While the term "Miao" is much more specific now than is used to be, there is no one language for the Miao people in China. More commonly known as Hmong in the west, all the Miao people are grouped together since they speak a Hmongic language.
That's like the difference between government policies in different countries, Miao people in China are also divided into more specific geo-linguistic groups
Great insights! Every ethinic group in China has their own unique culture and crafts. In fact, For miao people, they are super diversed, there are over 100 diffirent branches of miao people in China, and every branch has their own dialects and traditional customes. Interestingly, the branches differenciate from each other through their traditional clothes and hairstyles. The customes showing in the video belongs the miao people from "施洞Shidong” and “施秉Shibing”counties which is in the south-east part of Guizhou province in China.
What beautiful work! I was wondering if it would be possible to buy one but since it takes 6 years to complete I think not, oh well I guess I can always admire it from afar😁❤️
not all their pieces take that long to complete (and some take even longer!). chances are, because she made it for herself, she probably took her time. but they do sell embroidered pieces.
Have Miao separated from Hmong? Miao is what the Chinese called us but these people seem a bit different from Hmong. The embroidery style seems different too.
J3LL1 DR4GON Miao is just a blanket term for the ethnicities that speak a Hmongic language. A lot of Miao also don't like to be called Hmong, since Hmong people have incorporated more Southeast Asian culture than Han Chinese. There's also the fact that the Hmong languages spoken in Guizhou are different than the ones spoken here in America.
miao is a multicultural group include hmong and some other related groups with hmong. they are all being different to each other, but they are the same at some point, too.
I think it is actually the other way around, Hmong 'separated' from Miao(I don't agree with the separate part, it's just people preferring different terms), some facts: 1.around 9.4 million Hmong/Miao people live in China, larger than Hmong/Miao population in other countries combined 2.Largest Hmong/Miao-majority(63.3%) city(Kad Linx/Kaili/凯里) is in China, total population~656,100 3.Largest Hmong/Miao tribal-village is in China, unfortunately there is no English/Hmong wiki page of it, copy paste the Chinese characters '西江千户苗寨' and see what it's like on Google image, RUclips etc 4.Hmong/Miao people are more commonly believed to have origins in China initially and moved to Southeast Asia throughout history, there is a picture of it in 'Hmong people' wiki page 5.Hmong is the common term in the west because 'Hmong' is more commonly used in Southeast Asian countries which more Hmong/Miao people had migrated from, there's no right or wrong here, Hmong and Miao are still the same nation in most senses, no separation
This Embroidery is Absolutely Stunning! Amazing. India also had a rich tradition of fabric dying which the western world destroyed and recreated as a chemical industry.
China was famous for embroidery and India for its intricate weaves
Wow that's amazing, just by doing by hand takes alot of time
BEAUTIFUL
I would have guessed those pieces were from central america, they remind me of Peruvian art. I've never seen anything like this style come from china.
