  • Yep, it's one of the first tunes I wrote on gurdy and now I'm playing it on my new Catnip P that Radosław has delivered to me (hey, I made a little rhyme there - go team!). The Catnip P has built-in three-channel electronics - each pair of strings has a separate piezo pickup, which allows you to record the signal from each pickup on a separate track. I'm plugged into a Fishman Loudbox and using the pickups in parallel for the trompette and melody.

    That place looks awfully familiar! Great song, by the way. We use to hear that one being practiced all the time in Texas!

    I have wanted one of these since I was a little kid. I hadn’t heard one played without the buzzier sound before- the tone is this without that more aggressive buzz sound is so beautiful it’s mesmerizing. The sounds remind of uilleann pipes which are my most favorite sound. This tune is so pretty:) fits you well. Thank you for sharing

      Thanks. I think both can work (buzz / no buzz) but obviously it's got to be done well!

      @@noelle-beaudin I love the buzz sound as well which is what first peaked my interest in having one:)))) but this sound is new to me and hits me in another way that I adore as well:) if I could somehow send you a melody that I wrote, would you play it for me on your gurdy?

      @@pookievanderbilt6889 I can't make any promises as to when I can do it, as I already have some other things I'm working on, but yeah sure shoot it on over to me via email.

    The gurdy that I own is Catnip's first model and it's nice to see and hear how Radosław has developed his further models. The crank is a lot better in terms of shape (why was the knob... ball shaped... O_O), that being said, I haven't changed mine and am still using it :D So the previous one is playable too. BTW The tune is awesome!!

    How would you say this model compares to the B in terms of sound/function? Also, this comes with G4/C4 standard melody strings correct? I'm curious if it would be possible to change the strings to a thicker gauge and do G3/C3? I'm interested in the gurdy and trying to find a solid instrument to start with (likely for use in a folk-metal type context). This one seems like a really good value compared to the Saphona which also looks nice but is more expensive and has a long wait time. I would appreciate any info. Great playing btw!!!

      The melody strings are G3 and C3, and it comes with a C2 drone (which works amazingly well, but I've switched it out to a C3 drone because it works better for my compositions). You would probably really like that C2 drone as it works great, especially compared to some other instruments I have tried with lower drones that do not resonate as well. I have to say the best thing about it is the ease of amplification. It's also a super solidly built instrument and it just plain works. For the money I think it's hands down a winner. Another geat thing is just Radosław himself - he is funny, articulate, and always willing to help with any issues you may have. I like my Catnip B, but for live performance I think the Catnip P is a great investment - also the Catnip P has two trompettes (g and c and they - like the drones - have capos) instead of a C trompette and a G mouche (the bane of my existence) and no capos.

      @@noelle-beaudin Thank you so much for the valuable information! On his site it said the melody came G4/C4, which is why I asked. One last question, do the melody strings also have a capo?

    • @noelle-beaudin
      @noelle-beaudin  19 дней назад +1

      Yes, the melody strings have an excellent "capo" key lock system. It's fantastic and locks in place. I'll also tell Radosław to fix the website, it's def a G3/C3!
