    My coffee maker does work for descaling, but it does not brew coffee at all. It was just fine until I decided to descale it for the first time. After completing this procedure, it started not to work anymore, not brewing at all. Any help please?

    Hi, the Durgol product you’re using and that you linked says it’s only for steamer ovens and has completely different active ingredients and acids in it than the product made specifically for coffee makers and machines. I bought and used it under your guidance but I’m seeing it’s not recommended for coffee machines. Why do you recommend this and not the coffee maker descaler? I’m worried I’ve poured toxic chemicals typically used for steam ovens into something that I’ll need to drink from.

    • @MyApplianceGuide
      @MyApplianceGuide  Год назад

      Hi Evan. Thank you for your comment.
      Yes, the steamer descaler has different ingredients compared to the espresso or coffee maker one however, they are in such small doses that they are not harmful. Phosphoric acid is in small doses even used in food and drinks. In addition, it is safe to use for an oven and people would cook in this oven afterwards. The Swiss espresso descaler also has as an active ingredient an acid.
      We generally recommend the Swiss steamer one as we find it more versatile but you are more than welcome to use the Swiss espresso (if you have an automatic coffee machine or an espresso maker) or the universal descaler (if you have a drip coffee maker) from Durgol. All of them contain acids as active ingredients. The main thing is that we do not recommend to use descaler a or vinegar that are damaging to plastic as there are plastic tube in these appliances.

      Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not recommend to take it apart to clean the water tank. The best way would be to fill it with a bit of water and then hold the coffee maker upside down above a sink. Please make sure to remove the carafe before doing so.
      In general, please try to not have any coffee grounds go into the water tank as it might clog the pump.

    Hello - do you use the “descale” pressing both buttons function to do the 2 plain water rinses after descaling, or do you use the normal ‘on’ button for the rinsing?

    • @MyApplianceGuide

    How come a descale needs to happen every other week? All my top brand coffee makers can run for a couple months and take over 30 minutes to descale.
    This method seems to barely descale requiring you to descale every two weeks. It’s expensive and a waste of time.
    Unless mine is the only SMEG that requires it to be done twice a month... Would definitely not buy a smeg again if that’s the issue.

    Is there anyway to skip the descaling? Sometimes I do not have a descaled on hand and just rather make a pot anyways. It seems I can not override it.

    • @MyApplianceGuide
      @MyApplianceGuide  3 года назад

      Thank you for your question. In general, we do not recommend to skip the descaling as it is an important maintenance step for the appliance. Depending on the version, you may be able to skip the descaling process and still make coffee. The DCF01 does not allow you to skip the descaling, most of the DCF02 does allow you to skip the descaling process. However, if you are not able to override it and you don't have any descaler available, pretend to do a descale but only use water. This way the machine will think that you did descale it. However, please descale the unit with proper descaler as soon as possible so you can enjoy your beautiful SMEG appliance as long as possible.

    Why would you use a chemical to descale? Vinegar works just as well and it's food. Using a chemical means there will always be a chance of the chemical going into your next pots of coffee.. and into you. (even after running through 2 or 3 rinse carafes)

    • @MyApplianceGuide
      @MyApplianceGuide  4 года назад +7

      Vinegar doesn’t work as well so your appliance may fail over time ( ruclips.net/video/XFx3UmUvoYo/видео.html ) and also, vinegar is aggressive on plastic. So the more often you descale, the more the plastic inside your appliance will start to deteriorate/ get bridle. So yes, the descaler is a chemical but it will be rinsed out properly during the descaling process, it does a detailed job at descaling it, and it doesn’t damage your appliance. Vinegar will damage the plastic which you will consume over time in your coffee, espresso, etc. and your appliance will more likely fail as vinegar doesn’t work as well as a proper descaler.
