My dad cosplays with me, he's cosplayed our past two conventions, at first he said he only did it to support me & my hobbies but now he admits he loves it, I've converted him into a cosplayer 😂
My parents were a little hesitant when I started cosplaying, but after seeing how happy I was (especially because when I started I had just moved and wasn’t coping well with it at all) and how creative I could get they became really supportive and are always excitedly asking about what cosplay I’m going to work on next :) Also each time my dad sees merch of a character that I’ve cosplayed he’ll point it out and be like “hey that’s your guy!!” which I find really cute lol
This was so wholesome! Your dad provided so much insight and its clear he really cares about your passion for cosplay. I would be interested to know how your dad felt about RUclips. My parents were pretty supportive of my cosplay, but they did not like RUclips, especially when I was just starting out.
I did my very first cosplay a month ago around Halloween, and surprisingly after 3 years they brought back ComicCon in my country! My country is really really small, so ComicCon wasn't that big, but it was still fun! I cosplayed as toga since she's a favorite and a nice first cosplay, I every made her bloodsucker gear myself!! I'm waiting for next year and I'm already planning for my second cosplay! Love your vids!!
Im so glad that my kids have a cosplayer for a dad. My oldest is really excited about cosplay and has gone to several cons in cosplay with me. My parents never wouldve done that with me. If they choose to keep on the cosplay path, i cant wait yo see what they make over the years.
So I have a pretty strict mother, however she always knew I was a huge nerd specifically I had a show I was super obsessed with (and still am) called RWBY. Basically I got into cosplay cause I saw one of Anyas older videos of a RWBY cosplay and was like "OMG you can do that?!?" and proceeded to info dump on my mom and then drag her to a convention in my home made Umbreon (the pokemon) cosplay I made :)
My dad and I are going to cosplay fnaf together for this next convention! I'm cosplaying shattered roxanne wolf and he's going to cosplay a nightguard. I'm super excited for it
Your dad is such a smart and insightful guy! I wanted to suggest another thing to young cosplayers if you're worried about your parents misinterpreting the show. If the character is quite innocent and covered up that you wish to cosplay, find or make compilation videos of just that character !
My dad isn’t super thrilled I spend so much on cosplay, but he’s relieved that I’m putting my efforts into a productive hobby, as opposed to vices such as drugs and alcohol, like others my age
I'm glad your Dad is so supportive, Anya. My wife & I have always supported my daughter's cosplay since she started making her own outfits 7 years ago. We both dress up as well now because we've also fallen in love with making cosplay & attending Cons. Yet another great video, Anya. Keep them coming x
I swear you are so lucky to have a dad that supports you're hobby of cosplaying! My parents (especially my dad) doesn't really support it mostly because they say it's a waste of money and don't really see that I enjoy doing it and have fun. My mom is more like (oh that's cool tell me more) and usually ask some questions about the character and the makeup I do but she's not too involved into it but I'll take what I can get. I can feel the positive energy as I listen to this tho great video!
My parents have always supported my cosplaying journey they always want pictures whenever I go to cons they love all the friends I’ve made along the way . They always want to hear what project I’m working on for my next convention and have always encouraged me to keep creating .
I loved this video! It was so wholesome and your dad's view was really good! I think all of the points you two touched on were all really good and important for parents and also their kids to understand. Cosplay is an amazing hobby and there's SO many skills you can learn from it!
My parents, even if sometimes wary, have been supporting my cosplay since I started years ago. For a long time they helped me pay for a good chunk of my costumes, and now as an adult I'm able to pay for my own (wow it can be expensive...). But even if they can be a bit strict or worry about my safety or don't fully understand it, they realize how much work I put into it and how passionate I am. I'm really grateful for that. (Now to get them to finally cosplay WITH me.... hehe)
When I was younger (middle school/high school) I was really into drama and was in a lot of stage plays and on the forensics team so my parents were used to me being into acting and costumes, so when I started cosplaying in college my parents didn't think it was a big change. They worried about my going off for full weekends to conventions, even if I was with friends, because they didn't understand that aspect. I was still living at home as I went to a local college, so it's not like I was living on my own in a dorm like many college age students get to do, so they hadn't learned to fully let go and let me control my own life without asking "Hey can I go hang out with friends this weekend?" or whatever. But they tried their best to not try and control me. I just had to reassure them that I was being safe, staying in groups, and not wandering big cities alone at night.
This was super cute! And definitely not a topic I ever see cosplayers talking about! It's super cool that you touched on this. My dad always low key encouraged my cosplaying and going to conventions because he himself was really into sci-fi and he had wanted to go to conventions when he was a kid. My mom thought (and still thinks) it's stupid. I think she's very embarrassed by me cosplaying and going to conventions. Oh well, I'm an adult with adult money, so she can't stop me now lol.
With me i was forced to quit cosplaying because my parents felt i was too old for it already when i was 21 and my dad felt its unprofessional to have that hobby since it will lessen my chance of getting employed due to the fear of ruining the companys image, at that time i was on my last year of college where my dad insisted i quit after graduating. Im from a conservative chinese family where relatives judged cosplaying which was also a factor in my parents forcing me to quit At that time i was so frustrated with many regrets wishing i started earlier because my dream was to be a cosplay celebrity like yaya han but sadly i didnt get to start when i was a teen since at that time cosplay stuff werent easy access and affordable unlike now and that time i still cosplayed was when cosplay stuff were starting to be more easy access. Somehow after i quit i accepted it thinking cosplaying wasnt for me afterall but i did miss it especially after watching a good show or anime where i wished i could cosplay as someone, that time too i also gave up on my dream of being a cosplay celebrity thinking it will remain a dream Two years ago i met a wonderful cosplayer through a good friend of mine who inspired me to cosplay again because i fell in love with her works, i also developed a crush on her, which made me pick up on my dream. Fortunately i was able to talk it out with my parents with cosplaying that long story short it worked out where theyre cool with even if im almost 30 it to the point theyre my fans too, i just started cosplaying again last month and now im taking sewing lessons so im on the road to my dream of being a cosplay celebrity
i was scared talking about wanting to cosplay with my parents at first too but then my aunt kinda did that part for me hahah she talked to me about wanting to go to a book and manga convention last year cause she is a big book fan in general and since she has seen me read manga very often before she asked me if i wanted to come along i was hoping for this to be my chance to ask my parents if i could start doing cosplay than my aunt asked me if i wanted to go as a specific character cause she had seen many cosplayers at this con the years before my parents were sitting at the same table as while i was talking to her and so my aunt really helped me with getting the courage to start doing cosplay my parents have been encouraging me since they knew i wanted to do cosplay too
I actually never talked with them i just cosplayed around the House and they didnt even ask and Then one day i just asked if we could go to a convention and my mom just said “sure if we have time” and that was really awsome😂
Oh haven't you heard? It's 2022, cringe is dead, instead we let people do what they're passionate about without ridicule. We're also gonna stop infantilizing women by calling them girls. 😊
@@AnyaPanda what the hell?? I'm not saying that the things you do today are cringe, I'm talking about the things you mentioned in the videos when you were a teenager (like the Mario Kart poem)

As a parent I encouraged my daughter to cosplay. We go to all the anime conventions in FL.. She loves it but it does get expensive

Excited to watch this. Apparently this was up for only a minute before I started watching. Weirdly very early.

On the flipside, was your dad always interested in photography, or did he get into it to help with photographing your cosplays?
He's always been into photography.
That's actually so useful to many people

My parents thought it was weird when i first started, but now a decade later, he goes to cons too! He doesn’t cosplay but it’s nice being supported

my parents are still in the box of "there's no point in doing it unless you're competing and winning money". I'm 28...
My parents support it because it's me trying to power through social anxiety and it forces me in front of a camera. although i do have to pay for it
Also, your dad looks like Mark Pelligrino.
Oh my word--
I want a part 2 and that video should be about being the father of a girl who did a lot of cringe stuff
