Lemme get this straight. You fired a decent coach that was being ADVISED by an unemployed coach. And then you hire the unemployed coach and think things are gonna change?! Delusional i tell you.
Doc Rivers was a great Head Coach for the 2008 Celtics. What he did there was awesome in that he brought together three All-Star players (one of them an MVP) and got them all to buy-in and be willing to sacrifice. Not a lot of Head Coaches can do that and it led to him winning a title. However, coaching that team didn't involve a lot of X's and O's. His players were generally able to do that for him and by Doc's own account towards the end of the season Rondo was often calling plays on offense, KG on defense. Remember that Rondo is probably one of the most gifted players in the NBA's history when it comes to basketball IQ (by accounts from many players and coaches). KG was a force on defense, arguably one of the best all-around defenders of all time. Beyond those two, the team was stacked with veteran stars and bench guys that knew how to play the game. Their Sixth Man had been a starter on a championship Miami team, to say nothing of the Truth and Ray Allen. With that roster, no coach would have had to do a lot of X's and O's and arguably probably would have alienated the players by being too involved. That was maybe one of the most talented/experienced rosters in modern NBA history from top to bottom. In all cases, being a 'good coach' is often dependent on the players and situation. Belichick was an abject failure in Cleveland, became a greatest of all time in New England with Brady and has now fallen from that lofty perch and was fired with Brady gone. I'm not saying that Brady made Belichick, but professional sports is about symbiosis. The detail-oriented, blunt criticism from Belichick (which alienated many players in Cleveland) worked when it was combined with Brady's buy-in to that culture and, with the buy-in from a team it produced one of the greatest powerhouses in modern sports. With Brady gone, it started to struggle and ended where it ended this year. The same may well be true for Doc. His style and personality were a perfect fit for a very talented team (and let's face it, no one wins a chip without a very talented team), but since then he hasn't found a group of players where his personality and style have the same fit and symbiosis. Sometimes a coach isn't great at X's and O's, but they are great at reaching players. This is where the old saying comes into play: a bad plan executed well is better than the best plan executed poorly. The coach might have poor gameplans, but the players are bought-in, play hard and execute that poor plan very well, which combines with talent to deliver victories. Conversely, a coach may be great at X's and O's, but if he has lost the team it is hard to win because the players aren't bought in.
This team needs the NBA All-Star break as soon as possible so the new coaching staff and the team can get accustomed to practicing and changing up schemes with familiarity because all this is being done on the Fly

I am from Serbia. In Europe, we always foul a player if we were leading by 3 points at the end of the game, so that they could not shoot for 3 points. That is rare in the NBA. Is there a rule that I don't know that a player can only foul on the opposite half of the court, or something. Because in every game in the NBA, the last possession is defended if you lead by 3 points, and the opposing team attacks from your half of the court.
You want time to run out because if you keep fouling. You stop the clock and give your team a chance to miss freethrows too if you keep fouling back and forth. Better to just play good defense and not let them get a 3 in the final seconds.
@@DFDubsports Nba loves highlights, clutch threes. That is main reason. That even affects defending team as they see it as a challenge. Rationally fouling is better strategy. In nba often team shoots 3 even when easy 2 is available for OT. They just want wining shot highlight.
Another thing I don't understand is why Dame didn't just shoot after his pump fake. He already got Malcolm Brogdon in the air. If he just took the shot after that it almost certainly would've been a shooting foul, Brogdon had his hand on Dame's waist. Regardless, no way in hell Brook should've taken that shot with some time left on the clock...
ill play devils advocate most coaches have the preseason to establish the identity this bucks team has had alot of turbulence change in roster multiple changes to the coaching. they are gonna be learning on the fly now. right now its still adrian griffins system all doc can do fpr this year is make tweaks to find whats working and what doesnt because if they ripped up the script on the middle of the season they'd be 3 weeks behind every team in the nba in terms of practices and learning the system. realistically the aim is to see how they start looking after the all-star break.
The bucks vs nuggets game on Monday was baffling. They’re down 6-9 pts for the last 6 minutes. With a minute to go they’re down 6. They decided to run plays that drive to the basket all the way until the game ended… they have Damian Lillard. Design some plays to get him open or just let him cook in that situation.
I tend to really under-value coaches in the NBA, especially for veteran teams. I don’t think any amount of coaching can overcome the defensive void left by Jrue Holiday, especially when you replace him with someone who is known to be a poor defender in Dame. Now I agree that Dame’s offensive skill is much, much higher than Jrue, but the problem is they are now in a position where they have to rely only on offense similar to the Pacers and that’s just not their identity. Their only shot now is if Dame can get more comfortable and get close to his Portland level.
What’s the difference between Doc Rivers and Mike Budenholzer? They both win a chip and haven’t won anything since. Why does Doc keep getting jobs when he’s known for blowing leads and late game situations?
If Doc Rivers fails in Milwaukee he's got to be done. I thought that in Philly too but eventually these teams have to stop falling for whatever he is selling them.
I hope they didn't hire Rivers for Xs and Os and adaptive coaching schemes...cause that guy ain't never been it. You hire him just for soundbites after the game.
Don't compare a rookie head coach to a notorious choke artist who has the most 3-1 leads blown in NBA Playoffs history, please. He didn't win in '08, the players won it for him.
Missing a free throw purposely is a way that’s easy for the offense to secure and put up for a put back is tougher than actually accurately making your free throws. Tf is Doc talking about
I feel like Middleton should of had the last possession to tie the game but since it was Dame first night being back after the trade he wants to have the ball but the Blazers knew that and doubled him causing him to pass to Lopez for the 3 pointer. It was a fun competitive game. Also I think Doc is a great coach but maybe he should start realizing his strategy aren’t winning rings and instead focusing mainly on the star players scoring he should get the whole team in rhythm for the best looks.
Just because i did something 10 years ago it doesnt mean i can still do it. Look at the nfl Bill Belichick was dominate for so many years and eventually his time was up. Im glad hes more focused on being a players coach but its not enough, its okay hes not as good as a coach anymore but the more and more yall give him an out and insist that he can do it but he cant. He could be good maybe as like a forwards coach but not a head coach
Those who think Doc is a great coach haven't seen him up close. He is a "name" that everyone is familiar with, but once he coaches YOUR team, you lose all respect for him.
Doc is depending on Giannis to: 1. Make the 1st free throw (66% shooter) 2. Intentionally miss the second in such an accurate manner (from a 66% shooter), that he gets his own rebound This logic makes absolutely ZERO sense 🤦🏻♂️💀💀
I don't get it. It's almost as if firing a 30-13 rookie coach mid-season to hire the guy your rejected in the original hiring process is a bad idea. Who could have possibly foreseen this might not be ideal...?

In recent years I’d say 60-70% of the time NBA coaches foul up 3
So basically European basketball is better and more fundamentally sound than NBA
You want time to run out because if you keep fouling. You stop the clock and give your team a chance to miss freethrows too if you keep fouling back and forth. Better to just play good defense and not let them get a 3 in the final seconds.
you absolutely do not want that what lmao@@DFDubsports
Doc will cry rivers after reading the comment section.
ill play devils advocate most coaches have the preseason to establish the identity this bucks team has had alot of turbulence change in roster multiple changes to the coaching. they are gonna be learning on the fly now. right now its still adrian griffins system all doc can do fpr this year is make tweaks to find whats working and what doesnt because if they ripped up the script on the middle of the season they'd be 3 weeks behind every team in the nba in terms of practices and learning the system. realistically the aim is to see how they start looking after the all-star break.
Yea…naw. Doc sucks. New season or not. The dude is ass.
“Would you tell Pop that?”
Like putting a retread on a sports car
I didn’t even know they fired Mike buldenhoser . Why would they do that. They won a chip with him
yeah that was bizarre. also two other chip winners got fired from LA and Toronto
i honestly think i can coach better than doc.
I don't know who you are or what the hell makes you think you can say something like that....
but yeah, you probably can.
Who decided that Lillard should inbound at the very end of a three point game to Iannis?
Wouldn’t matter anyways
vlada - WHO is "Iannis"?
@@jonhohensee3258 found the goofy
The bucks were losing close games and still lost that game because of Doc.
Giannis should’ve taken the ball out. Let dame shoot ft then miss the second for Giannis tip in smh
If Doc Rivers fails in Milwaukee he's got to be done. I thought that in Philly too but eventually these teams have to stop falling for whatever he is selling them.
While watching this video and to the part where Doc where he explained his train of thought got my jaw drop. Fire Doc now.
Doc 😢😢😢
Thought this was gonna be about the Bucks Jazz lol
🔥Doc 😂
I hope they didn't hire Rivers for Xs and Os and adaptive coaching schemes...cause that guy ain't never been it. You hire him just for soundbites after the game.
I BEGGED NOT TO HIRE THIS MAN
They don’t listen to you
this guy has never seen a sixers game with doc rivers coaching LOL
I was at this game and was really shocked at Giannis getting the ball from Dame with I think about 4 seconds left.
Coming from a Portland fan, even getting to this situation with our team is not a good look lol
Doc always been overrated , mans been riding that 08 championship forever . But get that money brotha 🤷🏽♂️
lol I remember if u get ur own rebound off the miss ft, that’s a call lol lol
Don't compare a rookie head coach to a notorious choke artist who has the most 3-1 leads blown in NBA Playoffs history, please. He didn't win in '08, the players won it for him.
It looks like Dame F’d up by giving up and taking the ball out himself, because he didn’t want to take a last second 1 footed 3 “in clutch time.”
Missing a free throw purposely is a way that’s easy for the offense to secure and put up for a put back is tougher than actually accurately making your free throws. Tf is Doc talking about
Now it’s become a coach’s game. Forgot the players 😆
Biggest mistake bucks did is hire doc rivers. Man lillard is just destined not to have a chip.
As a recent ex bucks fan… get used to this. The season is over. Cant stick around for this dumpster fire.
I feel like Middleton should of had the last possession to tie the game but since it was Dame first night being back after the trade he wants to have the ball but the Blazers knew that and doubled him causing him to pass to Lopez for the 3 pointer. It was a fun competitive game. Also I think Doc is a great coach but maybe he should start realizing his strategy aren’t winning rings and instead focusing mainly on the star players scoring he should get the whole team in rhythm for the best looks.
should've
Doc doing Doc things. Sigh.
How is Doc Rivers still getting hired?
Those who think Doc is a great coach haven't seen him up close. He is a "name" that everyone is familiar with, but once he coaches YOUR team, you lose all respect for him.
Bucks gonna be having four head coaches in its payroll
Doc is depending on Giannis to:
1. Make the 1st free throw (66% shooter)
2. Intentionally miss the second in such an accurate manner (from a 66% shooter), that he gets his own rebound
This logic makes absolutely ZERO sense 🤦🏻♂️💀💀
I hate the down by one I gotta hit a three mentality like bro
I don't get it. It's almost as if firing a 30-13 rookie coach mid-season to hire the guy your rejected in the original hiring process is a bad idea. Who could have possibly foreseen this might not be ideal...?
