Well said I agree. I personally believe it’s jealousy and laziness to work and afford a half decent guitar . I worked hard for 38 years . I have 16 guitars and play them all except my 3 bass guitars .
Just arrived today in the mail.. It truly does sound that good! I'm no Justin, but just my 5 years of experience make this thing sound amazing. Very impressed
@@KeyshawnJenkins I don’t regret my purchase either. But now looking at getting a true solid top next. Thinking of the GPC-13E or an SC-13E. Also eyeballing Taylor’s but they really get up there In price
Wow and it's direct for John Cash himself. Sort of a high end "Do All" instrument. A gigging musician whether in a band or ideal as a solo artist guitar sounds great to me. I'm not so much on the all black "murdered out" look but I know it's the man in black motif. Justin, even noodling you sound great, I really like the fluidity in your style. The lines are so connected that when you do stops and bends there's more detail and emphasis on the stylings.
It's got a nice blues sound for a guitar that wasn't specifically built for that. I also like that Justin chose to play some Cash music on it. Gotta pay tribute.
I just saw this guitar at the local music store. Thanks for the in depth review. Seems like a great deal from martin. Was priced at like $800 here in canada.
Awesome!! My dad Benjamin Perea was friends with Johnny Cash. They served in the airforce together and were stationed in Lansberg Germany. I have the Johnny Cash D35 signature series signed by John Carter. I played it on my RUclips channel "A soldier's last waltz" tribute to my Dad and Johnny. I will forever regret not having Johnny sign one of my guitars ☹☹☹ Ben Perea
Ben Perea Thanks for sharing that story. Your dad and Johnny Cash must have had some great stories. Did you ever meet Johhnny Cash in person if I may ask? I am a big fan but live in the UK and I am way to young to have had a chance to even seen Mr Cash in a concert but would had been my honor to shake his hand.
Yes I was fortunate enough to meet him...but I will always regret not having him sign my guitar...ugggg! My Dad and Johnny Cash visited Europe together when they had free weekends. Lots of pictures and stories. Some of the pictures and letters they exchanged are on display at the Nashville country music hall of fame and Johnny's home/museum in Dyess Arkansas.
I love it. Great Guitar. I want to buy one as soon as I get enough money. I still have my Fender guitar I bought in 1978 in Aurora, Colorado. This is going to be a super guitar for me. I always wanted a Martin Guitar. Thanks for creating this great video and introducing us to this great affordable good looking and performing Martin guitar.
I have a black Martin POW-MIA model. Got it from GC years ago. It was in the acoustic room in the case on a shelf so high up you couldn't see it. The lid was up so when the guy got it down it was covered in dust. Got a great deal and it plays awesome!
Thanks for the video - we have this guitar and it has stood up well for my son - bar and street gigs, stable due to the construction and easy to maintain (for me) between gigs. We use Martin Authentic Acoustic 12s and pics on the heavy side (Gator) as my son plays Indie Rock when not covering Johnny Cash, Dylan or Clapton. The strings also stand up to 2 months of regular play. Compared to a Taylor Big Baby (his first regular gigging guitar) there is no competition - Tailor falling to bits after the first year, top and sides split, lead jack came loose inside, truss rod adjustment for temperature, saddle and nut both high on delivery. Sounded lovely but no good for the live work. Truly, the Martin has been the perfect compliment to a Gibson J45 for special events / none amped gigs (where it's volume can carry over a room).
Went into my guitar store today and headed into the acoustic room. See this really nice black guitar and pick it up off the wall. That's when I noticed that 4 letter name in the fretboard
Just wanted to drop a note real quick. Because of your video, I took the chance on one of these Cash DX guitars. Not knowing what to expect with the HPL construction, but I freaking love it. I live in North Florida where the humidity can kill guitars easy enough. This is my new traveling companion around here and leave the more expensive stuff at home. Thanks for posting this, other videos out there about this guitar don't come close to the true sound like yours does. And you are a great player to boot! Thanks!
I love to watch u play! Its like other guys have to headbang and getting crazy on the guitarr to spread emotions. But you just need that little smile and your beautiful sounds. --- IT GIVES ME AWESOME CHILLS--- Mutch love from Germany!
When these came out they were impossible to keep in stock. I ordered one from sweetwater and there was a 4 week lead time. I couldn't wait so I ordered something different ( Martin GPC 11)... now I got my eyes set on a Martin Cash D35 $4859.00 I almost got all the money saved. I've been putting away $200 a paycheck just for that guitar. I'm almost there. To add some context I did play a DX series guitar and I have to say @ the $5-600 price point they are on point. That series is an excellent guitar for the money. Don't let the laminate fool you. Look at ovation with their plastic body/back.... they are crazy popular and sound amazing. All this means is that guitar is more durable. 👏👏👏
So why the astronomical discrepancy in price? I mean, I know it's HPL vs wood, but is there that much difference in tone? I'd say yes, it sounds like a plastic guitar imo. Is it strange that I still want the damn thing? I'd say definitely lol. It sounds awfully thin, no?
I have this guitar...sounds great plugged in..played 50 shows with it...never had any trouble stays in tune...it doesn't have alot of projection unplugged...but thru a PA or amp..it sounds great
...I almost b urned the biscuits watching this - it's real windy here today, and now I have almost overcooked the curry vegetable soup...this sounds awesome, I have become totally distracted by being here ....
It’s not the ride it’s the rider boy can play my god what a gift! I’m buying this guitar. Great tone outstandingly magnificent . Best guitarist on the planet right now
Just bought this on the spot! Always been crazy about Johnny Cash and a huge fan of Justin…so it was a given that I’d buy this as soon as I saw this video! 😂
I bought a lefty after seeing you play it. I have quite a few other acoustics, other Martins, Gibson etc. I have a Collings dreadnought that's a real boomer. Of course, this isn't as loud but that one cost $3,500 twenty years ago. This is an amazing guitar for the money. I'm very glad that I was to find one. It's worth every penny. Oh, great playing Justin.
Love this black beauty and Justin makes is sing so sweetly. Watching him finger style pick is mesmerizing. This will be my next purchase. I hope I can be a 1/4 of the player Justin is some day. Started teaching myself two years ago when the pandemic hit. I'm a long way from good but having fun getting there. Cheers!
Finally pulled the trigger on mine. Picking it up on Friday morning. Love my Martin Mini. Have some nice, old Yamahas. Hoping this one will make a nice addition to my playable collection.
You got your hands on a piece of histotry in a sense man! Man i love that classic Martin midrange sound. Hope someday I can own a model like this someday!
I just got the Martin x model for my first guitar after learning to play on my grandfathers, I wanted to retire my grandfathers guitar to preserve it. I wanted a guitar that had a cutaway and was durable since I live in Alaska. Have you played that model and if so what are your thoughts? I’m worried I may have gotten something that’s going to require a amp for it to sound really good. Side note: I’ve been watching your videos for sometime now and I must say you are a true inspiration and god has given you a talent, keep up the amazing playing your The Man!
I am extremely jealous, that is the most beautiful sounding acoustic guitar I've ever heard, and the best looking, made with very high quality, you've got yourself a gem, have fun with that one, yeah you're right it does sound like electric, man what a killer guitar, mr cash would be smiling right about now and would be honored to play it I bet.
I have had a couple three of the HPL guitars. I find the only trouble being is they put green un dried spruce bracing in them. Yes the HPL is good not warping but the braces will and DO suck the top down and there is no fixing them.
Wow, a nice surprise, considering the materials used, compared to the more expensive Martins. I liked that the DX wasn't boomy at the bottom but while not sounding unpleasant at the top, it didn't have that distinctive sparkle that other Martins have.
The stratobond neck (especially the heel) and the bracings are unfortunately still affected by humidity since they are wood... the glue they use may shrink and cause the bond to fail... this is something I noticed since I have an lxk2. I still would tell you to be careful and pay attention since these are the areas of most concern. This is only my opinion. Thank you for reading.
Just done a dollar conversation for pounds mine was £685 which is about $825 at the time of writing but every bit worth it. It's a killer guitar, these things have to be heard to be believed.
I know very little about guitars but I'm watching this with my BF and your jewelry is dope. I kept trying to get a better look at the bracelet. Um, the guitar sounds nice, too tho.

I'll never understand why some people thumbs down a VIDEO WHERE SOMEONE IS SHARING SOMETHING WITH YOU. Thanks for the video man.
I hear ya. Justin is the real deal, and I was glad to see he got to do an unboxing of this. I did buy one right after I watched this video :)
Yeah I hate when people dislike a video when people are just trying to share they're instruments

This was the most informative unboxing ive seen on a DX. Thank you.
Of course, it's tough to tell if this is a nice-sounding guitar, considering that Justin can even make a shovel sound good!!! LOL
Haha, true that. I did read its full laminate, just hard to justify buying a $600 full HPL body..but I do want a full black cash martin lol

Thanks Justin for being true and honest with all of us great playing as always.
Idk if it's Justin's fingers the fact it's a martin or the spirit of the man in Black that makes that sound so killer
