Yes, in 28 states it's technically legal for a judge to not be a bar certified lawyer however in all 28 states those judges are only allowed to hear misdemeanor cases and all 28 states also have laws that if you are sentenced to jail for a misdemeanor by a non bar certified judge then you instantly get a new trial with a judge that is a bar certified attorney. These non lawyer judges in those 28 states are most typically known as a Justice of the Peace and no state has allowed one to actually preside over a criminal trial in over 30 years. ( The last state to do so was Montana in 1992 where a judge sentenced a woman to 5 days in jail for a misdemeanor DUI ). The judge’s use of coarse language was entirely appropriate. If you’re trying to make someone understand what you are saying, the best course of action is to use a vernacular that they will have no trouble deciphering. The defendant THINKS he knows all the best words, and does his best to SOUND like he knows what he’s talking about, but as usual, his stunning case of Dunning/Kruger is so severe as to completely blind him to reality. The judge wholly understands his audience in this case, and did his best to communicate with him in a language he can easily understand. Defendant Dipshit is utterly clueless, no doubt fantasizing about how much money his frivolous appeal/lawsuit is going to bring him. One hopes he will have an epiphany and realize just how wrong he is, but I think that hope is misplaced.

One other thing I'd like to see is, when someone is asked a basic question and they say "I don't understand," they should be declared incompetent to represent themselves. If they lack basic understanding of the law, the facts, or general logic and language, they shouldn't be allowed to stand in court.
