    Proper hook timing is performed by sliding the large gear to the left or right, not by rotating it. The gear has two screws, one of which tightens into a flat spot on the shaft. You never want to rotate the gear so the screw comes out of the flat spot, otherwise it may slip if the machine ever has a thread jam

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  5 лет назад +7

      I concur. I went back and looked at my video and I think that my mistake was in editing because sliding that gear is definitely the way to get it done. Over the course of my several videos I have found that when I make a mistake, and I do make mistakes, the good community of RUclips will find it and correct it for me.
      Thank you for your good work.

    I've had a 1510-7 now for 13 yrs. Use it in reupholstery and canvas. Won't sew v92 Dabond now without fraying and breaking. Sew's 24/3 cotton glace fine. #52 mono fine. So I figure the timing must be out of wack a bit. My service/sellar guy just hasn't come. I'll try this myself. thanks. Oh I love the 1510-7. Will never go back to one without automated trim etc.

    Alex, my new 1508NH just got delivered today, at the dealer's store it worked fine but now I can't get the bobbin housing to spin. I loaded the fully loaded bobbin into the case, pulled the thread around that slot at the front, but as I crank the wheel, the housing/bobbin case, any part of it, does not spin to allow me to further pull the thread through and to enable the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. Basically the bobbin area is complete non-mobile.

    I am reviewing the timing video on the Juki LU 1508n. When you discuss the needle bar height you point to the number 52.3 for the 1508H, yet the 1508 has a height of 56.8. I am confused. Please could you clarify?

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  5 лет назад

      It really depends upon the needle system used. Mine is Altered and that accounts for the difference. If you follow the manual for both needle and needle bar height you will be gold.

  • @ryanevanroberts
    @ryanevanroberts 7 лет назад

    Great video, awesome quality and clearly explained! Nice to see something on the 1508. What was your method for setting stitch / feed length 0? It seems theres no hard stop for that and 0 is never quite reached. If I work the handle up and down I can get closer to 0 but not sure if that is what the factory settings intended for. May not be as critical with timing but for something like the needle entry position adjustment it seems to make a big difference in the measurement / result.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  7 лет назад

      Mine works very similar to what you describe. I just get as close as I can, I don't think it is super critical but; You can test by sewing a piece of card stock, if several strokes make a single hole then you have attained a 0 setting. The dial doesn't seem to be all that accurate.

      Maybe pull the door over the bobbin case and see if the thread is passing around smoothly. Advance by hand to find the exact place you hear the sound. Happy hunting.

    Thanks for the video, I have the 1508 and got thread jammed into the hook assembly and can't get it out, how do you take the hook assembly out of this machine so I can try and remove the thread it is really jammed in there? The owners manual I have doesn't show which screws to loosen to remove it? I wasn't able to move the hand wheel at all but now I think I have enough of the thread out so I can turn it a little bit but the way the hook is turning it looks like the hook assembly is not lining up right anymore hopefully wgen I get the thread out it will line back up, any suggestions on what I need to do would be very helpful? Tomorrow I'm going to tilt the machine back and see if I can't get the thread out from underneath that the machine but it's wrapped around the hook assembly pretty good. I have to remove the knee lift first before I can tilt the machine back. Thanks for your help, I sure hope I haven't hurt anything on this machine this is the best machine I have and love it I'm just hoping I don't have to adjust anything to get it going again, I'm worried. Need to buy a manual for sure. Thanks again. Tammy

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  9 месяцев назад

      I recommend looking at the hook while operating the machine slowly by hand to watch the sewing motion to see where the error lies. Then you will know what to do.

    • @sirmagnus99
      @sirmagnus99 9 месяцев назад

      @AlexanderDyer Eventually.... turned out the drive gear was not in the right location, the hook gear was then not in the right place to compensate. Turns out someone dropped the hook gear out of the machine, maybe when changing the hook. I think we moved the gear 3 or 4 teeth to get all the spot screws back into the correct places. Hint: 1st screw in rotation is the spot screw.

      According to my manual, some take the 135 X 17 and some take the 190 . Some people will switch needle systems between these two but that does require that the machine be re-timed. If you have a new machine and one needle system doesn't work, you could try the other to see if that solves an issue.

    Is your 1508 an N or NH? The name plate says N but you used the NH needle bar height, 52.3 mm. Other pictures I've seen of NH machines say that on the name plate.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  7 лет назад

      Well, you caught me. I have gone a bit off path with that. There are two different needle systems that can be used on this series of machine, one being longer than the other. By using the needle system and bar height of the NH I have in effect converted the N into an NH.

    • @Braz1956
      @Braz1956 7 лет назад

      It's good know that option is there. I recently ordered a 1508N and studied for a while the differences in the N and NH before deciding the NH was not worth, to me, the almost 30% higher cost. The primary upgrades on the NH were the much heavier hand wheel, 190R needle system, and slightly different feed motion.
