I've watched countless other performances of this solo, as it is one of my favorites to both play and listen to, and this is easily the best performance I have ever seen.

What the hell do you mean, not all marimba pieces are lovey dovey and your suppose to play soft on. There are a couple songs where you have to hit it hard otherwise you come off as lethargic. She’s hitting it hard for a reason, and it’s also a god dam lot harder to hit it hard than soft because half way through the piece your hands are already dying. She’s hitting it hard for a reason

Kushal Boggavarapu I meant that I didn’t exactly prefer her aggressive approach to this piece, especially in the beginning. I prefer a more melancholy and rich sounding approach to the introduction of this piece. I’m well aware that not all pieces are “lovey dovey”. I’ve played this piece among many others, of which some were “lovey dovey” and some you “have to hit it hard”. I tend to let my mallet selection dictate the majority of my “hard hitting”, i think there’s a fundamental high end to which you can hit the marimba before it no longer sounds pleasing.
The word i’m looking for is “harsh”. It feels harsh at the beginning. Too much bite for my personal taste.

Christina knows what she's doing, and she does it exceptionally well.

@@itsjim2875Nobody said anything to the contrary.
I have a doctorate in percussion. I play this piece (and the instrument) differently and don’t like her approach. That doesn’t make it bad. I just don’t like it. I’m not a huge fan of the approach that Zeltsman teaches.
That’s it. It’s not that deep.
