- Great documentary on UK Reggae Sound Systems.
Musically Mad takes you into the hearts of the singers and the soundman, the backbone of the UK roots reggae soundsytems.
With them they bring the deepest bass and the highest chants, delivered by massive stacks of speakers and curtom-built sound equipment. Видеоклипы
When Dougie is talking about when " Shaka " played " Manassa " it was at " Darnley rd Centre " Hackney , 1988 . And it was a Dubplate of " Al Campbell " singing " Wicked ah go feel it " ......Shaka " RINSED " that tune " Inside Out " an " Upside Down " .......... Ah Good night out for all .
Thanks for the extra information @mickydub. Bless
Great Documentary. Does anyone remember BASS .. British Association of Sound Systems ? These guys helped us play Carnival in `86 at the little castle on Basing Street .. not there anymore. We wre called Metro Inc and 2 out of 3 of us were white. We got abuse and respect in equal measure ! Happy Days
That clip from the Leeds Trade hall brings back memories.
I remember going to listen to jah tubbys in the early 80s, we used to follow them all over, I remember some sessions at hackney downs and brook road stoke newington, I miss them days!!
Was the Dub and Roots sound still strong when Dancehall came in ?
@@chrisr5499 I’m not too sure I stopped going around 84, life just got too busy! I would guess that it carried on as the crowds that followed sound systems kept following them
@@Topnorth-london I love the end scene in Babylon with Shakas Dub session before the police raid and you can see the start of Dancehall even then with Brinsley Forde on mic...even the rejected toaster before him ...Lion Lion
@@chrisr5499 yea that’s a wicked scene in that movie!
@@chrisr5499 loved that tune warrior charge that they played, jah tubbys used to play more dub plates like one offs especially cut for them so when they played other sound systems they would tear things up!
Pure good vibes 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Reggae musics a great thing and the sound systems are also a great thing
Keep up your great work ,I love the vibe and intense bass line it’s very infectious

26:12 I totally agree. It is a total waste of time playing heavy bass if it not a quality sound. Went to a dance last weekend in The Netherlands - a top sound was playing. Most of the time it was just noise. Did not enjoy it. In contrast, the last time I was in Jamaica, walking back from my grandmother's funeral, the sound Bodyguard were stringing up for a bush dance. Trust me, the QUALITY of the sound was just out of this world.
Has nothing to do with the quality of the sound but has anything to do with roomacoustics. Soundsystem outside or inside is a huge difference.
@@ReggaeSpijkenisse You're from the Netherlands, so you must be familiar with King Shiloh. Years ago they used to know how to play, but now regardless of the acoustics of the venue etc, they just drop bass as if dropping just bass is the thing to do. You need to know when to drop weight. Shiloh in my opinion have forgotten how to do this. You can't just go around dropping weight for the sake of it. It might impress some French stoner in the Netherlands for a weekend, but for those of us who LOVE sounds systems, weight is applied IF and WHEN required - not all the time.
loved growing up around the origins
Hahaha his expression when he say jah tubbys tun up di bass hahah
Good ragge music 🎶
The more music out there the better. Word
One love too you my man reggae love's you as much as you love reggae. Bless from Jon Clarke aka Tootsie Jr
A young Stryda sharing the love @ 24.00
Best scene is when the cat is dancing on top of the speaker box and a man is looking at that in total calm. (#.^) Good that the loudspeaker is not connected at that time.
Lutan Fyah - Serious Things (Disciples - Serious Version)
Yes bredrin any idea how to spell the track name ironworks dread is taking about. Tune sounds killa. Bless up
Reggae Reggae Sauce yo!
I would like to do a Documentary about sound systems culture in Costa Rica and Panama
Right on! Music is a mission, not a competition. Overamplificaton can be like flavored coffees- quality poor to begin with so the original grind needs to be disquised!
where can I buy live recording cassettes of Jah Shaka
That's right just like Mr reggae sauce said everyone Involved with the sound system played a role.
Of course, after I got out of hospital from a motorbike crash that left me with brain injury. I started going to iration Steppas dances in leeds. I would help put the speakers away in the morning. Got to know his crew and they took me to dances all over UK and I could have gone abroad if I had a passport. He looked out for me when I was unwell. I will never forget how a group of people who I was a stranger to, treated me like family and helped me with recovering. 💚💛❤️

What tune is it being at 8.50?
Jah Shaka - Guidance Dub
the one that starts at 1:40
Strange reaction of the others in the room when the guy starts talking at 16:00. People 'remember' things differently, perhaps.
Maybe they're dismayed at his Jamaican accent?

Can anyone here confirm (i heard in a different docco about Channel one) and he was saying that they prefer mono sound, is this still the case if a song is recorded in stereo or does it have to be mono to be played on a mono system? I understand why its maybe better, less cancelations form bas and mids ect, but i thought stereo imaging/big soundstage was the goal
Mono stack is often still preferred cause it's easier to deploy into a random room
@@bassbinhauler552 Thanks my guy! exactly the answer i was looking for ! =)
Exactly right with the random room thing; I've also noticed many older reggae tracks used 4 or 8 track recording, and they'd use the left hand track for something like a main vocal, and the effects on that vocal on the right track. If you play those mixes in stereo it can be jarring to hear a clean sound out the left and the affected sound out the right. But those songs were intended to be played in mono, so they sound better on mono systems
Has there ever been a sound system with a heavier bass than Jah Tubby's?, just wondering, I can't imagine what it would be like to listen to an even heavier thump than that, I would have thought it would bring the house down....LITERALLY Lol.
King Tafari .
Yes Jungleman... Quaker City... Stereograph....
John Cashin I would say Jah Shaka would give him a good challenge
Yes King Earthquake of course
In my opinion no... But JT cant select. That coveted title must go to Abba Shanti :-)

@@tianathompson2725 he's from Netherlands
@@bigcee3856 Nah he's English, moved to Netherlands. Don't care how he chooses to speak, he's a solid bloke. You do pick accents up over time and he's surrounded himself with the culture so a bit will rub off.
@@paulgilson2347 I never mentioned anything untoward him I'm a follower of him on RUclips don't have a problem with the way he speaks
Now think I understand why I got a thumbs-down, straight after sharing link to my new dub track: on UOD Facebk page [earlier this year].
(Talking about this one, just simple but effective tune on bass machine emulator [tho yes: can play proper bass as well]; which is still one of my favourites: m.ruclips.net/video/yZLFr4AZ7-o/видео.html ).
But according to data espoused by King Shiloh [grettings, btw: as used to attend those sessions at the Rec] Sound, in this video: probably expecting artists to share PRE-release; as in "Here's a 'Special', man (just to play ONE time in the session, and Never again)".
Well that might be good from the Sound System's view, but other than sounds too good from perspective of the ARTIST: artists wanting their top tunes to be played time & time again, by as many people as possible (rather than just being forgotten about).
i like the two guys with the two old Nokia 3330 handys in front of them on the table. i still use this stuff and iam happy with it.
What about now?
