11:52 Bill Barilko wins the Stanley Cup for the Toronto Maple Leafs in OT in 1951.
This is significant because that summer, Barilko would die in a plane crash whilst on a fishing trip in Northern Ontario.
The Leafs wouldn't win the Cup again until 1962, the year the plane wreckage was discovered.
It's immortalized in a song by The Tragically Hip called "50 Mission Cap". It contains the lyric:
      Bill Barilko disappeared that summer
The last goal he ever scored won the Leafs the Cup
They wouldn't win another til 1962
      The year he was discovered.

That "old-timey" goal by Barilko was his last goal before he disappeared in a plane crash in 1951. It won the Stanley Cup for the Leafs...who didn't win another Cup until his body was discovered 11 years later.
The Tragically Hip song "50 Mission Cap" tells the story of the Barilko curse.

The Legend of Bill Barilko and The Toronto Maple Leafs:
Bill Barilko scored the overtime winning goal for the TML in 1951 to win Lord Stanley's Trophy. That summer while on a fishing trip he disappeared in thr Canadian wilderness. The Leafs (in an era where there were only 6 teams in the league dominated by Montreal and Toronto) didn't win the Stanley Cup again until 1962, the same year Bill Barilko's body was discovered.
The story became legend within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and fan base and would later become immortalized in Canadian culture when THE Canadian Rock group The Tragically Hip wrote a song which incorporated the story from the back of a hockey card in their song 50 Mission Cap.

"5th overtime" In the regular season, there's a 5 minute OT period then shoot-outs. In the play-offs, overtime is played in regular 20 minutes periods with sudden death rule: first to score wins. The goal in the 5th overtime [period] means they played more than 2 games worth of play-offs hockey that night.

The best thing is listening to an interview with Bobby Orr he doesn't understand the excitement about the "dive". He even says he didn't dive, he just lost his balance and couldn't bring his back foot down. If you watch the video of that goal you will see his back foot being held up by the stick of another player. No dive, just a fall. But I guess that doesn't make good history.

    "Raining rats"
Story goes a Florida Panthers player found a rat in the dressing room and killed it with his stick before a game. He went on to score a hat trick (3 goals) with that stick. Throwing rubber rats on the ice became a good luck tradition for that team. It became so popular that the league had to step in and stop it as it was delaying the game, when thousands of rubber rats would hit the ice every time the Panthers scored.

The Matteau goal for the Rangers was a miracle goal for the miracle year, the Rangers had not won a cup since 1940 and it was thought they were cursed. Every year if they were even lucky enough to make it to the playoffs, they were blown out. Finally in 1994 they had a shot, they were slowly getting to the top until they reached the semis. They were playing the New Jersey Devils and made it to game 7, Rangers captain, Mark Messier promised New Yorkers and Rangers fans across the country that... "We will win tonight" That quote was in big letters on the front page of every newspaper in New York. That night it was a tie game and was now in overtime, Stephan Matteau was a recently acquired Rangers trade and was traded for a well loved and very skilled player, so naturally Matteau had to earn his respect. That night in the locker room he was alone with Ed Olczyk before they took the ice for OT, Matteau told Eddie that he was gonna win this game and for good luck Eddie kissed the blade of his stick, then only moments later Matteau scored, bringing the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 1940 and they would go on to win the Stanley cup.

San Jose Sharks: This was another overtime game 7 goal and it propelled the Sharks to the 1995 Western Conference Semifinals.

This goal not only gave him the win that night, but also clinched the Pacific Division title, one of the few expansion teams to ever clinch the division title in their inaugural season.
Washington Capitals: I think you already know about this one. Although, I think of Evgeny Kuznetsov goal against the Penguins in Game 6 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Semifinals or the Devante Smith-Pelly goal against Vegas in game 5 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals should have been there.

But also, pucks weren’t really raised off the ice too often until Stan Mikita/Bobby Hull started curving sticks for the Blackhawks. The goalies were crazier, games were routinely delayed for the goalie to get stitched up and to return as teams only had 1 goalie.

They ended up down 2-0 and the season and cup run was about to be over then in the 3rd period Messier scores a hat trick and the Rangers brought the series back to New York. One reason for it being the teams most memorable goal was the radio call by Howie Rose, one of the best calls ever. After the goal there was this huge amount of tension that was released by the team and fans. I could add more but, getting to long.

Sabres fan here. The "Mayday" goal was scored by Brad May, who was not a scorer...he was a fighter. An "enforcer" if you will. He beat one of the Boston Defenders that is considered to be one of the best Defenders of all time. Also, I have said on other videos of yours, if you love commentary, listen to the best of Rick Jeanneret, the Buffalo Sabres announcer. He is amazing. Also, bonus explanation, the Dallas Stars most famous goal is INFAMOUS in Buffalo, because at that time, the player who scored could not have his foot in the crease...Brett Hull clearly did, and they let the goal count. And I know some Dallas fan will come in saying, "tHeY cHanGeD ThE rUlE mId-SeaSon." Knock it off...no one knew that at the time. The goal should have never counted, and the game should have continued. Call me a salty Sabres fan all you want, I dont care. No Goal. Anyway, love your Vids Adam!

    Some Cultural ones first:
11:54 Bill Barilko scores in OT to win the 5th Cup in a row for Toronto in 1951. This is the only series in NHL history in which every game went into overtime. Barilko would die in a plane crash that summer, starting the "Curse of Bill Barilko". Toronto would not win the Cup again until 1962, when Barilko's body was found. The Tragically Hip song "50 Mission Cap" tells the story.
4:04 Bobby Orr's Cup winning goal in 1971, one of the most famous goals in NHL history.
5:15 Patrick Kane ends the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup 40+ year drought in 2010.
6:06 Brett Hull's Cup winning goal from 1999, one of the most controversial goals in NHL history.
9:34 Matteau sends the Rangers to the Cup Final in 1994, where the Rangers would end their 54 year Cup drought.
12:30 A flashy goal for a flashy city as the Vegas Golden Knights begin their magical year.
10:22 Keith Primeau's goal ends the third longest game in NHL history (the longest game in the last 70 or so years).
2:38 Paul Kariya's GWG in Game 6 of the 2002 Stanley Cup sending the series to Game 7.
3:32 Ray Whitney's buzzer beater advances Phoenix Coyotes to the Second Round.
4:17 Brad May shows he can use his hands for something other than punching on his "May Day" goal, completing the sweep of the Bruins.
4:35 Theo Fleury helps eliminate the Oilers in the Battle of Alberta.
5:01 Scott Walker scores as the Canes upset the Bruins and go to the 2009 Eastern Conference Final.
5:32 Uwe Krupp scores the Cup winning goal in Triple OT in 1996.
5:47 Rick Nash corrects his mistake against the Coyotes with this spectacular goal. The shift prior he made a mistake that lead to a goal tying the game late in the 3rd Period.
6:29 Steve Yzerman strips Gretzky of the puck and eliminates the Blues in a hard fought seven-game series in 1996.
6:50 Of course and Oiler's goal is going to be scored by the Great One, he scored nearly 500 or so for them.
7:07 First goal score by the Panthers in Game 3 of the 1996 Stanley Cup Final. Google "Scott Melanby rat trick" if you want to know why they are throwing plastic rats on the ice.
7:33 Alec Martinez's Cup winning goal from 2014.
8:02 Brunette completes the 3-1 series comeback for Minnesota in 2004, also the last goal that Patrick Roy allowed in his career.
8:30 Guy LaFleur makes Boston pay for a costly Too-many men penalty.
8:50 Jason Arnott's Cup winning goal for New Jersey in the 2000 Stanley Cup Final.
9:18 Nystrom's Cup winning goal for the Islanders in 1980, the start of 4 straight Cups.
9:34 Matteau sends the Rangers to the Cup Final in 1994, where the Rangers would end their 54 year Cup drought.
9:52 Ottawa upsets Buffalo to advance to the Cup Final in 2007.
10:38 Mario Lemieux's statue goal in the 1991 Stanley Cup Final.
10:57 San Jose upsets Calgary in the first round in 1995.
11:29 St. Louis upsets Chicago with a first round sweep in 1993.

It would turn out to be Barilko's last goal, as during that summer, he disappeared in a plane crash on his way back from a fishing trip. It would take until 1962 for the Leafs to win another Cup, which happened to be around the time the remains of the wreckage were discovered in the northern Ontario wilderness.

Most of these are playoff overtime goals, many of them won series allowing the team to advance to the next round. The Bobby Orr (Boston), Patrick Kane (Chicago), Uwe Krupp (Colorado), Brett Hull (Dallas), Alec Martinez (Los Angeles), Jason Arnott (New Jersey), John Tonelli (New York Islanders), Bill Barillko (Toronto) goals all won the Stanley Cup in overtime.
In terms of the 5th overtime, in the playoffs teams play overtime until someone scores, there are no ties. For that particular goal, it was the longest game in about 40 years.

Philadelphia’s goal was in the 5th period of overtime because in the playoff there are unlimited number of overtime periods (each lasting 20min)
Montreal’s Guy Lafleur’s slapshot was devastating for his era (mainly 1970’s)

Adam, im sure someone already answered but, in the nhl, and some other leagues, during the playoffs if the game is tied at the end of regulation (3rd period) then the game will continue with overtime periods until someone scores to win. Usually its in the 1st or 2nd overtime period but ive seen them go 3+. I live in a city with a minor league team of the detroit red wings (nhl team) and a couple of years ago during their playoffs my hometown team lost games 1, 2 and 3 of the best of 7 playoff series. Came back to win games 4, 5 and 6 to force a game 7 at home. I went, it was packed/sold out and the game was 0-0 until the 3rd overtime when we lost. It was a heartbreaker.

Theo Fleury who scored the goal for Calgary against Edmonton at the 4:36 minute mark of the video did that in the 1991 Stanley Cup playoffs. He was also Metis and played one season with the Belfast Giants. He was small but awesome. Scott Stevens, who I liked along with Denis Poitvin also a D, was a tough nut who liked to hunt bears with a bow & arrow. Denis Poitvin used to like looking for fights, off the ice as well as on. The Bobby Orr goal is the most memorable goal in NHL history in my opinion, it's been immortalized everywhere... Bobby Orr was an excellent player, above everyone else -- the McDavid of his day, and everyone in the league knew it, so he was a target for that reason. His knees gave out, he didn't play many years in the league, and this was the goal that won the Bruins their first Stanley Cup since 1941. That goal was the winner. It's simply referred to by Bruins fans as "The Goal".
The Chicago goal was also a stanley cup winner, and the guy who scored it was the only one who knew it was in the net, because he had the angle to see it trapped in the net hidden, which is why if you watch the whole clip, everyone is confused, while the goal scorer is celebrating.
The skate in the crease was Brett Hull, the rule in that year was if any part of your skate was in the crease and you scored, the goal would be disallowed. This was a triple overtime goal, that won the stanley cup.
The Islanders goal was the first stanley cup they won at the start of their dynasty in the early 80s. They won the cup a few times in a row.
The concept of overtime in the playoffs are 20 minute periods, where the first goal wins. If no goal is scored in an overtime period, they'll play another, and another, and another until someone does score. That Philadelphia game was the longest (iirc) playoff game in NHL history.
The Bob Barilko cup winning goal goal was in the 40s (edit: The actual goal was in the 50s, but my comment about 40s was meant to say he played for them in the 40s). Back then, helmets weren't required equipment -- sticks were flat, and it was far more difficult to elevate pucks up to the head area of another player. When helmets became required kit for players, it was grandfathered in so players who started when it wasn't required, were not required to wear one. This is why you see Guy Lafleur without a helmet and he continued to play after the rule came in. Likewise, in the 00s a rule was put in place where a visor was required, also grandfathered in, which is why you see some players today still playing who don't have shields. Grandfathered.

The older masks (70's & before) impaired the goalies vision more - the modern ones are pretty optimized for protect and serve the eyesight. The key change was to go for the grid masks to maximize vision without endangering the face (too much). Some grid shapes allow the puck to squeeze into the eye socket - which is not good of course. But even in those cases there's just one possible angle it can come in. I actually don't know if any masks now used are 100% sure. Another thing people sometimes don't think is the neck also needs protection, so they developed pieces that dangle below the chin, now I think they just have the chin piece reaching very low, and a type of collar has also been used - lying on the ice it's not nice to get a skate slicing a wound.

-Anaheim : Karyia gets destroyed, comes back and scores. He doesn't remember this game of the Stanley cup final. (2003)
-Arizona : They won game one of the Western conference semi-final with this overtime goal. They were a big underdog team and they went on to the Western Conference final that year. They don't have a big playoff history. (2012)
-Boston : Bobby orr ''Flying goal''. They won the Stanley cup with that overtime goal. (1970)
-Buffalo : Coming into the playoffs, Buffalo had lost their last 7 games and their opponents, Boston, had won their last 8 games. Buffalo won that series 4-0 and the ''May day'' goal was the winning one in overtime in a comeback game where they were losing 5-2 at some point. (1993)
-Calgary : Theo Fleury scores in overtime and forces a game 7 against their Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Oilers (1991)
-Carolina : Scott Walker sends the Hurricanes in the Eastern conference final in overtime in game 7 against the Boston, the team that finished 1st in the conference. (2009)
-Chicago : Patrick Kane scores the overtime winner in game 6 to give the Blackhawks their first Stanley cup since 1961. (2010)

-Montréal : Montreal vs. Boston is the biggest rivalry in the NHL. I don't really know why this one in particular, but every playoff goal against each others is memorable.
-New Jersey : They won the Stanley cup with that overtime goal (2000)
-New York Islanders : They won their first Stanley cup of four in a row with that overtime goal (1980)
-New York Rangers : Matteau scores his second overtime winner of the Eastern Conference final. This one was in game 7 and sent the Rangers to the Stanley cup final. They won their first Stanley cup since 1940 (1994)
-Ottawa : Daniel Alfredsson scores the overtime winner that sends the Ottawa Senators to their first Stanley Cup final. They lost to the Anaheim Ducks (2007)
-Philadelphia : It's pronounced ''Primo'' and yes it was the 5th overtime. In the playoffs, the game is not over until a team scores. That means it was in the 8th period of the game. (2000)
-Pittsburgh : Simply an amazing goal by Super Mario in the Stanley cup final (1991)
-San Jose : They finished 7th and Calgary finished 2nd that year. That goal in game 7 sent San Jose to the second round of the playoffs (1995)
-Saint Louis : It's not their most memorable goal anymore. Go check Pat Maroon overtime goal vs Dallas if you want to see it. (2019)
-Toronto : They won the Stanley cup in overtime with that Bill Barilko goal (1951)
-Vegas : It is a really, really young franchise from the 2017 expansion draft. This goal is a really nice one from William Karlsson in the regular season. (2018)

The context you need for the Gretzky goal is that it was in overtime of what would be the final game in the playoff series between Edmonton and Calgary (who genuinely hate each other more than any rivalry in the league), and Oiler star Mark Messier was called for a penalty (you can see him standing up to watch Gretzky in the highlight) and shorthanded, Gretzky slams it right in that tiny space that exists between your fist and your shoulder because the muscle on your arm prevents your elbow from bending any further. Edmonton would go on to win the cup with what are still the NHL record fewest losses in a Stanley cup campaign (16 wins, including sweeping Calgary there 4-0, and only 2 losses.)
Messier later said he had the best view in the house.

@Adam, 5th Overtime is short hand for 5th period of Overtime. In the NHL playoffs a game that ends in a tie in regulation, goes into continuous periods of sudden death overtime until someone scores for the win. 5th overtime means that game went into the 8th period counting the 3 periods of regulation time, in other words, it was a FREAKING LONG GAME! Probably started around 7pm and ended well after midnight.

I'm a goalie. Yes... the wrong cage CAN impact line of sight in a negative way. Youth and college/university goalies are only allowed to wear what is called "straight bar" cages (for safety reasons as the butt end of a stick can't fit through the cage). As the name implies, the bars on the cage are straight. Pro and "beer league" goalies are allowed to play with what is called a "cat's eye" cage. Having played with both, I can say that in the throngs of battle, a goalie will get used to a straight bar cage if they are not allowed to wear a cat's eye... but the cat's eye design most certainly offers up a better line of sight.

It's true but they've changed the design of the nets and the goalies crease size countless times. 1880's to now, it's much different. Plus the size of players and their equipment also helps make nets look smaller.
Also the way they play, back in the 1800 to late 1990's they were playing "stand up" goalie, they rarely went down. Didn't go in butterfly often, the older clips theyre standing way out of the crease so that also makes the net look bigger since they aren't even near it

Personally, me playing as a goalie, the cage does not affect eye sight. It does really bother you at first when you’re just learning to play goalie, but after that you just get used to the layout of the cage and you don’t even notice it anymore. Much like anything else your eyes are used to seeing, it’ll adjust to the view. Some goalie helmet cages even have what’s called “Cats Eyes”, basically two ovular designs in the metal around the location of your eyes so that there isn’t any cage in your way when looking straight ahead. This however is a bit more dangerous because pucks and skates at the correct angle and speed can sneak into the holes and hit your eye. For this reason, you hear of a lot of these cages being on recall for safety issues. That’s why I personally never used cats eyes lmao.

In the playoffs, they play overtime until someone scores. When Primeux went bar down in the 5th overtime period they essentially at that time had played almost 3 FULL hockey games, 8 full 20 minute periods. Almost 8 hours on T.V. I was up until 2:35am watching that hockey game that started around 7pm the night before. There were literally fans sleeping in the arena it was so long, all of the players were exhausted but they tied the series for a berth in the eastern conference finals. To top it all off they were down 2-0 in the best of 7 series and this game was to tie the series 2-2 and take all the momentum. They ended up losing to Scott Stevens in the East Finals 4-3.

The Toronto Maple Leafs goal was scored by Bill Barilko in overtime to win the Stanley Cup. A few months later he disappeared on a fishing trip in Northern Ontario. The Leafs would not win another cup until 1962, 11 years later. The same year his remains were discovered. There's a song about it by The Tragically Hip, it's called Fifty Mission Cap.

In the many years of the league, the divisions and conferences have gone through many name changes. I'm just going to use Eastern and Western for simplicity.
Anaheim - This was during the Stanley Cup Final. After the big hit on Paul Kariya, many didn't think he'd return to the game. He came back only 4 1/2 minutes later in the game. He scored a goal that same game. This would be his penultimate game with the Ducks leaving the team with a franchise high 300 goals, 369 assists, and 669 points.
Arizona - Overtime game winner during the 2012 Western Conference Semi Final in Game 1. It marks the first time they won a game in the second round of the playoffs.
Boston - From the 1970 Stanley Cup Final, nicknamed "The Flight". It marks the Bruin's first Stanley Cup in 29 years. The name is given because of Orr being in the air as the goal is scored (he was tripped at the same time)
Buffalo - Brad May scores the game winning goal to sweep the Bruins in the first round of the 1993 playoffs marking the first time the Sabres won a series in 10 years. It was also a huge upset as the Bruins were the #1 seed in the East.
Calgary - Overtime winner in game 6 of the 1991 playoffs. Fleury's first of the series. This was more known for Theoren Fleury sliding down the ice after the goal.
Carolina - Overtime series winner by Scott Walker to send the Hurricanes to the 2009 Eastern Conference Final. A big upset with the Bruins being the #1 seed and the Hurricanes #6.
Chicago - The Blackhawk's first Stanley Cup since 1961 (49 years). There was confusion at the time because the puck went through the net.
Colorado - Overtime winner for the Avalanche's first Stanley Cup in their very first year in the league (They were moved from Quebec)
Columbus - Pure skill from Rick Nash
Dallas - A controversial overtime goal to give the Stars their first Stanley Cup. The NHL put out a clarification of the crease rule after this.
Detroit - 1996 playoffs. Steve Yzerman steals the puck from Wayne Gretzky and scores to win the series in the Western Conference Semi Finals.
Edmonton - Gretzky. Need I say more?
Florida - The story is a rat was running around in the locker room. Scott Mellanby killed the rat and scored 2 goals that same night. When this story went public, fans threw rubber rats on the ice in celebration of a goal.
Los Angeles - Alec Martinez scores the overtime winner to win the Stanley Cup for the Kings. 2012 season.
Minnesota - Andrew Brunette scores the overtime winner to clinch the series in the 2003 Western Conference Quarterfinal. The goalie he scored on, Patrick Roy, would end up retiring after this game.
Montreal - Game 7 of the 1979 Eastern Conference Final. Lafleur scores a late goal to tie the game, which eventually the Canadiens won in overtime. They won the Cup the same year.
New Jersey - Jason Arnott scores the game winner in overtime for the Devil's second Stanley Cup. 2000 season.
New York Islanders - 1980 Stanley Cup Final. Overtime winner. They were called the Dynasty because they won another 3 Stanley Cups in a row after this.
New York Rangers - 1994 Eastern Conference Final. Overtime winner by Stephane Matteau in game 7. The Rangers won the Cup that year.
Ottawa - 2007 Eastern Conference Final. Overtime winner by Daniel Alfredsson to send the Senators to their first Stanley Cup Final.
Philadelphia - Game 4 of the 2000 Eastern Conference Semi Final. Keith Primeau finally scores the game winner in quintuple overtime, the 3rd longest playoff game ever. Remember in the playoffs, they keep playing until someone scores.
Pittsburgh - 1991 Stanley Cup Final. Mario Lemieux takes it all by himself to score in game 2.
San Jose - 1995 Western Conference Quarter Final. Ray Whitney scores the game winner in double overtime to eliminate the #2 seeded Flames.
St. Louis - 1993 Western Conference Quarter Final. Craig Janney scores the overtime winner. The goaltender, Ed Belfour, disputed the call saying he was interfered with. He was outside of the crease, so the refs ruled the collision incidental contact, which by the rules means the goal is legal. The goal stood, and Belfour went on a rampage in the locker room breaking a hot tub, coffee maker, and a television.
Tampa Bay (not shown) - Martin St. Louis scores the game winner in game 6 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Final to bring the series back to Tampa Bay. Lightning won the Cup.
Toronto - 1951 Stanley Cup Final. Game winner in overtime by Bill Barilko to win the Stanley Cup. Sadly, this would be his last game as Barilko disappeared that same year in a plane crash that was not discovered until 1962.
Vancouver (not shown) - 1994 Western Conference Quarterfinal. Pavel Bure scores in double overtime to advance.
Vegas - Fancy work by William Karlsson. During a regular season game in the Golden Knight's first year in the league.
Washington - Ovechkin scores laying down on the ice.
Winnipeg (not shown) - Teemu Selanne breaks the record for most goals by a rookie with 76 goals. He scored this goal one handed (his 64th at the time).

Old time hockey players never wore helmets. The NHL has been around since 1916-17 if I’m not mistaken. These guys never had the innovation players do today. They never wore helmets. All equipment was heavy leather, including the gloves. No padding. No Kevlar. Heavy wooden sticks with no curve, flat blade. Skates were literally just a thin piece of metal tied onto a boot. Jerseys were pretty much just a wool sweater. You can google all of this to verify and look at what they wore, it’s very interesting. It’s crazy how much the game has grown throughout the last 100+ years

In case no one has chimed in, Bill Barilko scored the Stanley Cup winning goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1951. He died in a plane crash that happened weeks after this game. The wreckage of said plane crash wasn’t found until 1962. The Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t win the Stanley Cup again until 1962. They also won 4 of the next 5 Stanley Cup’s

You wanted backstory to the goals? Here's each and every one.
Anaheim Ducks- Legendary goal. Karyia gets KTFOed by a filthy hit, about 10 minutes of real time and a couple minutes of game rips this laser beam to send them to Game 7. Anaheim was a Cinderella team facing elimination and were backstopped through a Herculean effort by 1st year starter J.S. Giguere (who is one of only 5 players ever from the loosing team [all MVP's to date have been from one of the 2 Finalists] to be named the most valuable player).
Arizona Coyotes- Not really many goals to choose from. This year was the best in team history, defeating the defending champions in the first round, and beating Nashville in the 2nd round to go to their first Conference Finals ever. This was overtime in Game 2 of the Nashville series.
Boston Bruins- Possibly the most iconic goal in hockey history. First championship for Boston in 30 years, first year of expansion and an exploding audience. Aided by the fact the seat was vacated by a rival newspaper photographer bolting to get a beer, Ray Lussier sat down after running to the other side of the rink and less than a minute after he sat down, snapped the most famous picture in hockey history of Orr flying through the air after scoring the Cup winner and getting pitchforked by future teammate Noel Picard.
Buffalo Sabres- Again, not many to choose from. This was the culmination of a massive upset when the lowly Sabres swept the juggernaut Bruins in the 1993 opening round, and it's probably beloved announcer Rick Jeannert's most famous call.
Calgary Flames- Bitter Battle of Alberta series that happened in the playoffs that saved the Flames from elimination and sent it to Game 7 in the 1991 playoffs.
Carolina Hurricanes- This was overtime of Game 7 that sent the Hurricanes to the Conference Finals in a pretty big upset.
Chicago Blackhawks- Patrick Kane scored in overtime of Game 6 to win Chicago their first Stanley Cup in almost 50 years, and Chicago's first major championship in 25 years.
Colorado Avalanche- This was overtime of Game 4 that won the state of Colorado their first ever sports championship, which occurred in the Avs first season of existence in 1996.
Columbus Blue Jackets- Not many to choose from. Now it would probably be Seth Jones in Game 1 of last years playoffs. Columbus had never won a series before and went down 3-0 to one of the best teams hockey had ever seen minutes into the first period. They'd climb back to score the 4th goal with 5 minutes to go, and would never trail again in the series scoring the biggest upset in NHL history and sweeping the Tampa Bay Lighting. This goal won Goal of the Year and was nominated for one of the sports plays of the year. Rick Nash had taken a stupid penalty and allowed the Coyotes to go ahead. Moments after getting out of the box in the waning moments of the game, he received a pass and pulled this off to tie it.
Dallas Stars. I'll say it now. Good goal. This ridiculous and short lived rule of not being able to have your skate in the crease was changed shortly before the playoffs began because players were having goals like empty netters disallowed. Buffalo still acts like it somewhow got screwed out of their city's only championship. Also one of the most legendary goals ever. Brett Hull had blown his knee out the game before, but told his coach he was there if he needed him. In the 3rd overtime, Coach Hitchcock called upon Hull to give him a shift, and Hull gave him possibly the greatest shift in hockey history. Got onto the ice, intercepted a pass, picked a Sabres pocket, out hustled a defender, won a board battle and then scored all in the span of 30 seconds.
Detroit Red Wings- This was Game 7 of the 2nd round, and the city of Detroit was basically all but fed of with Yzerman saying that he wasn't a real captain who could lead the team and get over the final hump to win their first championship in decades. This was the the moment that cemented him as a Detroit legend and one of the most iconic sports captains ever. This sent them to the Conference Finals were they lost in a dogfight to the eventual champion Avs, but he would lead them to 2 straight Championships (the 2nd occurring after the infamous limo crash that ended a key players career) the following 2 years and another in 2002. Also another Boston scenario where the main cameraman went to the bathroom, leaving an assistant with a handheld camera to catch one of the best filmed goals in history straight down the barrel.
Edmonton Oilers- Another Battle of Alberta game, when Wayne Gretzy's blasted one of the filthiest slapshots ever seen past Mike Vernon in Game 2's overtime. Then go on top sweet the Flames, and win their 2nd straight title, one of 6 in 8 seasons.
Florida Panthers- Part of their Cinderella run to the 1996 Finals. They were just 3 seasons removed from entering the league and came out of nowhere to get to the Finals. On opening day, a rat ran through the home locker room and Scott Mellanby one timed it dead and then scored 2 goals causing goalie John

"5th overtime" is just what it sounds like, they played 3 20min periods and then 5 MORE 20min periods before the winning goal. Back when hockey was hockey a Basketball didn't control how hockey was played games would go on until there was a winner.
I remember a series in the 80's where Calgary and Edmonton played 7 games and each game had 4-6 Overtimes every single game. They were so burnt out after the series finished the winning team lost the next series in 4 straight games.

The black and white Leafs goal was from 1951. its famous because Bill Barilko who scored that Stanley cup winning goal disappeared on a flight to go fishing in the summer after winning... despite search parties for ages the plane was not found... it was the last cup the Leafs won for 11 years... until they won it again in 1962 and it happened to be within about 2 months of them finally finding his plane and body 11 years later. So it was deemed the curse of Bill Barilko, last goal he ever scored.

The Patrick Kane goal is because it was the game winner in OverTime in the Stanley Cup Final and made the Blackhawks win the Stanley cup first time in 49 years and nobody knew the puck was in accept for Patrick Kane and that’s why he was running around crazy and his teammates were confused because they didn’t know it was a goal
