I think that all songs from his first three albums plus Night and Day and Body and Soul outstrip Elvis Costello's catalog. Throw in Body and Soul and Big World into that mix as well. Holy shit that's a lot. And then you have Blaze of Glory and Laughter and Lust which were also pretty great. That's a huge run of albums. And I loved Night and Day II, but that's an indulgence.
JJ is not rock and roll. He has no category. Not really a good player on his records, but the songs are like XTC and not quite Elvis Costello. He has no category. He's just going to be his own outsider thing. Probably more great songs than a lot of R&R Hall of Fame denizens but nobody talks about him. Why is that?
Saw this tour. (I'm old.) Best sound and mix of any live performance ever. Drums and vocals were magical. No Graham Maby on bass was a bummer and a rarity and the guitar was a bit weird but everything else was out there.
Not actually the tour, but the recording of the Big World album. (On the Live in Tokyo video, I believe it's Tom Teeley on guitar, instead of Vinnie Zummo.) I owned a copy of the official video on beta at the time.
The drummer ALWAYS gets the blame. After they stopped the song (during the intro) Joe turns to the drummer and says " what happened?...you were a little slow, right?" But Joe is the one who counted off the song!
Un album que j’ai tellement écouté jusqu’à le poncer durant l’année 86 , Une pépite !
Seen him twice in Melbourne. Genius. Hope he is remembered as such.
Groovy Musik und prophetische Texte. So was kriegen die meisten nicht mal im 48 Kanal Studio hin. 😏
GREAT audio! My favorite album by Joe Jackson, 'Big World'.
Best and most underrated. It's an anomaly throughout the entire music business for that reason, in my opinion.
Same here, wish he'd used all four sides :)
It's one of my all-time favorite albums.
2 "BEST" songs ; SOUL KISS & RIGHT and WRONG ! THANKS JOE... LOVE YOU

Why is this guy not in the R&R Hall of Fame?

I have an inkling he could not care less about the "R&R Hall of Fame"
No argument from me.
@@pauljohnson8847 Why is that? You just explained it.
such an phenomenal talent .. then and NOW!!!
BIG WORLD was and is the pinnacle of JJ Catalog
Night and Day is the top by far, but I do believe that Big World has big moments. I think the songs are great; the band not so much.
One of my favorites after seeing him on this tour in NYC.
Still fresh..
Joe and his players are always right on. Thanks for uploading.
WOOW WHAT A WORK OF ART
sooooooooooooooooooooooo gut, danke für´s posten
waouuuuuuuuu ! c'est sur cette musique que j'ai rencontré l'homme de ma vie ! Merciii JJ !

Saw the concert in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Come on Joe and play the piano
"Fools in Love" is my favorite reggae song of all.
So smooth!
My goodness how I love this man! One of my five “musical geniuses” (Todd Rundgren, Pete Townshend, Roger Waters and Peter Gabriel)
excellent...thanks
Also, the BEST FUCKING DRUM SOUND OF ALL TIME
I heard he used a 20's Ludwig Black Beauty on this recording. Sounds massive.
der song ist so schwer zu kriegen, ich hab zwanzig jahre gesucht, nochmal danke

VINNIE!
Think this was his best album
JJ - What a talent. Tight band too. For taking Grant’s spot, the bassist is rather good.
...
and the drummer? and the guitarist? What a tight talented band !!
Graham (not Grant) Maby. But yes... this guy is great, too
@@TonyLovell ugh. I tried to recall a bygone period in my life.

Kevin Trotter Yes ! You' re right!!!
@@betofae No he is not right. It was the drummer that fucked up. Listen to it again. The drummer clearly missed another few bangs on the snare.
And Joe missed a few lyrics there, too. Yet, it still was an awesome performance. One of my favorite JJ lps.
Where's Graham?
Bathtub Gin
Every malaise Joe sang about in this album has gotten way worse in the intervening years.
