Synopsis: "The Monkey King: Demon City" was inspired by the Journey to the West. In the story, the Tang Monk was always alone when he traveled to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. As a lone man, he braved the dangers and hardships of the grueling journey. There was great righteousness in his heart; he worked hard to bring good to the world and to preserve all that was kind. Aside from the arduous journey, the real obstacle had always been testing his true heart. With light comes the shadow. When the boundaries between good and evil become blurred and when purity and beauty are trampled underfoot, even the most capable man on earth would be powerless and sink into despair. But there will always be brave souls who will kindle a light even in the darkest corners. Even when trapped in a hopeless place, they have never given up fighting. They are people who are willing to sacrifice their lives. With a weapon in hand and empathy in heart, that is when fighting can bring about hope.

Thanks for an enjoyable movie with great English subtitle. Pretty much every Chinese kid grew up with Monkey King adventures! My dad is in his 90's & still enjoy re-reading all the Shun Woo Kong stories he read as a child. We didn't have Mother Goose nor Huckleberry Finns, but we had Shun Woo Kong... Many Thanks again!

Probably one of the better adaptation. Great character/actors, decent story, great action and a lot of funny scenes.

這個版本非常好看，顛覆傳統對西遊記四個人物的刻板印象而且電影風格鼓勵凡事都有可以解決的一面，缺點的話，應該是把孫悟空拍得太帥了呀～

The hardest thing is, when you watch this after you going from one place new that you have spent time there and have love there. It just so hurtful to move on from someone or some home, but this movie told US that we should keep moving and laughing after all 😄

Journey to the West is always a classic novel . There are so many remade versions films and TV series.
Can I ask which one is the original,,?🙂 with that movie, journey to the west?coz many of it,but I don't see the main as the old movie before,,
