The push is to wean you over to full frame I suppose but how many wedding photographers are there actually out there who may actually need lenses for the reincarnation of this old 35mm film frame size in the digital age? Phones are getting good results out of tiny sensors so this belated go big fad seems more of a death rattle from a dying industry. Who really needs eyelash length depth of field? The future to me looks more and more like m43 for the hobbyist and 35mm for the specialist and uber rich. Olympus seems to have been the next company after Samsung to see the light and exit but at least Olympus handed it over to a company geared to keep things going in the new environment. The old guard companies plod on fingers crossed hoping it will all get better one day and everyone can just throw away their old lenses and buy a whole heap of new ones. All change all change, new system yet again.

Canon could absolutely make a 16-50mm kit lens, but it would almost certainly cost more, and very few people will care (they have very likely done extensive market research to quantify this fact). I don't see this RF-S System as a replacement for the EOS M System as long as the R10 is the samllest option. It is simply not small enough as a complete system for travelling light. I will happily keep my EOS M5 with M lenses even if I will keep my already preordered R10. As landscape photographer I don't need "better" apertures. I prefer the lightweight philosophy. I'm curios how the R10 will pair with my RF 800mm f/11 lens. Hopefully I get the camera before my Nothwest Passage trip begins in August/September. The R10/18-45 kit will serve as lightweight option during the flight when I don't want to grab th bigger anf heavier EOS R equipment.

I say make cheap fast primes for newbies on crop, and small fast zooms like the efs 17-55 2.8
Make the point of difference in excellent images and the real deal in shooting on nice glass.

This lens manages to be worse than the EF-M equivalent in both zoom range and maximum aperture and is utterly inexcusable. Their tighter crop does not help. Canon needed 15mm in EOS-M to just to make 24mm with their tighter crop. The Fuji is of course 22.5mm and auto deploys. The manual move in this Canon lens to deploy it can miss a shot and I find irritating on my m43 lens when this is present. The Fuji lens has electric zoom so they all manage to miff things in some way but it is the lens I find the most useful and cheap. I even manage to tolerate it on an X-E1 which does not have the micro adjust on the focusing ring. I would think 50% of photographers are not aware anyone but Canon produces cameras so they need not really over worry on what they churn out. I have a handy little Nikon A1000 compact superzoom and its sensor outperforms anything Canon do at 1/2.3" by a significant amount but I doubt if many people are even aware it exists. Canon just put old passed over Sony 20mp sensors in their non 1" compacts and a dusty old JPEG engine and they will always sell whatever I suppose.

Wow, just a bunch of snobby people in this comment section. Instead of bitching about everything you should be appreciative of the technology that is now available to you. I began photography in the late 90s. I remember getting a brand new camera and being blown away by 5 mega pixel camera/lens. Now we have 30+ megapixel cameras with amazing autofocus for really affordable pricing. Yet, everybody is negative and just complains about what features and specs werent added to the cameras & lenses instead of simply appreciating all of the positives and what you do get for your $.
    Entitled, unappreciative people smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

if no one is bitching about bad products, we would still have 5Mpx... it is called progress.
Canon has brand new mount with amazing full frame lenses and make very mediocre APSC kit lens for +1000$ cameras... especially when you are basically cutting off the M mount system, give at least a good reason to give the middle finger to all clients who bought into this dying system... just plain disrespectful.

Dropping 3mm from the wide compared to the EF-M lens is a really odd choice by Canon, though visually it looks nice.

It's way more ugly compared to the EF-M lenses, that small lens on that large mount just makes it awkward

Canon has just made the world’s first ever, the ugliest looking lens that has smaller barrel than the mount ring. What a disappointment!

All RF-S lens are going to look like that - fat bottomed ugly. The RF mount is way to big for the apsc lenses.

Wish they would invest more on the M system. This just looks like Frankenstein-ish.

Worse focal length and worse aperture than the ef-m kit lens. Do better canon....
