In the late 1980s I was heading home to south Georgia from Atlanta late one night listening to my eight track.I got to Macon pulled to top of the Otis Redding Memorial bridge lit a big cigar grabbed a cold beer got this song on turned the volume wide open and had my own tribute to the big O.
We lost Otis too soon. He was just beginning to hit big stardom. He did an outstanding show at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967 which widened his audience, and then the following December he died in the plane crash and he was just 28. Who knows how much more great music and performances we would have got from him, but I'm sure there would have been many. Thanks for the video.
The fact is Otis was only 26 (1941-1967) when he perished. Twenty six is an awfully young age. What a shame. It is also a shame so many people only know of one song that Otis recorded. He left us with a long list of great music that will last forever.
In 50 years of listening to HEAVY ROCK, I have NEVER heard Anything that rocks so hard and fast. Absolutely EVERYONE from Otis to Sandi Searjent (middle dancer) to the horns is WAILING.
THIS MAN was such a SEXY SOUL man !!!! They don't make them like him anymore where has all the soul power in Music Gone nowadays???I don't think anyone could keep up with him!!! his Timing was Impeccable! Otis i LOVE you . x
Best of the best by the best. This is my favorite song on the planet...The Blues Brothers never attempted it, Edgar & Johnny and Wayne tried it but the original still stands as the supreme standard. Thanks for the vid and the memory.
The GREAT the FABULOUS mr OTIS READING! This video says it all! So tragically taken but left us with some absolutely wonderful music🎼👍! R I P mr REDDING🌈
The best footage I've ever seen of Otis, along with Shake that he sings straight after this. Unbelievable-picked up theofficla video in a random second hand shop in Hull, best thing I ever bought.
I don't know how many years it's been that I keep coming back to this video but it's been a few and I will be watching it in my last year of life if I'm able. Fucking electrifying!! Otis is soooo good it's not funny, and that middle chick dancing is something special on all levels. I think she pushed Otis a little extra here!!! PS no one in the audience is clapping on time that's some funny shit!!!
LET ME TELL YA SOMETHIN,THEY DONT MAKEIM AS COOL AS OTIS ANYMORE AND THEY NEVER WILL...HE COULD SING THE SOUL,MAKE THE MOVES,WRITE TIMELESS SONGS AND HAVE CHARISMA FOR DAYS...PERIOD!
Fuckin' rights he is, he's got a full tank of gas and a half a pack of Marlboro's, now let's get to the county clerk's office and pay that $5000 for the Penguin!!!
Otis letting everything loose on this great video! Absolutely one of my 10 favorite videos on youtube. If there's anyone who can stay still listening to this.. I tell ya he/she has no sense of riddim! You Go Otis!!!
I've been looking for this vid for some time now after seeing it featured on MuchMusic. Otis Redding was one of the greatest performers that ever graced a stage. What a voice. Much thanks.
The 60's were just so chock-full of awesome music. I was too young to experience it firsthand, but nevertheless my iPod is probably about 80% sixties music. Nothing tops it.
O how I love this "big fine hunk of a man", I was a baby when Mr Otis Redding passed. I seriously wish he was born in my generation.......Thank God for youtube, so I can watch him and wonder just how big he would have become had he lived longer.
Don't know where you found this, but it is pure gold. I LOVED old soul, there were so many great talents. For songwriting you had HDH in Det. or Cropper, Hayes & Co. in Memphis. And for the greatest voices IMO you had Levi & Otis! Raw power, plaintive emotion, depth of feeling... Truly, it has never gotten better than this.. Thanks for posting this brilliant little gem!
@samhsimms So true! No wonder there were not chubby teens back in my day! We were all Go Go Girls in the 60's! Or as Otis says Hip Shakin Mama's! lol Love it! ♥♥
I love this song, tempo and beat, but face it, even the professional dancers can't keep up with it! No wonder people are standing around bewildered! Hehehe...
I am old enough to remember this from the time and saw it back then. There was another Ready Steady Go special featuring Ike and Tina Turner. That too was brilliant. I have looked all over the net and can't find it.
Loved Otis since I was 13 and when he was only played on black "Soul" stations in NY like WWRL WLIB and WNJR but soon he was all over the radio dial on the NY rock and roll stations I just wish I had seen him I did get to see Wilson Pickett and James Brown We cut school took an express train and 45 minutes later we were in front of the Apollo on 125th st. the audience went crazy even blonde haired blue eyed me
I was first introduced to the instrumental version of this track in the Blues Brothers car chase scene through a shopping mall in 1980. Some years later, watching reruns of Ready Steady go on UK tv. I heard the original song and was blown away. Otis's live versions of this song are better in my opinion. Like this version here. My favourite is his live at the Whisky go go.
R&B at its best!!!! Glad the Blues Brothers included it in their original movie...I think it was the scene when they were driving thru the mall "the Oldsmobiles are in early this year" and "do you have Ms Piggy?"
Otis Redding is my favourite singer. Jimmy Hendrix is my favourite guitar player followed by Jeff Beck..- I'm white and 68 yrs old,. though we speak of our external selves.
Mr. ELECTRIC ⚡
Today's performers can't compare to this man !
"Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them"
Still the greatest Otis.
Got to see Otis several times at the Regal Theater in Chicago in the early-mid sixties -- Perhaps the most joyous performer ever. RIP
The greatest soul singer of all time
top 3 are James Brown, Al green, and Otis. The order changes day by day and honorable mention goes to Wilson Pickett ;-)

@@scienz And the best white soul singer was Steve Marriott.

The drumming and bass playing on this song is the truth.
Christ, this song has a LOT of energy to it. Thank you Blues Brothers for turning me onto real music.
to those that say the 60's were overrated and didn't swing.. just watch this.. stunning.. brilliant..!!
Amazing!! The dancers rock it!!
Otis Redding was, and still is, The greatest. Feeling personified!
man, I'm 26, and it hurts that I couldn't tell you this when I was 20...Otis will live on with the youngins....trust us. Long live the man!
For me, Otis WAS the best R & B singer ever.

The people in the audience don't have a clue what to do with this kind of energy, passion and soul! They look like deer in headlights!
Never heard the original version of this before, it's great! Really gets you goin'!

Had he lived, he would’ve been bigger than Elvis. He was a great artist and he got something essential about music.
Are u sure he is. Dead creatures never die, question is do u believe me?
SUCH A GREAT TALENT TO BE TAKIN FROM US SO YOUNG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the opening it’s so soul moving

ぶりぶりざえもんが核ミサイル撃ったり、とんかつ屋爆破させたり、アメリカ大使館の護衛を屁で完封する時のbgmってこんなにかっこよかったのか…!
Otis is on a mission from God with Jake and Elwood
it is a reference to the Blues Brothers
Fuckin' rights he is, he's got a full tank of gas and a half a pack of Marlboro's, now let's get to the county clerk's office and pay that $5000 for the Penguin!!!
My grandson is called Elwood
Janke and Elwood couldn't fetch a sweat towel for Otis Redding. White-boy blues bullshit.
@@tommytimp calm your tits. I was making a movie reference.
Fantastic! Otis was THE MAN!!!! Added to favourites!

Fabulous! Love me some Otis!Love the go-go dancers too; if I danced like that now I would do myself a mischief!
if they're still around they would probably do themselves a mischief now too lol
they really had it going on back in the day though
Saw him summer 1966 at the Akron Civic Theater . Best gig ever.
