I'm from The Netherlands Europe and we don't have school sports teams, cheerleaders and prom queens. And from the outside it looks kinda toxic how much emphasize there is on being the most popular and the best (better than others) in everything. The part I don't agree with is 'more work, less chillin'. Americans seem to live to work, while Dutch people work to live. Free time is very important. Not just for the worker's state of mind (less burn outs), but also for productivity. A well rested employee is way more productive than a person that works 12 hr shifts 6 days a week.

It is inaccurate to assert such a comparison, and it is unwise to equate sports stars with scientists, given their fundamentally distinct roles. Sports stars are compensated for their entertainment value and their contribution to fostering community engagement, whereas scientists are remunerated for their pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the world. Scientists do not depend on public acclaim as they are not entertainers, which highlights the misguidance in Vivek Ramaswamy's assertion.

@@geneclarke2205 I am not remotely a fan of DOGE (and most certainly not of Musk, and normally not of Ramaswamy either), but in this one instance, I do agree with the latter. It is sadly true that in many parts of our country, those who work hard and do well in school are looked down upon by their classmates. While having balance in life is important, we have tilted far too much towards the "relax and have a good time" view of life and away from the "work hard and take pride in your accomplishments" ethos we used to have. I don't think either extreme is healthy. We need to find a middle ground. We also need to celebrate those who pursue careers in the STEM fields as they are the ones who will help the United States be competitive with the rest of the world. Until that day comes, I would far rather American companies hire those with the necessary expertise (no matter where they were born) than have them work for China, North Korea, Russia, etc.
