I think the most terrifying thing that I recall of this is that there's art of Arvis using Valflame on Sigurd, and his entire body is engulfed in flames like a man who's being incinerated, but Sigurd still fighting in game. The man is still alive as he's burning to cinders
Picture the scene in a remaster: Arvis summons the the “hellfire” part of which takes the form of demons made of fire both surrounding and raining down from above. You then watch the party fight back with everything they have, but are slowly killed off a few at a time. I could see the last few, including Sigurd, charging at Arvis but again each of them falls one by one until it’s only Sigurd who manages to get close, only to be impaled by spears made of fire raining down from above. Arvis walks in close smiles and watches the life drain from his eyes as he burns away.
This is the first time a Lord character was canonically killed... there's nothing funny about this. But hope still lives... in Sigurd's own son, Seliph.
