It's interesting to see that all of Nick's family, except for David, are good people. None of them picks at him about his time in the hospital, none of them asks him about his inability to eat.
Nick is THE best golden retriever ever in This Winter. He has matured and become wise beyond his years compared to his Heartstopper Comics self. He’s ready to embark on something long term with Charlie. Even when things almost go to shit later (in Nick and Charlie) he manages to keep a long term perspective and make things work for them.
I've read "Nick and Charlie", which is really hard. But, as I am a love believer, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be strong enough to make them overcome every adversity. Nick and Charlie's love is one in a million, and we feel it. This video (about "This Winter") shows us that it doesn't matter how huge a problem is. Where there's a will, there's love.
I enjoyed the story very much, so much I got the audio book to listen to. It is about an hour, so it is a perfect short-story audio book length. I am looking forward to another season of Heartstopper, but I wonder how much will it change the tone of the show? I mean we have dark moments and foreshadowing too, but I wonder how they will handle the mental health issues present. Could we have those in season 2? or will they gloss over them for a season 3, so we see them on school vacation? I am curious with anticipation to see how they will do this! Ontopic, I wanted to say, reading the book, mental health does play a huge part in peoples christmas joy. Suicides are way up over christmas and new year, homelessness, loneliness. It can be a very sad time for many. With mental health it can be nothing short of dreadful as the build up to christmas begins. My parents often argued over christmas, especially about money, it would cause huge rows and stress, they had very little, but tried very hard to make it a good christmas. But you could see the cracks of stress and depression would return after new year. My father passed away just before christmas eve, I was so stressed, so lost, but we had to go on with the holiday season. We had purchased everything already. It was the hardest and darkest part of my life. I was the one who always took christmas as fun and jokey. I loved christmas and still do, but it feels empty. My mother passed seven months later, (she had terminal illness), but they were the two darkest christmas I had ever encountered. eight months of therapy. I still dread christmas, but I kept all my parents christmas things, I put up there tree and their decorations. i just wish they were here to see them. I know they are. So for me Christmas is super important,. but I know how dark it can feel to be lost for a time. Reading the book brings good memories and sad ones. if a story can do that. It must be doing something good.
Thanks for this. What a great reaction. I will be getting my copy of "This Winter" in a few days and can't wait to read it. I love your passion for Heartstopper and look forward to your reactions to season 2 and 3!!
Tori blaming herself is just so heartbreaking. I mean - she's only 16 and it just feels like she's carrying the weight of the whole family on her shoulders. Seriously, WHERE are the parents in all of this????? 😬😬😬
@@JackieRossLavender it feels like their mother is all about keeping up appearances rather than looking out for her children - so Charlie's mental illness is almost like a dirty secret she's determined to keep under wraps. And Charlie is just sick of pretending...
This Winter is hard stuff. The Heartstopper tv show is more light-hearted than the comics. It’s targeted toward a slightly younger audience. Because of that I doubt that This Winter’s narrative/events will find their way into the next HS seasons. There could certainly be a 90min film made out of it, though. I can just see it because the relationships explored really lend themselves to the deeper, more in-depth film treatment. That would be great.
I loved all your Heartstopper reactions, including this one. I'm over 50 and a lot of the same things resonate with me. Just wanted to say that, although i know you didn't in the end, maybe consider spending Christmases that you're alone with Rhys' family instead. It sure sounds like you're welcome.
I’m definitely welcome. I wanted to this christmas just gone but couldn’t because I had work at 7am on Boxing Day and there wasn’t any trains to london. This year for sure though!
Loved this, great to hear the novella being broken down. Alice said they won't cast an Oliver as it's too complicated having a younger actor on set because of the logistics and rules etc... Keep up the great work.🥰
I understand why they left out Oliver - as Alice said in an interview- with Heartstopper as a show being spread over a few years in real life but only covering like 2 years in the show - a young actor would grow too fast and would create continuation problems.
Do you think that 'This Winter' will be part of season 3 of Heartstopper since it deals with volume 4 of the books? I bought volume 4 and this book at the same and reading them was heartbreaking as well as beautiful.
@@JackieRossLavender just want you to know that I really enjoy all of the vids that you have done for heartstopper. The comics vs show are my favorites because I didn't purchas volumes 1-3 of the comics so it is great to see how they are different from the show. I did buy volume 4 and the 2 novellas. Your reactions to the show's episodes make me see things that I didn't realize from watching each show. I have seen each episode over 20 times. You are such an awesome and beautiful person.
Awwww man I'm sorry you're gonna be by yourself at Christmas. If I knew you I'd invite you to my mum's as I'm in London. Do you have any friends in London?
Awe dude bless you that’s super sweet. I’ve actually decided to travel back home to bournemouth after work on Christmas eve and spend christmas day with my best friend and god son ❤️

I came into this book not knowing what I’d picked up was part of a franchise so I can say it works as a standalone piece so a film could work.
Olfactophilia-literally the Smell of Love is why Charlie steals Nick’s Jumpers

Alice posted recently that season 3 will be volumes 4 & 5 and This Winter and if they get season 4 it will be volume 6 and Nick and Charlie ❤️
Is any idea as to when Netflix will decide if there will be a season 4?
Not really. Personally I don’t it’ll be until season 3 is out. It was very usual when heartstopper got renewed for season 2 and 3 at the same time.
