I’m sure most ‘factual’ books have a lot of creative license, I’d expect a writer to fill in the gaps and put their own stamp on it. I can’t wait to buy it and it’ll be a cracking good read 🎉

Hey your a creative writer and a fiction writer. Right? Then get as much truth about a certain time on the waterways as per general knowledge and write a fictional piece about the British canal boats and their escapades. How about from the perspective of the narrow boat itself and its experiences on the canals being dragged this way and pulled that way, bumping boats,canal walls and floaty stuff unrecognized until the last second. Kudos to you and your endeavours and experiences and you will succeed. Go for it, girl.
