I really wish they'd used this track in the Reignited Trilogy, I've always thought of this as the "real" High Caves theme since the NTSC one is just a Tree Tops remix.
actually no... ntsc game was released first, then months later we had pal and jp version. Probably Stewart made this track in the meantime and changed it to sound more "original" than the tree tops alternate version.
@@DrShemp I don't really get what point you're trying to make, my point is that this is a 100% unique track and it should obviously be considered *the* High Caves song rather than the unremarkable Tree Tops remix you unfortunately got in the original NTSC release.
Funny story, I was going to sleep last night. I shut my eyes and was just about to go to sleep when..... I randomly, out of nowhere, started humming this! I have NO clue why, and after I realized I was humming it, I couldn't stop. But it did make me fall asleep!
I actually do this sometimes when I can't sleep. I've done it since I was a little kid! I pick a Spyro or Ratchet game, and try to hum to the entire soundtrack to myself. Most of the time I fall asleep halfway through, it's amazing. Sometimes I do it when I'm absolutely bored too. It does keep me entertained for quite a while.
Yeah try it yourself one point, just start the level, die and when the screen loads, BEFORE the music has a chance to load, pause buffer 4-5 times, It happens a lot to me. And you can hear all sorts too. Lofty Castle happens a lot too. Heck, Jacques if you do the trick you can play the TITLE THEME. How kick ass is that? Just keep trying til you get it to play. Even if it's only playing half of it at times. Mostly you'll hear a combination of "Lofty Castle, Alpine Ridge, Dark Hollow" All three in one. One after another. At times you'll also hear "Sunny Flight". Let me know if you nail it. New update. If you get LOFTY CASTLE to play FIRST. Leave it and let ALL the others play. And you WILL hear a different version of High Caves. It's un-used song ALMOST similar to this one. Definitely close to it. High Caves also plays the unused remix of Wizard Peak. Seems High Caves is prone to glitchy music.
I only realized a short while ago that this was replaced with a different soundtrack in the NTSC version. I wonder why they do that in Spyro games. I prefer this version of High caves. Love Stewart's work.
Insomniac is an American company, so it was released here first, then they changed the music for PAL and Japan. I don't know why personally, but yeah I like this one quite a bit
lts probably to make them sound really different. Like how all the Speedways in 3 are changed to have the same song, l thought they did that to make the flying levels have more of a universal theme.
@@mooganify The thing with Spyro 3's soundtrack is that having all of the speedway levels have the same track was because not all the tracks were finished by the time the game released. If you got the Greatest Hits/Platinum release, it had the right music where it was meant to be.
@@Wflash00 If I had to guess, it was due to time constraints with the NTSC version, and they released it on the PAL version since the soundtrack was done at that point
This is a slightly altered version of what we Americans know as "the Alternate Beast Maker's World Track". Still prefer the slower, more atmospheric track the US version has, but if you wait long enough in any Magic Crafter's world in the US version of the game, the US version of this track will play.
From what I've heard, seems like the Reignited Trilogy uses the US version of this theme. That's too bad, I really prefer this version, and this is coming from someone from the US.
I feel like I'm the only one who prefers the US version. High Caves is a creepy, mysterious place, which the US version gives that vibe perfectly. The PAL version is way too upbeat and lively. Feels like it'd fit a Beast Makers level. Tbh it sounds like it should go to Tree Tops, as opposed to its current music. 😂😂
I played this game through my childhood and knew it like the back of my hand, and I had heard the slowed down version of this as one of the alternate soundtracks, but somehow it took nearly two decades for me to realize where the song actually came from.
I find it interesting that this is the original High Caves theme but Tree Tops Alternative was used only for the NTSC version since this wasn't completed in time. This isn't the only track that wasn't completed, but Peace Keepers Alternative was used in mono in NTSC but completed for both mono and stereo in PAL copies. Strangely, Terrace Village was downgraded in PAL with only the mono version being present, unlike NTSC getting mono and stereo Terrace Village.
Owyn Hammersley Reignited is going to feature a couple of unused Copeland songs that never made it into the games or were cut as well as an opinion to switch to the OG music so I imagine it’ll be the PAL theme they’ll use
@@Ken22475 I'm American and I was looking forward to it. I was hoping to get the extra tracks that play if you sit in a level for an hour or so, too. I figured the NTSC version would be perfect as a bonus track, but this fits better for the level's main theme.
THIS IS NOT NEW (screamingginggin83) THIS IS MORE ORIGINAL THAN THE US VERSION. THE OTHER ONE IS NOT CATCHY, IT'S JUST TREE TOPS, IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. AND TO THE PERSON BELOW, LOOK AT YOUR FLAG, YOU HAVE THE UNION JACK ON IT :P
Same! This is the main reason as to why I play PAL versions of games in ePSXe. Not only that, back then most PAL versions are released slightly later, so there is evidence of bug fixes from their NTSC counterparts. Also when emulating in ePSXe, some NTSC games (which includes both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro trilogies) have those big ugly black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, which wastes screen space and screws up the aspect ratio, where in the PAL games the screen size is perfect. It would be a shame to waste all of the advantages of PAL for the sake of an extra 5/10 fps. ;)
I'm from Europe so I don't know better, I usually download NTSC version if I emulate to get that fps going, but for Spyro I don't care much it's not really noticeable anyway. The NTSC version uses a slower version of Tree Tops which is alright but compared to this one, it's no match who'll win.
The NTSC versions was rushed and unfinished in some small aspects, so I think they didnt had time to change the song. Then the PAL and NTSC J version got some tweaks and they finished and added this track.
I'm from Europe but this is the only good thing about this game. And the cover art is badass compared to the US version. I usually like the US covers a lot more and the fact they used slim jewelcases was awesome. We had those awful big boxes which break so easily and good luck finding new ones cause they didn't made them! And the fact that NTSC runs at 60 fps made me always jealouse. But gladly I can emulate these games with my RetroPie.
Unpopular Opinion Maybe it’s because I grew up hearing the other version, but the PAL version just doesn’t fit the theme of High Caves at all......it’s too.....fast?
well understandable for people with other version since it can be a bit bias. For me here growing up with this version, it's fitting pretty well, the "fast part" suit with the supercharge thing in this level.

At least they should have the option to switch between soundtracks like with the rerelease of Sonic CD.
