Yes please! Streets of fire is one of my all-time favorite cult films. With a lot of great actors. The soundtrack is fabulous. A lot of music is featured in this movie.
Dan was an amazing singer and performer (look up this one on Letterman) but also write songs for other artists. He actually offered this song to Hall and Oates because they were good friends. They turned him down so he made it into a huge hit all by himself! They stayed friends and they ended up recording a version (after he passed) as a tribute. ❤️
Funny Fact ... -- He also had to serve prison time right as the song started to chart... so he actually made money off the royalties, because the Label did not have him out touring and racking up bills
I never knew about him offering this to Hall and Oates... but it makes TOTAL sense, as this sounds SO much like them! Good for Dan for doing this himself!
Good ol days.. everytime I hear this, I remember Casey Kasem and American Top40.. 1984,1985 great years in music. If I recall correctly, these were in or almost the same time when this was in the countdown, along with Don Henley's Boys Of Summer, Steve Perry's Oh Sherrie, Night Ranger's Sister Christian, Kool & The Gang's Joanna and Misled, Duran Duran's Wild Boys, Wham!'s Everything She Wants, John Waite's Missing You, Van Stephenson's Modern Day Delilah, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band's On The Dark Side, etc...
He wrote, played bass, and sang lead on the Edgar Winter Group “Free Ride”. A great song but very different. Also the girl in the video is Joyce Heyser who starred in “Just One of the Guys” around the same time this song came out.
Dan, who helped produce Edgar Winter on a few of his album, who was a member of the band for many year, and was the bass player on the "Frankenstein" video you reacted to had quite a few hits. His greatest two IMO were his great, classic dance singles "(Vertigo) Relight My Fire" and "Love Sensation" both featuring the great Loletta Holloway.
" I Can Dream About You" is one of my all-time favorite songs of the 80s! You should check out Dan and his band's performance of this song on Soul Train. They are on fire! 🔥 And, Jay, if you want a faster Dan Hartman song, check out his disco hit "Instant Replay"! 🎶
The TV clips from this song were because this song was part of the movie "Streets of Fire", where the guys on stage performed it as a motown-type of band.
Ok. You can't just say "tuning in from Fiji." You must, MUST rub it our faces, that WE, a) aren't in Fiji b) don't LIVE in Fiji c) will NEVER live in PARADISE. I expected better from you N--6!
The singers in the TV behind the bar were ‘singing’ I can Dream in the movie “Streets of Fire”. I VERY highly recommend you see it. You will see a young Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Michael Pare, and a very nasty looking Willem Defoe, all along with great music!
One of my favorite songs from the soundtrack 'Streets of Fire'. They are watching clips from the movie, in the bar. Check it out on the movie channel if you can! Great reaction!
This song was in the oviedo Streets of Fire, clips of the song performance in the film are playing on the TV. One of the weirdest rock related movies you'll ever see.
So the performance on the TV is from the movie Streets of Fire and takes place at the climactic end of one of my ALL TIME favorite guilty pleasures. It's dubbed "A Rock n Roll Fable" I can almost guarantee you guys will love. Its a little corny but its a ton of fun.
"Streets of Fire" was the movie 🍿 and this was the song with choreo to copy! Also "On the dark side" by John Cafferty. Thanks for this reaction! Still know the steps lol. Diane Lane was also in this movie. The actor who played her love interest was so handsome, Michael Paré. ☺️
A little background: Dan was mainly a disco singer. He was successful where others failed in that he morphed it into the 80s like nobody;s business. very talented. Sadly, we lost Dan March 1994.
I have always liked this song since I’m and 80’s guy. Here’s one I want to see your reaction to if you haven’t already. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - On The Dark Side.
I’m confused that you don’t question why there are two different performances going on here. The song was featured in a movie and this group on stage was lip syncing. Hartman was a “pop” singer and offered his songs to various artists. But they were in tune with the music of that era!
Dan’s first single “ Instant Replay” from 1979, catapulted his singing career to stardom. But when “I Can Dream About You” played on the radio, it really soared to the top Billboard 100 music charts in the 1980’s. Turning him into a bigger singing star. I Can Dream About You is featured in the film “ Streets of Fire” in the 1980’s, it failed at the box office, but this song made the movie popular again. Dan’s Instant Replay was a disco hit song, everyone danced to. Then I Can Dream About You was more of a r&b/pop hit song. Sadly Dan Hartman died from cancer, I believe in the late 80’s. R.I.P. Dan
This song was made for a movie called "Streets of Fire", a Rock & Roll action fable, very cheesy 80s, but man do I love it. The soundtrack is fantastic, full of original songs. If you want something upbeat try "Nowhere Fast" or "Tonight is What it Means to be Young" from this move. Funny you said he has soul because in the movie a Black man lip-sinks this song.
OK.. the video on the TV is where this song comes from. The movie was called Streets of Fire... Great sound track including song from Bonnie Tyler I think
a Great movie to check out as well... "Streets of Fire" has this song in it, a Rock and Roll Opera .. great soundtrack.. Meatloaf even has a part in it.. this was the movie that premiered at the John Cougar Mellencamp "Little Pink House" Party
The girl in this video looks a lot like the actress who played Tim's wife in Home Improvement. Just a coincidence? Oh and glad the sound has been fixed !
Okay, guys you've stumbled on guy who has made the dance floor his.'Instant replay , is good but you want to go somewhere faster try 'Relight my fire' it is floor stopper. Too this day you'll pack a floor with it. It's done with the mighty help of Loretta Holloway. Try it.'
You guys really need to check out Howard Jones. “No One Is To Blame”, or “New Song”. Amber will probably dig “New Song” it’s quirky and the lyrics are about individuality.
The video shown playing on the TV is from the 1984 neo-noir rock musical film "Streets of Fire." And the performers are the Sorels, a fictitious group specifically formed for the film. But, as you can tell, although lead singer/actor Stoney Jackson is lip-synching the song, his dance moves are the real deal, as he previous appeared in Michael Jackson's music video "Beat It." According to Dan Hartman, "The producers and directors of Streets of Fire wanted the best of everything, so they hired the best singers, the best dancers and best actors to play the parts in the film. So the singers in 'I Can Dream About You' who are the Sorels are actually actors, and I wrote and sang this song." Dan Hartman, RIP March 1994.
Streets of Fire is a legit great movie. Check out Fire Inc.'s video for "Tonight is What it Means to be Young" . The song was written by the legendary Jim Steinman, who's resume includes: Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", the Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion" and "More", Barry Manilow's "Read 'Em and Weep", Celine Dion's cover of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now".

Just told them the same thing great movie
I have suggested both the movie and "Nowhere Fast" and '" Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young" several times both by email and comments

For a long time I thought this was Hall n Oates. I'll have to look for the tribute version. Thanks
I always thought this was hall and oats.... Im shook.

RIP Dan Hartman, LEGEND!
Lots of songs remind me of the 80s... this song puts me there.. more than any other. I love it
What a wonderful song, this was a big radio hit. So glad you got a chance to hear this, it's an incredible song.
Fantastic choice, a favourite from the 80s. RIP Dan Hartman. Tuning in from Fiji 🇫🇯
I would love to visit Fiji one day. My sister has traveled all over the world and she said the most beautiful country she ever saw was Fiji.

This is one of those songs that makes me miss the 80's so much. Glad you chose this. "Instant Replay" is his other hit from 1979.
Very talented musician and songwriter from Harrisburg, PA. RIP Mr Hartman.
Serious high school memories going on with this one. Haven't heard this in ages. Job done you two. I am most definitely smiling. 🇭🇲
This takes me back when this song came out. Love this song!😍
Great 80's pop song! Dan Hartman RIP.
I love this man's voice! So sad he left us to soon.
My teen years in the 80s, always liked this song. 😊
One of my fav songs back in the early 80s
Dan always reminded me of Darryl Hall with that soulful sound
If no one mentioned, Dan Hartman was lead singer of the Raspberries, and their #1 hit was up-beat as all get out. Check out "Go All the Way"
Sorry, but that was Eric Carmen.
@@RenegadeRockChik My goof. But he did write and record Free Ride with the Edgar Winter Group.

He captured a very Motown sound which is what the film and era of the film was going for.

More upbeat by Dan Hartman? OK "Instant Replay" BANGER BANGER BANGER 🔥 👌
