Saludos
P. Mauriat sounds more even throughout... but there is something about the Selmer that sounds more "saxy" pun intended. It just sounds warmer, not perfect, not as clinical. P. Mauriat is a pretty great horn... but side by side the Selmer has a little something special that the P. Mauriat does not.
I love them both; Selmer is darker, smokier, stuffier...Mauriat is brighter, but has a more raspy, dirty bottom...love them both for different reasons.
I fell in love with P.Mauriat almost by accident...I was going to play test a Yamaha 62 Alto since I already had the 62 Tenor...long story short, the salesman had some P. Mauriats newly in so they gave me one to play...loved it so much I bought it nearly on the spot. Tax money well spent. Now I almost want to trade my 62 Tenor...I said almost. P. Mauriac re-ignited my love for the alto Sax.
Very nice tape editing. Excellent switching, nice playing too. Thought the Mauriat sounded slightly brighter (which I prefer). I think the MkVI have a slightly dull sound (mine has, 1956). I use a 54-year-old s/s Berg Larsen 110/2 M as it gives a nice edgy tone - anything from hard rock to Getz.
I have both and I don't play the selmer anymore not because it's not good, use because the mauriat is close enough and the difference is so minimal! I've gotten over that horn snobbery! Good working order is way more important to me! In fact that is why I've retired the mk6, it needs a complete restoration!
Gracias. por esta fenomenal interpretación, los dos saxos son una joya, yo poseo un p. mauriat tenor, pero no llego a tu sonido, ni queriendo. Me puedes dar algún consejo? Gracias.

if this type of test would be done "double blind" I doubt that the selmer is the obvious winner. There is a lot of what is considered "theoretical load of perception" Cheers!

Branding. I prefer the P Mauriat. The Selmer Paris brand is stronger. Like what Apple is to computers.. Not necessarily "better". Sound is subjective. Question is can we get past the fact that one is made in Taiwan? Which isn't China.. But being so close... Also, Selmer-Pasris' MK6 is a "status symbol. Especially for any Saxophonist who makes RUclips videos. Almost all of them NEED to mention they used to own or played a MK6 for 10 years. So it makes them look like "they're good". As they must be because they own a Selmer-Pasris right? Did Charlie Parker start off on a MK6? After 10 years of becoming "known"? Did he ever own a MK6??? I say get the sax that sounds good to our OWN ears using the "right" mouth piece/reed...Nerds get too hung up on the gear more than actual ability/talent/musicality.
This Selmer sustains a singing quality. where as this Mauriat drops off. One other thing is that Mauriat has terrible quality control and they do not honor their guarantee. Neither horn in this test sound good.
P. Mauriat is a "rat brand", that has zero legacy of sound. It imposes itself not with true legacy and really hard work, but with manufacturing capabilities of cutting brass, then cleverly marketing blatant copying and stealing of intellectual property from companies such as Selmer and Yamaha, to build their own "little niche".
@@djtroublesome3749 Remove wax from your ears and you'll hear better. All reference and legacy sound comes from artists and albums that represent saxophone sound at it best. 2 of the best sounding saxophones on the market, being a P Mauriat player i am biased but love the selmer just as much both exellent
Selmer is the winner here, IMHO.
As much as I love the edge in the sound of the P. Mauriat, the Selmer really sings

Selmer has more mid pronounced frequencies, low to high mids.

Both great sounding horns.
I'm a Selmer and Buescher but the Mauriat sounds good. I love my 1929 Buescher, 1945 Tophat and 1963 Buescher- Selmer.
Selmer = wetter -- life lived -- flowy frothy -- bronzy silver confidence -- forward stepping -- deliciousness lustfulness
P.Mauriat = tight froth - brighter notes - punctual and on time; delineated -- almond blonde highlights -- laidback demeanor but upfront attitude
Selmer has me.
They both sound great.
Solomon Saxophone is still on surpassed the others are good but some are still the best. Thank you Bill - UK
Very nice both horns 😃

Have you tried a BL 110/0? How does it compare to your 110/2?
Its not a Mark VI its a super action 80 series II

Wow, nice sound on both. Otherwise, I would say, I don't want a shiny-looking sax. I like the matte look of the P Mauriat. Nice playing here.
I like them both. For the money I'd go with the RDX. I played a Series II tenor for year and never really loved the horn.
The selmer has a more centered sound. More focused. Both sound great but a little pitchy on those higher notes.

I wonder more about which mouthpiece that is. I like it.
Seems i already asked that question months ago. How funny
I liked the sound of Mauriat but the Selmer had a smoother tone to me.
Selmer lo máximo!!!
Selmer, only Selmer!!!!
Great sound on both! What mouthpiece are you using?
I need to know too!
Depending on mouth piece though…which one makes the most money performing 🎶🎵🎶🎷
excellent
Nice Marketing
New horn have a more fat sound on low register and more flyable and soft in 2 octave.
What i want to know is what mouthpiece was used?
if there is a difference I am deaf the reed determines a lot the color of the sound
Very good
Selmer... better core and open sounding
Selmer sem dúvidas!

Com a mesma pessoa tocando os dois ao ouvir eles são otimos.
The saxophone sounds like saxophone in Selmer, from there the others
Selmer. Maybe Maurit has some better tone in the higher sidekey notes...
Mark vi hands down.
Selmer has a clearer tone with richer overtones with a front centre to the core. Mauriat sounds slightly hollow, lacking in depth.
Super 👌🎷🎷
kkk great ,,test one Phil barone tenor vintage x Selmer reference
Same mouthpiece on both horns? That would be the only way for a fair comparison.
Woah, wait.... at the end, which horn was it that was so out of tune? Or was it just the dreaded C#?
Joe Blankenship See for me, it’s always Middle D dreaded key!
@@jakewilliams8104
That D for me is always a problem with the volume.
Selmer. More open and has a little edge to it
Which model is the PM?
This comparison is unfair, you can hear the high pitch of the video is weaken when it comes to pmauriat
what

I don't know why the P.Mauriat has that buzzy sound. Their altos also sound buzzy it is not bad sounding but I prefer the smoother sounding selmer
