You can beat Aquarium Park act 4 even without boosting, at the end chase with the purple crab bot, when the robot goes for a punch side step towards the arm he’s gonna punch you with (so if his left arm is gonna punch you side step towards his left arm) because he’ll just punch right past sonic because sonic hid under the robots arm as it punches. You can make it up the tower in Starlight Carnival Act 5 with a single Hover Wisp use if you spam the Light Speed Dash button, Which greatly extends your time, and pick up a spare capsule or two on the way before you run out.
I’m gonna guess that No you cannot. Either you’re gonna have to use the White, Drill, Laser or Frenzy wisps at some point. I’m gonna guess you have to you at least one, if not all, of those wisps at least once

You can avoid boosting in act 4 of Aquarium Park by side stepping to the same side as the punch from the Big Chaser (left if left side if its right fist is thrown and vice versa) I never even thought about boosting away from it as a kid!!!!
23:00 its entirely possible to beat this section with no boosts. what you'll have to do is when he throws a punch with his left, just before he throws the ğunch, move left and you will literally GO THROUGH HIS HAND and dont take any damage, in fact, thats the strat i use to beat this level in all of my playthroughs. i know boosts dont count as a wisp use, but its still entirely possible to beat the level without it.
I remember I tried to do a Wispless playthrough years ago back on the Wii. It kinda went like your playthrough, I had to use a few but I went through the the game mostly Wispless.
Yeeeeah...no, I couldn't activate Blue Cube in my first go of Colors and stopped playing the game, there was no way I was able to continue without the Wisp and so that's a lie, you freaking have to use Wisps to get all the Red Rings.
@@jimmysmomschannel I actually didn't have explosives but the Wisp couldn't activate for me for some reason, Cyan was no issue and so my Wiimote wasn't the issue, it was how difficult the Blue Cube is to activate and it ruined the flow, it was so frustrating that I just got tired of playing Colors and I beaten SATSR even in my 20s so that says alot about Colors. Anyways, Super Sonic is an unlockable and the question is beating the game without Wisps which clearly means you can't.
@@artistanthony1007 1. You might wanna re-read your reply, if you think nothings wrong with it, I'll tell you from my point of view. I'll comment my opinion about this afterwards.
13:47 If you start from the bottom and kill the robot band, you can get to the very top with one activation/button press of a hover wisp, as it gives you a trail of rings you can "lightspeed dash" on that will allow you to hit another wisp restarting the timer, and allowing you to reach the top
I actually tried this on my own (though I didn't record any footage), and my total was 23 times. I was playing the original version of the game and boosting counted as Wisp usage. Even though this video exists, I'm gonna make my own once I get working capture equipment, just while not counting boosting. So after recording footage, my total was 15, though I completely forgot about wall jumping through the 1st spikes section of Act 1.
I never understood why people hated wisps. It's narratively not a huge leap to say that some would stay on Sonic's planet after being saved, and they mix up his gameplay just a bit to keep the levels fresh. I dunno. They were fun to me.
A lot Sonic fans are always conflicted and change their opinions each year or two but in terms of hating the wisps i can't blame them there almost everywhere after sonic colours released
I had a dream where I found a REALLY old RUclips channel of yours with one video on it, where your voice hadn't yet changed and you were showing how to draw in the SA1 art style but you weren't as good at it as you are now.
Honestly I loved discovering so much Colors tech, like the fact that slope jumps exist or that you can bounce on enemies way higher without the homing attack, made me appreciate the game way more lol.
Man just pulled a Nathaniel Bandy with this video. "Slowly slide-kicking through a line of enemies is not that exciting." Sonic 06's anti-gravity would like to speak with you. Also, I'm betting at least one wisp use.
Well, to answer your question at the start of the video, Chaomix, I do think it's possible to beat Colors without using any wisps, not including the final boss fight. However, I've already been spoiled by RUclips when I hovered over this video with my mouse and it showed how many wisps you had used.
Considering the announcer calls out each of them individually and you have to press the wisp button for each wisp I would say the final color blaster counts as 7 wisp uses.
Seeing those tiny mandatory sections for Laser really highlights the biggest gripe with the wisps as a concept for me: they don't enhance the gameplay so much as they just act like fancy keys to pass through one specific area every time. Just look at 21:06, you could be wall jumping if they had just put another wall but nope, just grab the wisp and fly all the way up. And since they're all one-time use their purposes just end at that. And yet Lost World would double down on this philosophy... Really the only time they feel somewhat rewarding is when find a non-mandatory passage without the required wisp sitting next to it, that way you're rewarded for early exploration by being able to access another area later on. But even then, they really should think of something more interesting if they plan for them to stick around.
You don't have to boost in the aquarium park crab part. When it throws a punch you have to quick step to the opposite of his punching direction. Let's say it's punching toward the right. Right before it punches, quick step to the far left.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but I just wanted to say that I mapped the boost to the right trigger (so I would use it less) and found the game much more enjoyable and evenly paced. I have a feeling the game was mostly designed without the boost, and that they chickened out of just making a simple Sonic platformer and shoehorned the boost in.
Since you’re counting refilling the wisp gauge mid-use as part of a single wisp use, you could’ve reduced the number of hover wisps you used in starlight carnival.
It would be very easy if you rely on Super Sonic mode. But in the case of this video, that doesn't count. I thought the Wisps counter with Yacker's face was very funny haha
That mini boss part in aquatic park let’s you quick step out of the way. If his left arm is charging a punch, step to the left. If it’s the right one, step to the right
I kinda feel you on the wisps, that was...until I read the IDW comics. There's an aspect of those comics that caused them to really grow on me...more specifically, a particular character who was closely tied to them. Namely Whisper. Really good character, and her spinoff with Tangle is a great read.
In starlight act 2, you can try to damage boost through the spikes to get that tails save in which has a button that opens the door. The spike gap is tight whicg is normally intended for the spike wisp but like i said you can damage boost, normally trying to damage boost sends back (to the right) and fall down so you can't use your invincible frames but if you face right and jump left but not so much where sonic switches directions, sonic will be sent to the left and thus you damage boost through the spikes Then You go through the door and fall down and climb a few platforms to get the goal much faster.
I’d say the reason everyone hates the wisps now is because almost every game after colors had no reason for them to be included. In this game they were a part of the story and each was used and placed perfectly in each level. Still, the white wisps in each game isn’t that big of a deal as they actually serve a purpose of giving you boost!!
I watched up to the end of Tropical Resort and decided I wanted to try this myself, so here's my results compared to yours! I was playing the original game on Dolphin, but it's near identical between versions, so it doesn't matter much. For the first few zones, our results were the same, up until Starlight Carnival Act 5. This one's a doozy. I thought it took two hovers, but while watching your video I had some ideas that I went to test, and managed to bring it down to one. Here's how I did it: first, defeat all the enemies right at the start of the 3D section. A long ring chain will appear that you can use the light speed dash on, which is important since you don't lose Wisp energy during the dash. Grab Hover, and jump into the line of rings such that you can dash immediately after activating the Wisp. There's a few places you can do it, it's not too difficult. Then, once you reach the top, hold forward and mash the dash button like your life depends on it. For some reason it makes Hover last slightly longer (probably because of the way the light speed dash works), giving you just enough time to defeat the enemy on the platform and refill on energy. Keep moving up the tower, defeat the next enemies on the platform for another refill, and from there you can reach the top without issue. You can also defeat the guys on the left to grab the Red Ring if you want to be fancy, lol. In Starlight Carnival 6, I ended up with the same number but a different solution. With some tight timing, you can light speed dash up far enough to refill Hover and reach the top, even without the mashing strategy. No need for crazy homing attacks! Planet Wisp Act 1 can be done without a boost. All you need to do is bring it back to the Adventure days and jump with good timing on that slope, giving you juuuuust enough height to reach the platform above. Act 3 you beat me, I didn't consider either of those strategies, that was awesome. I just used a Cube at the start and booked it to the second container to get a refill, one Wisp total. Of course, since I wanted to keep track of this, it begs the question how many Boosts it costs. I can easily pull it off in 2, and I think it might be possible with one, by rationing boost just right such that you run out during the jump and can use an air dash instead of a Boost, but that's a bit too elaborate for me at the moment, lol. I'll test it more thoroughly later. That brings our total to 2 Boosts and 7 Wisps. According to other comments Aquarium Park Act 4 can be beaten without Boosts, but I didn't notice that, so I came out with 1 Boost. Just start Boosting at the last second before dying to make it through the first section, then get as many rings as you can in the second section to survive all the way to the end. Asteroid Coaster 3 left me rather annoyed since I knew it was possible, I had heard of it being done before, but I didn't know how. I forgot jumping on an enemy without using the homing attack gives you crazy height, lol. Act 6 is of course the big one. I checked out the speedrun and found that trick myself, but after a little while I just couldn't pull it off, couldn't even get through the wall at the start. I'll keep trying later. Last but not least, the final boss. I don't fight it with boosts anyway since I find it more fun, so that wasn't a problem. Though, the final move is described as "Unlimited Colours", so... Nothing mattered in the end and the total is infinity! Woohoo! Gotta say, that challenge was a really fun one, and the video was great too. I'd love to see more of these!
People are way too hard on the wisps. If you played the story mode of sonic runners it mentions that some of the wisps decided to stay on sonics home world because they liked it there so much.
"In Sonic Runners, a White Wisp on Sonic's world was mistaken for a ghost by Animals, prompting Team Sonic to investigate it. While Team Sonic prepared a device for understanding the Wisp though, Dr. Eggman tried to capture him for its Hyper-go-on. Thankfully, the Wisp was saved by Team Sonic, and he apologized for scaring the Animals before revealing that other Wisps like himself had chosen to live on Sonic's world after Sonic saved them and were ready to help him and his friends anytime." That's Why They Appear In The Games After Colors.
I would assume 0 Wisps required including White Boost Wisp Capsules, In Colors Super Sonic Disables Wisps so I would assume every stage would have to be possible even without using it (it isn't, he mentioned stage accommodations at the end). Even if boost is required, if you are playing Ultimate you could get boost via Perfect Homing Attack as a different Source (this doesn't include actual enemies which drop White Wisps). (also Forgot Final Color Blaster)
14:15 You can skip this wisp use if you mash during the hover, because for whatever reason, mashing the button dramatically extends the duration by around 15 seconds. However, I don’t know if this works on any version besides the Wii version.
You can actually skip the boost in the ramp in planet wisp act 1 at 17:04 by jumping right as your about to complete running up the ramp, but I guess it doesn't matter since you dont count boosts
coming back to this video, you couldve boosted due to the perfect homing attack. it could still count as long as you dont pick up a white wisp, but the minute you do, the boost is off limits
I know you loath wisps, but I kinda like them, considering that I grew up with Sonic Colors. They kinda fit in to Sonic, considering eye color and brow ridges. Please don't kill me.
It is possible to beat the game without the wisps and that's what I love about this game! The wisps are required to beat Sonic lost world tough. I would like to see a video about if it's possible to beat Sonic lost world without wisps next.
Is it possible to beat Sonic Colors without using wisps? Let me know your guess, and if not, what do you think is the minimum required wisps to beat the game?

Notice how yours is the only comment without a heart.
@@devvibes4769 There are other Comments without a heart on the video too!
Beating Sonic Colors without wisps? It’s called playing as Super Sonic.
On a serious note, great video!
You need wisps to even unlock da man
Yeeeeah...no, I couldn't activate Blue Cube in my first go of Colors and stopped playing the game, there was no way I was able to continue without the Wisp and so that's a lie, you freaking have to use Wisps to get all the Red Rings.
@@artistanthony1007 I already any% that topic my guy. nice to know tho
As someone who has attempted the same challenge, but on the very different DS version of the game, I highly recommend trying that as well.
Awesome Video Bro!
I had a dream where I found a REALLY old RUclips channel of yours with one video on it, where your voice hadn't yet changed and you were showing how to draw in the SA1 art style but you weren't as good at it as you are now.
Never played Colors but.. that thumbnail is heartbreaking.
Honestly I loved discovering so much Colors tech, like the fact that slope jumps exist or that you can bounce on enemies way higher without the homing attack, made me appreciate the game way more lol.
Man just pulled a Nathaniel Bandy with this video.
"Slowly slide-kicking through a line of enemies is not that exciting."
Sonic 06's anti-gravity would like to speak with you.
17:47 Well that's Colors Ultimate for ya! 😂 😂 😂 😂
17:03 caught ya lmao used a spike right there
Great vid still
That was just the animation of collecting the wisp capsule. You can literally just wall jump up that portion super easily lol. But thanks!
I've actually already tried this a long time ago but didn't succeed
"Im tired of the wisps, so *t i r e d* "
I feel you
baby oh baby, prepare for about 5 - 10 wisps
I be surprised if its lower then 5.
I did the same with unleashed. That spin kick is useful af
It would be very easy if you rely on Super Sonic mode.
But in the case of this video, that doesn't count.
I thought the Wisps counter with Yacker's face was very funny haha
Sonic made the wisps go Extinct which is why chaomix is not using them for this run
whati like wbout the wisps: the concept
what i dont Like: the execution of said concept
The fucking wisp counter drawing is making me laugh more than I would like to admit lmao.
That picture of sonic strangling the wisp never gets old!
this was really impressive. That was a good idea to look up speed running ideas. You are the leader of the wisp rebellion and i heartily follow
The spike gap is tight whicg is normally intended for the spike wisp but like i said you can damage boost, normally trying to damage boost sends back (to the right) and fall down so you can't use your invincible frames but if you face right and jump left but not so much where sonic switches directions, sonic will be sent to the left and thus you damage boost through the spikes
Then You go through the door and fall down and climb a few platforms to get the goal much faster.
Yo I love challenge videos like this, that was a lot of fun!
*CHAOMIX UPLOAD LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!*
I found u. Wheres my food.

AHAHHHAHHAAAHAHA
People are way too hard on the wisps. If you played the story mode of sonic runners it mentions that some of the wisps decided to stay on sonics home world because they liked it there so much.
The fact that a mobile game is the only place where a critical lore info that has affected every game since can be found is still wack though.
23:10 you could beat without using boost, just stay where the light turn so you can avoid his attack
You playing without the boost was exactly how I played the game when I was younger, my dumbass didn't know the boost existed
I have a similar idea:
Can you beat Sonic Lost World (Wii U and 3DS) without using wisps?
9:37 Me who played jungle joyride a hundred times.... WAIT A MINUTE!
You can avoid the Aquarium Park Crab Enemy by just quickstepping into the hand that it wants to hit you, if he will punch you from the left, go left
In the middle of watching. Just got the notifications :)
That thumbnail Sonic looks absolutely disgusting.. I love it!
27:46 That was me when I had to fight Tails in SA2 lol
When the crab boss in act 5 AP attacks with a punch if you step into the direction he's punching from and it won't hit you
23:00 you can just quick step to avoid every attack from the mini boss also great video
By side stepping to the side that he punches btw
14:09 actually, killing the enemies at the beginning of the ship will give you rings to go through, and could help
Its a good evening when Chaomix uploads
4:23 uh oh
Oh wow, I was not expecting this to actually be possible with less then 11 Wisp uses!
Wisps are..okay. but like yknow. There's a large variety of chao that they can just replace wisps.
You are becoming a better and better youtuber every time you upload
Actually guessed right on the money thank god for that final boss forcing you to use a wisp 😅
