@@evilcaddy 308 typically refers to 7.62x51 and civilian variant 308 winchester. They are certainly much longer compared to 7.62x39 and cannot fit into standard AK platform. It can fit in Yugo M76 (AK style sniper rifle and DMR) though it's typically used in 7.92x57 Mauser.

Both rounds will fire out of guns designed for the other just running 308 in a 7.62x51 firearm is dangerous because 308 runs at a higher psi.

scrooglemcdoogle the .223/5.56 is the standard round for the US ar-15/M-4 platform the .308 and 7.62 are so incredibly close you can fire the 7.62 in a 308 firearm. legit the only difference is that the 7.62 runs about 12,000 less psi.
