  • This is a Quick video on how to convert the cheap 24BYJ-48 geared stepper motors from Unipolar to Bipolar.
    This is done to give them more torque and make them easyer to drive with standard drivers.

    Thanks, Like many, I did that too. To put the the blue cover back again, I also removed the small clips, added a bubble of hot glue on top of the circuit board and pressed the cover back into its original position while the glue was still hot. (btw, make sure that no glue gets to the gears). This also makes all the 4 (thin) wire connections on the board more solid. Exchanging the 2 middle wires in the connector makes it excellent to connect to the output pins (soldered on) a DRV88 H-bridge driver. The latter works fine with the now bipolar BYJ28, make sure to supply power to the DRV8833 from a dedicated power supply, not from a (in my case ESP32) microcontroller pin. I simply cut the red wire, because desoldering it might also affect(burn the isolation) the other surrounding solder joints.

    Is it totally necessary to remove red wire? We can just swap the red wire after scoring on pcb?? Like red is dummy placed in last??

      no you don't have to remove it. It's just, when I already have it open it is not much to desolder the cable. But yea clipping it or just not using it is enough ;)

    Hi,
    I modified a 28BYJ-48 to bipolar as You have shown in this Video
    but now i connected the motor to an CNC shield and its just making a sharp sound and its not moving
    Do You have an idea what i've had done wrong? Please Help, thanks

      there are some things that can be wrong. Most of the time the coils/cables are in the wrong order. You can use a multi-meter and check for continuity. If there is continuity, than the two leads belong together. Other than that it can be the motor driver, (maybe not enough current [changeable with the potentiometer]. And one important, these steppers are not very fast so it might be that you try to drive them to fast ;)

      @@MakenModify my problem was the Order of the cables. Now it is working.
      Thanks

    Hi, I'm trying to run a 28BYJ-48 Stepper Motor + Pilot ULN2003. I make a montage to rotate a sculpture. The engine lacks a bit of power to rotate my room passing in bipolar I have more power in the engine? thank you in advance

      The bipolar motor has more torque. You can also drive these motors with a bit higher voltage to get more torque, but that might reduce the lifespan of the motor.

    and what is after bipolar change angle step?

    • @MakenModify
      @MakenModify  7 лет назад

      it does not effect the step angle or steps per rev ;)
