That day was about four or five years ago for me when I heard them for the first time. Somehow it felt like my experience of life living in London in the late nineties found its perfect pitch in their music and I couldn't work out how I'd not heard of them all those years ago.
Luckily, It only took me five years since their debut album to discover these fellas. So sad I'm not likely to see them live someday, as they've been terribly overlooked here (Mexico).
Hurts so good. Been coming back to this repeatedly this year. Been feeling like a bit of a ghost; but I just put this on, watch, and kinda go into a zone.
Such a good band, live and in the studio. As a big fan of early 80s dreamy jangle pop like Cleaners from Venus or Durutti Column, they've become a constant in my rotation.
Listening to this and getting very emotional. Been listening to them since A Fading Summer. Absolutely beautiful. Ethereal, transcendent, gorgeous ... there aren't words that capture them. I am sincerely in your debt for like most of my life. Cheers.
This is my favorite band of all time! So glad to see them here! I love hearing these more stripped down versions of the new songs. Makes it sound more like the sparseness of Suburban Light, their first brilliant LP release.
They remind me alot of "The Innocence Mission" and that is a true compliment. Thank you KEXP for being all about the music, and giving Musical Artists a wonderful platform to show the World their song's!
The Museum Of Fog One Friday night, in late summer, I was walking the old canal Cars passed, open windows blaring hits by Madonna. Buddleias overhung the road. I left the towpath as the light began to fail And found myself in a pub car park. From its battered sign, I recognized the Fox and Hounds I'd last visited two decades ago, Before I'd left the town for good, A 16-year-old slumped over an illegal rum and coke. A policeman had been striding towards the door And the landlady bundled me and my friends out of a window In the gents toilets From which we nimbly landed on the canal towpath And melted into the night, laughing. Inside, nothing had changed. The jukebox still boasted a 45 by Twinkle, Thirty years after it had dropped out of the charts Mock Tudor windows still faced the road and oak beams above blackened in a fug of smoke. No one was drinking there. A crowd didn't begin to gather until nine Kids, not cool exactly, but somehow... leonine. I guessed from the posters on the walls they'd come to see a band, And soon they were filing past me, Paying an entrance fee to a man in stonewashed denim And disappearing into a back room. The idea of a night drinking alone was unpleasant to me The pub was now empty. I had nothing to lose, and I picked up my beer Paid my money and followed them in The room was cramped and dark, and during a momentary hush, A singer on the stage was introduced as The Phantom. He was wearing the kind of plastic mask sold in art shops, and a superhero's cape. To a round of applause, several other musicians formed a circle, turned in on each other like wagons on a prairie. I looked around me: the crowd was bathed in the red glow of the stage lights. For a moment, the buzz of amps filled the expectant quiet. Then, without a count-in, the band began to play. Almost immediately, I froze. The sound their instruments made was almost-human: my beer glass slithered through my fingers As I recognized it as my own 16-year-old laughter, Escaping through a toilet window, retreating from a policeman, Dragged back through the long track of years which had passed, And re- presented, re-lived in front of the audience. In its disembodied state, it was one of the most purely beautiful things I have ever heard- it briefly brought the past back to life, Old hopes and innocence burst into sudden flower. I was sweating, shaking in the dark room, tears welling in my eyes. But within seconds the laughter died And the hair on my arms stood I had the physical sensation of shapes evaporating away Into the night outside. Slowly, the music took on a harsher, more abstract tenor And in it I heard the faint seashore noises of the motorway Building into a long drone which slowly became overwhelming Roaring like a jet engine To me, at that moment, it seemed to express our years of living With that motorway sound, years of it underscoring every day and night, every experience we'd lived through, cleansing it from our bodies and minds in a deafening catharsis. I was shaking as the band rounded their set out with a wash of bells or wind chimes. As they left the stage to scattered applause, it occurred to me that the Phantom had not sung a note. He was pushing through the crowd towards the exit Hemmed in by acolytes. I tried to get near him but I couldn't. Dazzled by the sudden bright light in the room, My certainty drifted away Had the sounds I'd heard been exactly what I'd thought they were? I was in a difficult, neurotic state and perhaps there were memories welling up that I couldn't control. I felt suddenly depressed and tired, disgusted with my own numbness. Kids were leaving, ignitions starting up outside; The Phantom had joined a carload, Rolling on up the road towards the town and its only nightclub. The pub was closing down. I stood in the night And I wondered what had been taken from me
Thank you, my friend! I LOVE this group. Although I must say, sometimes the KEXP acoustic versions are superior to the sometimes overproduced (?), more sterile sounding recorded product (a great example wuld be Wolf Alice - check them out, so sublime). Thanks so much.
One day millions of people will realize that they should have listen to this band years ago.
So underrated!
Luis P have been for some time, some cool music , good lyrics, good sound, the Brits have many a good bands always have, from 60s to about now.

it sounds like the Beatles if they never broke up and all grew up into married w/children life
For the first time, I just heard this amazing band Nov 30th 2020 on KXLU
One of the most underrated bands, otherworldly sound!🙏🏼
For sure only 20k views what a injustice
give credit to the engineer as well for capturing their sound and really bringing it to life
This bass player is making the whole thing work. Great band!
Suburban Light is my favorite album of all time so this is a treat.
Mine too! I'm glad to see them get back together!
Listen to this new one closer. Its right there together with suburban light
Saw them play in an art gallery in Detroit in 2002 and have loved them ever since . They create some of the best music of our time . Listen up
Hurts so good. Been coming back to this repeatedly this year. Been feeling like a bit of a ghost; but I just put this on, watch, and kinda go into a zone.
MageWithoutOrgans beautiful. I know what you mean

Alasdair’s Tele Thin Line & that amp tremolo = clutch
I've loved these guys from day one.Grab your favorite chair, and chill out to the Clientele!
Random gem I found on RUclips. I’m loving your sound.
So breathtaking. They're all so clearly and effortlessly talented, and blend so well together. Would love to be able to see them live some day!
Amazing live band. Highly recommend!
Can't believe I met Alasdair once and totally missed the opportunity to tell him to "keep it unreal". Classic case of staircase wit.
Ace performance from the Clientele. And my God, Alethea is stunning.

Love this sound combination since 2008.
Bonfires on the Heath...truly music that exemplifies the Fall season in my opinion.
They remind me alot of "The Innocence Mission" and that is a true compliment. Thank you KEXP for being all about the music, and giving Musical Artists a wonderful platform to show the World their song's!
Mesmerizing music. 😌
Una banda que no es pretenciosa, pero aún así logra cautivar con su sonido sencillo y a la vez hermoso.
Saw them perform live in October. Best performance of 2017 for me!
Now THIS is great quarantine music. (And great music in general of course)

He kinda plays like Joni Mitchell (The main singer). I love this band's sound.
I think The age of Miracles was not played on this performance, but the description mentions it, it is a bummer, because i love that song.
It's included in this session!
KEXP yes! My mistake, little confused with lyra in october
Gorgeous sound! More pretty music please, less rackety noise. The Clientele, yummy on the ears, I'm going straight to bandcamp and buying it!
oh yes tremolo all the way!
I know Alasdair names the narrator on Museum of Fog but does anyone know who she is?
Alicia Macanás :-)
@@aliciamacanas haha. Thank you. Your narration and performance of the song is wonderful!
The Clientele are up there on the ..... wait, what is the English version of Mount Rushmore?
OMG! It's not on Bandcamp! Where is it?

Needs more tremolo on the guitar ....
Needs quadrupolo
compress them vocals dog, that shit should pop. its all guitar! mediocre mix.
Maybe they don’t want to should all over themselves and sound like everyone else.
