What I really really would like to see is small dairy farms having their own processing facilities and selling milk etc locally. People love fresh right off the farm. Time to nip these big megadairies in the butt.

This was so sad for me to see. I grew up on a dairy farm and was hands on in all aspects of it. At the time, it didn't seem so great - very tied down and never could take a family vacation plus my hands were ever so chapped and sore. Forty years later, I value those lessons and moments cleaning out the gutters, hauling silage to the cows, bedding, feeding the baby calves. and all the new kittens in the haymow. It was hard work that we didn't realize was hard....till one is no longer doing it. Still live on a farm, but my kids and grandkids missed the dairy/milking aspects and we only had/have stock cows. They definitely missed out as all of the naysayers and city dwellers have.

Used to be a 60 cow herd was a large dairy! My father made a living with 20 cows and 120 acres! As did my Uncle with 20 cows and 80 acres! I milked 60 cows and and farmed 900 acres. I sold out!

What a sad trend! Loss of the American dream..My Aunt and Uncle owned a dairy farm in Ohio....great memories. And we always got fresh milk from a dairy in N. Minnesota from three older bachelor brothers that loved their herd. What a loss to all of us.. of all farms and ranches that have made our country.

I think people aren’t drinking milk as much either. They are drinking soda pop and energy drinks. And cheese is unbelievably high. I’m getting a bigger refrigerator for my room today so I can keep my milk inside the refrigerator rather than on the door. It seems to go bad faster. I hate not having milk. One of the things I remember vividly from my childhood was the milkman coming every Saturday morning to deliver milk. Daddy used to enjoy skimming a little of the cream off the top for his coffee. I’m so sorry to hear about this. You put everything into an operation, blood, sweat, tears and love and in an instant it’s swept away. A change like that can cause a huge amount of depression. And of course the town won’t hesitate to stop and express their concern so it keeps getting dug up. Very sad!!

Milk prices tanked? I don't understand. How can it be that milk is at an all-time cheap price when I am paying more for milk than I have ever paid in my life?! I am paying $3.99 a gallon at my local grocery store. Does anyone but me remember when milk was $.99 a gallon? So, who is getting all the money I pay for milk that (apparently) dairy farmers are not getting for their milk? Do we have too many middlemen taking profits out of the middle? Someone should look into this. Something doesn't smell right about this.
