The Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County churns through thousands more acres overnight devouring everything in its path. At least 5,000 acres have burned as of 11pm Friday night.
A brush fire that erupted in Santa Barbara County sent up towering columns of smoke over Los Padres National Forest land Friday afternoon and overnight, The blaze had exploded to an estimated 4,673 acres before 11 p.m. The Lake Fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. in rugged terrain near Zaca Lake, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports. Flames from the Lake Fire, near Zaca Lake in Santa Barbara County, are visible in a PG&E camera as the blaze grew to nearly 5,000 acres late Friday night. Size estimates grew from about 500 acres before nightfall to nearly 5,000 a few hours later, according to Cal Fire. Firefighters had evacuated the Zaca Lake Resort in the Santa Ynez Valley, the fire department's spokesman, Scott Safechuck, reported on social media. The lake is northeast of the town of Los Olivos, located along Highway 154. Santa Barbara County's Office of Emergency Management issued an evacuation warning around 9 p.m., meaning residents should be ready to leave, for Figueroa Mountain Road from the Forest Station to Chamberlin Ranch. Authorities had also closed Figueroa Mountain Road at Midland School. Safechuck posted late Friday night the temperature was 90 degrees and relative humidity 9% in the fire area.
