    You mention that he voted against gay marriage. That's not even the worst part. His DAD is gay. He voted against the right for his own father to get married.

    • @mikearchibald744

      Can you be more specific? Because gay marriage came to Canada via a Supreme Court of Canada ruling. It wasn't legislated.

      @@mikearchibald744 in 2006 conservative introduced a motion to, "restore the traditional definition of marriage" but their motion was defeated with all other major parties, including Liberal, NDP, and Bloc voting against the conservative motion.
      The conservative had a minority government at the time, so they needed the support of at least one other party to pass this motion. This highlights the importance of making sure conservative do not get a majority government if you're someone who's concerned about these rights.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 Месяц назад +3

      @@thyruos6499 Uh, no, i certainly am all for gay marriage, but the supreme court had already legalized it. NO government can take that away.
      You'll remember they had a MAJORITY after that. The reason why they did it as a minority was pure politics for their members who likely had no idea.
      Its the same reason Pollievre said that 'only girls should use girls bathrooms'. It was to appease his base. The fact is the Supreme court has already ruled that if you identify as a trans woman, you use a womans bathroom if you want.
      And even those cases of pronouns in schools are in education and so have zero to do with Pollievre.
      Thats not to say I don't worry about rights with the conservatives. But not nearly as much as some because the fact is the liberals are no great saviours of the constitution. Even in the case of British Columbia and drug legalization all he can say is what they SHOULD do. Fact is that when cannabis was legalized, groups went to Trudeau to decrminalize other drugs and Trudeau said 'not going to happen'. But the federal government now has limited power over the matter thanks to the courts.
      Pollievres job is clearly to do as much to aide the oil industry as possible. The GOOD side of that is that I tell his followers to be prepared to be disappointed. I mean, where the hell is he going to get funding for nuclear research if there is no carbon tax?
      Anyway, the one thing I do fear is that guns will be an awful lot easier to get. The guy is clearly in the pocket of the NRA.

    • @thyruos6499
      @thyruos6499 Месяц назад +7

      @@mikearchibald744 yes, the increase in gun violence is definitely a concern for me too. I hope we never see the same type of school shootings as they have in the US.
      On to the issue of same sex marriage, the Supreme Court said that the federal government had no say in provinces choosing to legalize civil unions, which have all the same legal protection as marriages. The only difference between marriage and civil union is that marriage is under federal jurisdiction and must be recognized nation-wide when legislation is enacted, while civil unions are provincial.
      The federal government can limit the definition of marriage at any time at the federal level, as conservatives wanted to do after Paul Martin's government legislated marriage as a right at the federal level, they just can't stop Provinces from legislating on civil unions.
      Stephen Harper knew this was unpopular among swing voters so he promised not to revisit the issue even if he were to win the majority in the next election to make his party more appealing to those voters, which is why they didn't make another motion.
      If the federal government changes the definition of marriage, and your province doesn't have civil unions, you would have to get married in another province.

    When PP was Housing Minister in the 2015 Harper gov't, he only even SAID the word "housing" ONCE in the House of Commons. Under his watch, the gov't built ZERO new apartments, ZERO new housing co-op's, and built only SIX affordable housing units in all of Canada. He cut 97% off the federal affordable housing initiative to reduce it from $452 million to just $16 million, and as a result, the Canadian private sector built fewer new homes than any year under Trudeau. Now he plans to repeat history and make those cuts again to the Liberal's affordable housing initiative from $6 Billion to just $100 Million. He told reporters that "Gov't should get out of the home building business and sell all federal buildings and land to developers." He plans to create a complaints dept for residents if someone tries to build affordable housing in their neighbourhood. He plans to reinstate GST on new apartments. He has NO PLAN to help students, seniors, workers, the most vulnerable, or anyone else own their home. Instead he belittles the starter homes of hard working Canadians as "tiny little shacks." Pierre doesn't care about people. Pierre doesn't care about communities. Pierre doesn't care about affordable homes. Pierre only cares about Prime Minster Pierre, and he'll SAY anything to make that happen. Just don't expect him to say "housing" if it ever comes true, because Pierre doesn't care.

Until we start changing the system, with cooperation from our communities, we are not going to see much improvement - but we also can learn not to make things worse by voting regressive Conservatives.
      Prescription for positive change proposal:
