@@evilcaddy 308 typically refers to 7.62x51 and civilian variant 308 winchester. They are certainly much longer compared to 7.62x39 and cannot fit into standard AK platform. It can fit in Yugo M76 (AK style sniper rifle and DMR) though it's typically used in 7.92x57 Mauser.

So 7.62mm ammo fits nicely into .308 chambers, as a rule." 7.62 and 308 are almost identical. Both rounds will fire out of guns designed for the other just running 308 in a 7.62x51 firearm is dangerous because 308 runs at a higher psi.
