do now, like "Shall we go?" but even then it's not used by everyone that way. I rarely if ever hear young people and men say this.
