    You need to listen to this whole album from start to finish to really understand otherwise is like picking random chapters of a book and trying to follow the plot

    Oooh, Opeth.
    Please also do Opeth - The Drapery Falls. I can truly recommend the live version at Royal Albert Hall. (that entire concert is incredible)

      Eh his vocals aren't ideal though. Lamentations would be my vote.

    This is a concept album. Melinda is the beloved girl he came back to bring with him. It is an amazing gorgeous concept album. You have to read the full story . Without you can't get it

    Its the first track to a concept album where a man had been banished from his city by the clergy. He comes back 15 years later to retrieve Melinda, his lover. The song is about him going through the Moor on the outskirts of the city and the rushing of hatred and disdain for those who branded him a freak.

    This song makes perfect sense... I recommend listening to the entire album, Still Life, from beginning to end. The album is very much one big story. Well-worth the listen.
    I enjoyed your reaction, by the way. Cheers!

    React to Opeth - Sorceress live at red rocks it’s their current line up and the peak of their singing and still heavy.

    You should react to Oceansize, One Day All This Could Be Yours or Music For A Nurse, or anything by them really, they were a great UK rock band.

    You should check out the band Bretwaldas Of Heathen Doom :) They are from the Midlands and sing about battles, ancient burial mounds, England, forests etc and their sound is kind of like old doom band met a crust punk band and fronted by Lemmy of Motorhead. Completely DIY label too King Penda Productions

    Completely different from Opeth, but if you enjoyed Hiromi's SonicBloom, Snarky Puppy is a MUST. Lingus,or What About Me are great songs, fantastic musicians as well. Hope you like them Jim.

  • @xenophon343

    Ha ha ha. I like Opeth but I agree that sometimes is sounds like they used Google translator for their lyrics since English isn't their native language. Someone below explained the concept of the song but we'd never figure it out on our own! :)

    • @jcrosato
      @jcrosato 6 лет назад +18

      I always thought the lyrics to be very poetic, and the choice of words great.
      "The hands of God, decrepit and thin
      Cold caress and then nothing
      I was taken away from my plight
      A treason bestowed to the crowd
      Branded a jonah with fevered blood
      Ungodly freak, defiler"
      Maybe I'm just impressed because I'll admit, I don't read much lol. This Swedish guy probably has a superior grasp of the English language than me. XD

      jcrosato exactly

    • @lircox
      @lircox 6 лет назад +10

      Think that is really unfair lol, Mikael (who writes the lyrics) clearly has a good grasp on English

    • @RohannvanRensburg
      @RohannvanRensburg 6 лет назад +5

      Uh that is the part of the person who wrote the lyrics on screen. Mikael likely speaks more eloquent English than many people commenting.

    • @ericforsyth
      @ericforsyth 5 лет назад +1

      Poetry is esoteric and isn’t supposed to be on the nose. Song lyrics are supposed to be up to interpretation.
      The only part you have a point in is that Mikael did use a thesaurus early on to get more impressive/poetic/archaic words in there.

  • @johanblom3591
    @johanblom3591 5 лет назад

    Hrmm ..Jim both you and I are TOO stupid to understand the brilliant lyrics these guys have put together ...! Melinda seems like a reference to Uriah Heep "Come away Melinda.." maybe....lol I don´t know...

  • @crystalyork6545
    @crystalyork6545 6 лет назад +1

    I'd listen to it without the shitty growling stuff. the singing parts are nice enough. But they are just way to generic when the growling stuff happens.

    • @ericforsyth
      @ericforsyth 5 лет назад +1

      ”Generic”
      As if Mikael doesn’t/didn’t have one of the best brutal vocals of all time.
      How are growls more generic than clean vocals anyway, lol?

  • @crystalyork6545
    @crystalyork6545 6 лет назад +2

    The growling shit takes away from this band significantly. They would be better off without it. IMO.
