That looks like a really light weight solution for the bedroom Olly. I always like watching your crafty videos. The end product here had a few mods along the way but in the main a good purchase I'd say. You said it was up to standard so you sanded it but hey can't win them all. Good going. Mark
I used a hammer to lightly tap the tubes down far enough so that the screw reaches the female bit. This was the most difficult part for me. Make sure the two holes are on the inside of the frame, and also drilled on the sam piece of wood when viewing from inside. Hope this helps
Hi, I've never seen bed slats in that size. Ikea only sell them in singles. I imagine it offers better support for two people, rather than just supporting the larger mattress. I hope this helps.
@@NerdyScotsman I think it's worth it. Last time I looked, it was no longer available on Ikea's UK site. I wouldn't trust anything chipboard or MDF as much as this.

Hello, I am interested in buying the single Neiden bed from IKEA but I want to make it less wide (from 90 to 70 centimeter) because the spare bedroom is very small. Do you think that's a good possibility? Furthermore I want to make it higher to make more storage space.
Yes, I live in the Netherlands and they sell both 80 centimetres and less common the 70 centimetres wide and regular 200 length. It's fine tot kids and you make sure the adults sleeping over won't stay too long.
Interesting. If you did cut the rails down, I think you have to be able to accurately redrill the holes for the screws and dowels. I hope that makes sense.
Praise be, I'm about to get this bed today and wouldn't have the confidence to without this video. Can I ask what glue/kind of glue you used at around the 2:40 mark? Cheers!
Thank you for your comment. I hope your own bed assembly goes well. Glue isn't at all necessary but I just used a basic white PVA glue for wood. If you wanted to use glue, something like a yellow glue would also be fine. Good luck and all the best.
Thanks for your comment. Are you referring to the spare wooden dowels? I think they're supposed to hold the slats in place and stop them from sliding around.
Interesting. Are you sure it's the slats and not the bed frame? I've not experienced this myself. I'd make sure they're the right way up - should be high in the middle on the top side. I hope this helps.
Hi Steve, I would estimate it's about 6ft or 1.8m, as that's roughly the length of the bed. I can't be certain as the item has disappeared from Ikea's UK website. But I hope this helps. It should go in the back of a car with the rear seats folded down.
Thanks so much for this. Bought the frame from some college kid for $30. Oops. Forgot to show me what size screws went to where? Some really long ones have blue painted on the bottom. Not sure what goes where. Help
Hi Olly, thanks for sharing the video. I will be tasked with building this bed next week but I'm a DIY newbie. If I have an electric drill and a hammer is that everything I need? Thanks in advance
Hi Tanya, thanks for your comment. It's possible you don't need a drill. Ikea usually supply allthe tools you need but the tools are very small and I just find it easier to use my power tools. I hope this helps and best of luck with it.
I am still very happy with this frame. Sometimes it makes a loud 'click' noise but I don't move around much in bed. I don't think glue is essential. Most of my frame is not glued as I need to be able to take it apart each time I move (I live in rented accommodation).
Well for £60 it's a miracle but it still looks flimsy to me! You did a good job improving the finish - I don't know how you can bear not having a workshop (belt sander on the carpet...) Thanks for posting, an enjoyable view.
Thanks for watching, Steve. I do struggle without a workshop... I sometimes create jobs like this in an effort to scratch that itch! ;-) Time will tell how long it lasts. At the very least, I have the slats and fixings for a more substantial future frame.

They don't sell 120 wide versions sadly, I have a 120 and a 90 width mattress and I like to use both, the 90 wide neiden would be great for the smaller mattress but couldn't use the bigger mattress then.
Hi, it's been good for me so far. I've had no trouble with it. Although, as a single person, I haven't tested it 'rigorously'...! Thanks for your comment.
Ikea supply everything you need and the instructions are good enough. I found it easier to use a power tool to drive the screws in, rather than the tiny allen key they provide. I hope this helps. You don't need to sand everything as I did. I'm just very particular about things. ;-)
Can't see that bed taking some serious action Olly;-) Looks very insubstantial. When I moved into my decrepit cottage several years ago I spent most of my resources on renovation so I used eight clean wooden pallets readily available and just screwed them together to make a very strong platform bed...temporarily. A coffee table soon followed.IKEA has its place for some things but you a very capable and talented woodworker!!!
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Well, my previous bed didn't receive much action either... Sadly. :-/ If it does fail at any point, I have ideas on how it can be reinforced. I'm not the biggest fan of Ikea and will avoid buying anything not made from pine. But currently without a workshop (still...), it almost seems like a viable option. Thanks for your kind words. :-)
Thank you for this video! Can you tell me the length of the slat on each side? I bought this bed frame without the slats due to a slat shortage. I am trying to get wood cut at Home Depot today. Thanks!
I made the same mistake with the middle beam.... Fuuuuucccckkkkk! Why can't they just make it simple!!?? Nice bed, shitty instructions. Thanks for your help it was better than any other vids put up! Cheers mate!!
4 hours assembly ... .that's indeed quite a long time. Well... I spent ca. 50 minutes and I am already 80% done I would say....includingthe interruptins of my son who is a great adviser when it comes to construction. But maybe .... I should rather call it playing. So this delays me always a bit. But it is worth the fun.
okay mate, get ready for the most weirdly specific question you'll ever be asked can i ask for the dimensions of the NEIDEN bed's legs please? I'm gonna need to use risers to make the bed a bit taller, and I want to make sure that the bed's legs will actually fit in them. If you can get back to me on this then you'll genuinely have saved my freakin' life lmao!

Hey Olly, great and helpful vid! What's the power tool you used instead of the Allen key called? Thanks for the help!!
Thank you! It's an impact driver but you could use any cordless drill with the correct screwdriver fitting. I hope this helps.
Hi. Is that bed sturdy and durable? Planning to buy one soon. :-)
Hi, it's been good for me so far. I've had no trouble with it. Although, as a single person, I haven't tested it 'rigorously'...!
Thanks for your comment.
@@OllyParryJones Thank you for your reply. 😊
Do I need any additional tools and products to assemble this? This looks complicated and quite a task!
Ikea supply everything you need and the instructions are good enough. I found it easier to use a power tool to drive the screws in, rather than the tiny allen key they provide.
I hope this helps. You don't need to sand everything as I did. I'm just very particular about things. ;-)
Ikea built mine wrong so upset
Already spent 2 hours in it and at the last bit we hit a road block smh
I'd love to see more videos on how to reinforce it!
I'm not willing to do anything right now as I really don't feel it needs it. But a year or so down the line, who knows. ;-)
that's even better if you don't feel like it doesn't need reinforcement :)
Assembling one just now😢
I hope it went well.
@@OllyParryJones really well nice frame
Thank you for this video! Can you tell me the length of the slat on each side? I bought this bed frame without the slats due to a slat shortage. I am trying to get wood cut at Home Depot today. Thanks!
Great video
Its nice one ❤️❤️ which size is this ??
This is the double bed frame.
Were the slats included? or did you buy them separately?
These slats were included with the bed frame. They're exactly the same as the ones Ikea sell separately.
Thanks for your question.
Well at least you have such tools 😅 But at least I can now say I had a good arm workout 💪🏽💪🏽
@Oily: the tack, tack, tack of the cordless drill could be avoided by choosing a higher torque. Normally it should not do this.
From memory, I was using an impact driver and not a drill/driver with a clutch. That may explain the noise you describe.
I made the same mistake with the middle beam.... Fuuuuucccckkkkk! Why can't they just make it simple!!?? Nice bed, shitty instructions. Thanks for your help it was better than any other vids put up! Cheers mate!!
Thanks very much for watching. Glad to know I'm not the only one to have made that mistake! All the best.
He does not explain steps to follow for people steps, he just shows how handy he is, show up
Who are you talking to?
4 hours assembly ... .that's indeed quite a long time. Well... I spent ca. 50 minutes and I am already 80% done I would say....includingthe interruptins of my son who is a great adviser when it comes to construction. But maybe .... I should rather call it playing. So this delays me always a bit. But it is worth the fun.
Glad to hear you're doing well with the assembly and I hope it serves you well. All the best.
@@OllyParryJones Yes - bed works. Our son sleeps well in it.
Nice video Olly! Thanks for sharing it with us.😎👍JP
Thank you, JP and thanks for watching. :-) I'll try to have another video up soon.
You're very welcome Olly! 😎
okay mate, get ready for the most weirdly specific question you'll ever be asked
can i ask for the dimensions of the NEIDEN bed's legs please? I'm gonna need to use risers to make the bed a bit taller, and I want to make sure that the bed's legs will actually fit in them.
If you can get back to me on this then you'll genuinely have saved my freakin' life lmao!
I'm so sorry that I missed your comment. Hopefully you've got this sorted by now but I think they're about 69mm x 20mm.
Wellp, I don't want the frame anymore. Thanks for the heads up! lol
You're welcome, I guess. Thanks for watching.
I did't buy the Luroy when I bought the frame. My bed just went through the center of the frame.
So, does your mattress just sit comfortably on or inside the frame?
Barrell nuts are an absolute joke. Everything else is easy apart from the bit. Total shithouse of a desigb
Perhaps not a complete shithouse of a design if the rest is easy... Maybe just those nuts.
whats wrong with the bed frame O_O why ppl hating on this bed frame LOl
I've no idea! I'm still very happy with mine. :-)
This was super helpful!! Thank you so much :)
I'm glad to hear it! You're welcome and thanks for watching.
