Here's the energy transition sequence in the US.
Coal/oil/natural gas/nuclear.
Transitions to coal/oil/natural gas/existing nuclear/Plus a whole bunch of worthless wind and solar that make everything more expensive and less reliable. (It would be great if we could skip this log and costly phase, but it appears we can't.)
Transitions to natural gas/oil/existing nuclear/new nuclear that we import from Indonesia, Africa, or Canada / solar panels and wind turbines go to landfills.
Transitions to nuclear/synthetic liquid fuels. Everybody wins with prosperity for all.
This transition takes 100 years +/-
