  • So I've now run the course on printing my astrophotography pictures with canvas, metal, and acrylic prints. Is there any anything else to try?

    On Glass, they are even better and seem to give a lot more Depth.
    I landed here from visiting Dylan Odonnell's RUclips channel and so I had to also subscribe, Awesome print, by the way.

    I like glossy too and the starless effect is cool. You could try to attach a hanging wire on the back for a single wall nail or drill out a hole in the wood if you are careful.

    • @ChucksAstrophotography
      @ChucksAstrophotography  5 лет назад

      Thanks Starman, but that's my point, why should I have to do anything? Just ship the picture with a middle hole already there and don't inconvenience the customers.

  • @tjh44961
    @tjh44961 5 лет назад +1

    All three of those are beautiful prints, Chuck. Why don't you just put a sawtooth hanger on the wood block, rather than using the key slots? Then you can hang it from a single point.

    • @ChucksAstrophotography
      @ChucksAstrophotography  5 лет назад

      Thanks Tom, I do have saw tooth hangers that I bought for this very reason, but I suppose it goes back to what I was saying about being inconvenienced. If I give some pictures away, am I going to give them saw tooth hangers as well. I'm just saying it would be nice if it were shipped to support one nail. I'm fussy, I want it ready to go, no fuss - no muss.

    From what I have read, 300 dpi can be obtained on both metal and acrylic. 150 to 300 is recommended for both.

    The Acrylic is looking really nice, I like the glossy finish and also the colors seem to deliver as I'm comparing your video to the picture you uploaded on astrobin. Do you prepare the picture before you send them for printing like brightening it up? I heard that astrophotos seem to be a bit dark as you print them on canvas...

      @@ChucksAstrophotography acrylic face mounted prints should be the highest res prints you can get. They are not printed on the acrylic sheet but on normal Metallic or glossy paper then face mounted to the acrylic sheet. You will get amazing results with a 1/4 sheet acrylic. The smudges come from bad laminating (the sheet was dirty of the print wasn't cleaned properly)
      There's a guy called Peter Lik (landscape photographer) check out his galleries all over the country and he sells acrylic face mounted prints for a lot, more then what you are thinking (~$20k per print)
      A good acrylic face mounted print is expensive -artbeatstudios.com is really good but it will cost $200+ depending on the size.

    • @ChucksAstrophotography
      @ChucksAstrophotography  5 лет назад

      Right, glare does represent a challenge - but I can't resist the eye candy of seeing glossy astro pics. The resolution on my latest one, the Cygnus Wall was 3554x2426. No skunks yet. I'm surprised.
