    This is one of the reasons MJ is underrated as a dribbler, he was so efficient in dribbling and wasted no movements which resulted in buckets. That in itself is a great indicator of someone who's great at dribbling.

    This is the best channel that actually analyzes kyries past 2 games. All other channels just say kyrie needs to make these shots or simply just disrespects him as a player. But this is the first channel that actually offers up a valuable solution that is backed by evidence. I agree 100% that the amount of dribble moves he is taking is causing him to be gassed before he shoots. I feel like kyrie is trying to shift defenders more than get to where he needs to be. That approach generally works for majority of teams and players but the Celtics have great defenders that don’t bite on shifty moves. Since he feels the need to shift his defenders he expends more energy really trying to sell and exaggerate the dribble moves causing him to miss short.

    1. In those AI examples: AI's points are coming primarily off of transition, off the ball, or by taking off balance shots. Speed, quickness, cutting off the ball to get open shots and the ability to make off balance, difficult, shots consistently is what makes AI, AI. Your point about Kyrie missing short on his jumpshots is because after he gets into his dribble package , he raises up into his shot off balance and doesnt jump straight up in the air but jumps in a direction away from the defender to avoid being blocked which causes his shot to come up short. Kyrie is not AI where he can take and hit off balance shots with consistency. He is not scoring his points in transition either like AI but mainly off of isolation in the half court. There is no off the ball, pick and pop for Kyrie where his teammates feed him the rock like Steph Curry on the warriors. Kyrie is ball dominant and the main ball handler bringing the ball up court.Kyrie cant be AI as he doesnt have the personnel or the skillset. 2.With that addressed, The issue is not Kyrie over dribbling: kyries has to overdribble somewhat to compensate for his size and fake out the defenders as hes playing against larger defenders. 3. The issue is Kyries inability to efficiently create space from the larger defender when in isolation to get his shot off. The ball screens are supposed to help with that but theyre ineffective so it just pushes them further into the shot clock forcing the Mavs to have to throw up a shot and pray. All Kyrie has to do is stop being so one dimensional with the half court isolation and ball dominance.Incorporate more off the ball movement , let his team mates set him up and push the ball in transition to keep the defense honest. Half court isolations off of sh*tty ball screens turns the game 1v1 with Kyrie on an island. Too much Kyrie and Luka reliance for offensive production. The rest of the team has to get involved. Its easy for the defense to key off on Luka and kyrie and force the rest of the team to beat you. Same thing applies to Luka. Mavs are getting beat through their role players coming up short. Not Kyrie and Luka.

Usually if your 1st or 2nd move does not work, its better to pass it, all that dribbling just allows the defense to reset behind the guy guarding you as well, which makes it harder. Swinging the ball, then making a quick decisive move or shooting seems most effective.

    The only thing Kyrie needed to do is 1. Stop turning the ball over with trying to back down the Celtics bc they poked the ball from him 5+ times alone off that. 2. The mavs needed to move him off ball and get him off ball looks. What makes Kyrie great is he doesn’t need the ball to score, he can cut back door or knock down jumpers off the ball. The mavs have yet to utilize that since he’s been there. They have him sitting in a corner whenever Luka is on the court. 3. The mavs need an actual playbook because I can guarantee anybody who watches the moves know that whenever Luka is on the court everybody is going to the corner except for gafford, lively, djj, or pj to set him a screen for either a step back 3, lob, ir a kick out. That isn’t efficient basketball at all and it’s predictable. No off ball plays for Kyrie or Luka or anybody for that matter. Everybody is just a spot up shooter waiting for Luka to pass the ball with 8 seconds left on the clock.

    Love your analysis! The summary at the end of him dribbling too much and not having enough legs later on in the game is what I thought about as well. There was a comparison on how many dribbles curry averages a game vs kyrie and its vastly lower understandably their games are not the same. Overall when playing an elite defensive team like Boston you have to conserve your energy in order to get the shot off over them. Be decisive and simplify the moves like AI

    Actually it is very simple. Kyrie drives when he's allowed to go right, but he dribbles when the defenders steer him to his left. It's not like the guy who made this video has found out sth neither Kyrie nor all NBA coaches already know.

    This day and age the on ball guys dribble too much point blank period. They've done 8 to 10 dribbles before they've even made one move to the rim. Don't forget, due to dribbling too much the offensive guys don't move. So the simplicity of fundamental bball gets lost. He would be able to do a jab step if the spacing is/was there...from others being involved.

    The ball handler is responsible for running his defender into the screen. It is not the screeners fault for spacing on a screen. The dribnler should come off a screen rubbing his shoulder against screener and eliminating that space for the defender to pass through.

    What you're saying is true. But you have to consider AI was in his prime and he was one of the fastest players in the league kairi is not that but you have to consider AI was in his prime and he was one of the fastest players in the league. And that's why he didn't age so gracefully because he couldn't move as fast. The reason why he was able to beat the defenders with less moves was because of his speed. For him to get a bucket he has to work for it. This Leads to him having a more complicated game. If he was 6'6 he would still be at the top of his game maybe even better. This is the reason why LeBron has aged so gracefully because he's big and still has a bit of Athleticism. What Irving needs to add to his game is off ball movement now he's okay at it. But he needs to make it elite. To make defenders work harder

    • @joezamzu
      @joezamzu 3 месяца назад +1

      You also have to remember the defense that Kyrie is going through. Him and Luka are playing 2 v 4. This makes a harder for him because he's getting tired but they don't need to get tired since they have two bodies they can put on it or three. That's why if you play like a defender like Luke dort 20 minutes, on the best player he's gonna defend like never before. Because to play defense you need energy and you can't have energy if you're playing 41 minutes a night

    • @joezamzu
      @joezamzu 3 месяца назад

      Also remember that shiftiness adds more ways you can score the reason why the Dallas mavericks are lost. Is because I can't score your many other ways it's either Luca kicking it out to the corner or him creating a shot same with Kyrie. Dump throwing lobs. corner three's. Boston has so many ways they can score that they don't need to worry about offense. They only focus on defense.

    Things this video doesnt take into account:
    How much *defensive SCHEMES* have improved
    How much defensive at the *point guard position* has improved
    The fact that the mavericks likely didnt have a *TRUE expectation* to make the finals and likely *arent in shape* for such a deep playoff run, leaving them with only *two people who can score playing against a top 3 rated defense*
    The mavericks play charts, which are likely drawn up for Kyrie to do *exactly what he's doing.* The reason it doesnt work is because the celtics are strong defensively against any form of offense outside of perimeter-heavy play, completely negating the ability to get into motion off a quick 1-2 dribble unless youre coming *down in transition, thanks to the acquisition of Jrue Holiday.*
    I think this video gets a lot correct but theres a lot its ignoring for it to work in a 1/1 ratio, mostly because the league is largely more competitive than when AI played. The only thing AI's era had was over-aggression. Not necessarily *FANTASTIC defenses.* Cooking in the isolation back then was MUCH easier than it is now n thats why PGs play off the PnR *way more now than they ever did.*
    Either way, good analysis! Just wanted to throw in my two-cents!

    Kyrie Irving does not have a problem on scoring on the Boston Celtics. He said it himself. He’s more focused on getting his team involved and getting them to play better. He already knows he can score on anybody his main focus for this season was to play better defense and get his teammates involved. He doesn’t have a problem with scoring.

    To me this seems like an issue with the entire Mavs offense. Luka and Kyrie dribble too much. Sometimes there will be sections of a game (especially when Luka is not in the game) where the mavs will play better defense and get more fast breaks, get into their offense quicker and where they just look smoother and they score easier, but it does not seem to last. I wish they would move away from the over dribbling type offense they tend to use, but I think it is partially based on Luka's play style, which I don't actually like all that much most of the time. I think he makes the game too hard by getting into the offense too slowly, having too little movement and too much relying on 1 on 1 basketball.

    I disagree. Kyrie is very short... he needs to do the moves he does because of his size. Players his size, who doesnt have the counters, moves, or dribbling ability that he has wont get very far. Its only been 2 games... people act like he hasnt been getting good looks, he just has trouble delivering or finishing.

    iverson is a lot more athletic than kyrie. that first step he has is so much more explosive, so it’s a lot easier for him not to use that many moves. kyrie is basically his size, not physical, and not as athletic. he’s a better shooter though. he needs a few dribbles in the half court to get enough space.
