  • I needed to replace my Anita's brown paint that I can no longer purchase at Hobby Lobby. I am replacing it for now with Apple Barrel paint. I'll also share with you something new I am trying, making faux wood swatches. I plan to write the base coat and top coat information on the back of each swatch for easy reference later.

Fascinating, I love colour swatching, it is so much fun creating new colour combinations to use. I really liked the black and melting chocolate washes.

What a great idea to do floor swatches. I got some new acrylic paints for Christmas and this it just the project to get me more familiar with them.
I also love to see the combinations you use to mimic wood/flooring.
    Thanks for sharing.

Color actually fascinates me! So this was actually very interesting and informative. I need to start watering down my paints like you do. I use very different colors to blend and one of my favorite stone looks was when purple was mixed with a medium brown and then a darker brown. Nice swatches & video! Have a great day & looks like you will have fun with the paints!!!

I am glad you found the video helpful! I will have to try the purple and browns. I read that someone who worked for Disney I think said they mix purple into all their paint I think. I can’t remember why though lol.

Fascinating experiment. Referring to the comment about Anita's paint now being Crafters, I have a few colors in that brand and overall, it is a nice paint, however, I swear by FolkArt paint. It is a thicker and creamery paint and covers in one coat.

That's good to know, thanks for sharing! I don’t have a lot of experience with folkart. I’ll have to pick up a few bottles and give them a try.

So important to know what other paint brands will work with the colours you like, especially when you use the same palette so much in projects (nothing worse than suddenly not being able to match anything anymore in the middle of a big project). I think a lot of your viewers will find videos like this incredibly helpful. When I used to teach childrens art classes years ago, we got the kids to keep an art journal with all their colour theory swatches in it so they could always refer back to it later, this is quite similar with your swatches.

      @Lauras-tinyview  Месяц назад

That’s so cool Nessie, I didn’t know you used to be an art teacher. Art was always my favorite class as a child. I agree, it’s important to have that reference. I like the journal idea too. Sometimes I’ve had to refer back to a video of mine to remember what paints I used to get certain wood tones. 😆

I enjoyed watching the paint dry 😂
I searched for Anita’s acrylic paint and I found this info,
(Anita's acrylic paint has been rebranded as Crafter's Collection)

You are so lucky in the USA with your craft supplies, we here in the UK really struggle to find similar products and I, for one, tend to buy imports of I can find them but they do tend to be the times the price however it's usually worth it ❤️ please keep doing what you are doing, you have inspired me so much!

I didn’t know that about crafting supplies in the UK. I’m sorry to hear that. Is it just certain brands or craft supplies in general? I am so happy to hear my videos have inspired you!

@Lauras-tinyview it's basically certain brands, our supply of the cheaper apple barrel type paint options is terribly weak and very limited, as for mod podge, it's usually rather expensive as well. Our shops tend to the more artistic type of supplies such as watercolour and oil paints. Affordable acrylic paint is very low pigment and basically kids paint, the better quality is around £3 ($4) a tube

It's a haul even if it isn't a lot of items. You have come up with some very cool colors! It is fun to just take paint, mix it and see what happens. I have a lot of the same colors you have but haven't tried a lot of them together yet. Now, I just want to go play with my paint and see what I can come up with!

Ara Bentley has a 'thing' for brown paint too Laura, lol❤ Labelling paint with what they were used for is a good idea because I always forget! I am going to do this to work out my own wood tones and, I also have a box of Vallejo Inks that I would like to try as washes over them too. Its really handy writing down what you used.

I have never heard of those inks before. I need to look them up. The swatches will be so helpful now. Before I had to re-watch my videos to see what paints I used. 😆 Greens are actually my very favorite color. 💚💚💚

My personal belief is that "more than two" is a haul lol 😂. Apple Barrel Tuscan Red will give you the depth and richness you're looking for. I was going to tell you about Golden Sunset but you've already discovered it🤩! A really nice, deep, rich green without looking mostly black or dark pine is Apple Barrel English Ivy. Apple Barrel Light Mocha and Orange Sherbert are good for bases or washes. Raw Sienna, from Ceramcoat a Hobby Lobby brand, is softer and less orange than Burnt Sienna. It's very warm and inviting and mixes well. It's not just the Hobby Lobby close to you that no longer carries Anita's brand paint 😢, it's ALL of them. I have searched online for it and can't find it anywhere. It's a Rust-Oleum brand paint and I don't know if they're going to stop producing it or if it's exclusive to Hobby Lobby and for whatever reason they don't want to carry it anymore. The brand replacing Anita's, Craft-smart, is also sold at Michaels and while I've bought a couple of colors, they don't have a large selection. Maybe the color selection varies by location 🤷‍♀️, I don't really know. I don't feel that it's a better quality paint than Anita's, but that's just my opinion. The colors you've chosen to replace the Anita's colors are very pretty and I think they're going to serve you well!!

Glad to hear two or more count as a haul. 😂 My six bottles of paint felt like a haul to me. 😁 Thanks for the paint tips!! I’ll definitely make a list of the ones you mentioned. I live in a big city with several Walmarts but they all seem to be picked over every time I go. So it’s hit or miss with finding the ones I might be looking for all in one place. I wonder if I could order them from the website? I tried Craft Smart paints years ago and didn’t care for them either. I ordered a set of Liquitex acrylics and I’m hoping that they’re more pigmented. I think it might be fun mixing my own colors. 😁

@@Lauras-tinyview I think that YOU could develop your own line of acrylic paints, and that's no joke🌟 and you have the perfect platform from which to develop, test, sample, and sell. Your channel has grown exponentially and I believe it's for more than one reason. I had thought about contacting Rust-Oleum and asking if there is a way to purchase Anita's besides Hobby Lobby, who tragically, horrifically, sadly, doesn't carry it anymore 😒😕🙁😭. (I'm being a little dramatic 🤏🏽 😂 but not much) I've never cared for Folk Art brand paint. I've found it to be chalky and lifeless when it dries. It seems to be a dryer, thicker paint already so maybe that has something to do with it. I've tried several different thinning mediums, including good ol water, and it (the paint) just doesn't play well with others 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️. So, for me, the performance of the paint doesn't equate to the price $$, which is already 2-3 times the price of other, better quality, brands. I do like the Ceramcoat brand at Hobby Lobby but their selection, at least the one closest to me, is really small. Oh! I completely forgot about The Dollar Tree! Have you tried their paint? It's not a bad paint at all. The color selection isn't stellar, but it's a decent quality paint that mixes well and doesn't have any weird "side effects" 😂 LOL when it's mixed with other brands. At $1.25 it's a decent, 'in-a-pinch', option. Oh, yes, before it slips my mind...again 😒🤦🏽‍♀️...I have a couple of items I've been wanting to send you. As I'm typing this, I'm trying to remember if I've looked to see if your address or P.O. box is listed anywhere in your channel info, and I can't. If it is, would you point me in the right direction, or if not, would you mind telling me? If you don't want the info to be public, and if you don't mind me having it, I'm leaving my email address. I want to tell you, again, how much you're appreciated and just how beautiful your work is. Thank you 🌟 kbpenny8@hotmail.com

To me, more than 2 is a haul...
Maybe explore using contrasting oak & black walnut...
