    I may have to check out safetywing for my upcoming trip to Japan. I have gone through World Nomad before.
    I don’t have trip coverage from my card so that is something I’m looking at.
    As always thanks for the informative video! Love your channel❤

      Thanks for watching! We have peace of mind knowing we have travel coverage. SafetyWing might be cheaper than World Nomad, it's worth comparing. 🌺 Heidi

    Even if you have international medical through your insurance is impossible to get the hospital to contact your carrier so they can direct bill. You have to pay it in yen or on a credit card. That’s fine for something minor but if you end up admitted to the hospital for something major you’re in trouble.

      Good point! With our travel medical insurance we also usually pay upfront and then get reimbursed.

    We use and recommend SafetyWing Nomad Insurance. Default coverage is 4 weeks. For a shorter trip, select "Pricing" and then "Specific travel dates". We appreciate when you use our ambassador link: safetywing.com/ambassador/refer/24749286

    How do you benefit from Chase travel protections? They only apply to trips of five days up to 60 days according to the terms and conditions. I’ve never sought out a precise explanation from Chase, but I kinda assumed they would judge a trip starting date to be based on when I left my credit card zip code. So I always assumed this sadly wouldn’t cover expats and long term nomads.
    I do know they also have a requirement for a trip to be at least 100 miles away from home, and customer service told me that was based on the zip code of the card.

    I've been watching all of your Japan videos and loving each of them! Bummer that I am not able to purchase travel med insurance from saftey wing because I reside in Florida. Any suggestions for other reputable companies I may try?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  9 месяцев назад

      We didn't know that residents of Florida are excluded. We haven't tried any other travel medical insurance in quite a while. We've heard of World Nomads: www.worldnomads.com/usa/travel-insurance/whats-covered/digital-nomads

    Wow. Surprised they covered coming back home with Covid. My family and I had a pretty expensive travel insurance policy and were in Belize to start a vacation. The Belize government announced that they were closing all the borders in a few hours and that all foreigners should return home. We had no idea when we would be able to get back home/ when Belize would reopen its borders, so even though we had arrived just a few hours earlier, we bought a return ticket and had to turn around and fly back home. Super sad! We had rented a private island and it should have been the trip of a lifetime. (It turned out to be a good call because Belize remained closed for many months and my husband had chemo infusions every 2 weeks.) Our travel insurance company (a different one, but a well-known one) said they don't cover a pandemic and never paid us a dime.

      Safety Wing Nomads has decent reviews online. I checked it out, but it appears they don't cover "organized" sports. I am going over for a triathlon and, as much as I will try to NOT hurt myself, I don't think a race injury would be covered. They also specifically mention competition not being allowed. (I am an amateur, but you still compete for World Championship slots.) Any other suggestions for insurance that you have seen work in Japan?

      SafetyWing is the only insurance we've used recently in Japan. We'll let you know if we come across any other options.

    Hi, would you recommend purchasing travel insurance at a Japanese airport? I preferred to have an insurance company that works directly with the Japanese hospitals and pay the cost upfront, and found Tokio Marine’s TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY offers that coverage for foreigners. However, I can find much reviews on it. Thank you in advance for your advised.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  9 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, We have never purchased travel insurance at the airport in Japan. Tokio Marine was the underwriter for our SafetyWing travel insurance. Sorry we can't provide feedback, but it would be nice to have a plan that pays upfront.

    So you have a recommended travel insurance for short term stays? Like 1-2 weeks?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Год назад +2

      Hi! Thanks for your comment. I contacted SafetyWing and found out that Nomad Insurance can be purchased for a specific date range, for a minimum of 5 days. If you go to "Pricing" and then check the box for "Specific travel dates". It looks like there is a savings for a one-week trip, but a two-week trip is close to the same price as 4 weeks. I think it's still a good price for what it covers. Here's our referral link again: safetywing.com/ambassador/refer/24749286

    Have you ever had the need to file for claims with Safetywing for any covered medical emergencies? Reddit and other review sites seem to have the same theme, easy to sign up for but once you actually need to file a claim, you have to fight it and Safetywing doesn't actually pay the claims. Just wondering if you ever had to file your claims before.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. The first claim we filed was for political evacuation (due to Covid). It took a few months, but SafetyWing did reimburse our flight home. I think they had a different underwriter back then. We recently filed our first medical claim for an ER visit, and everything was submitted online. We are still waiting to hear back. It does seem to be easier to submit a claim these days. 🌸 Heidi

    Can you tell me if we can use a Suica card to purchase tickets for the bullet trains from Hiroshima to Kyoto to Tokyo?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  8 дней назад

      Hi. A Suica card alone doesn’t work to purchase bullet train tickets. However, you can buy tickets online on SmartEX and then link those tickets to your Suica card. That way you just need to tap your Suica card to enter the ticket gate. Here’s our video explaining the process: ruclips.net/video/KglsSHuex0Q/видео.htmlsi=MHMlZUVaepYJE4DL

    Sorry for the late message on this video. But in October, me and my wife and sister in law are visiting Japan for 2 weeks. Me and my wife are living in the United Kingdom, London to be precise. And she is in possession of a Indian passport, and I’m having a Dutch passport. I know that she needs a international travel insurance, but I also heard that is better for me to have a travel insurance as well. What do you guys think, shall I take one or not? As my passport is amongst the most powerful in the world, and healthcare in UK is free?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  12 дней назад +1

      It's a good idea to have travel health insurance, in case there is an emergency while you are in Japan.
