I sang I'd Rather Live While I'm In Love. Among all the students, she chose 5 of us and made us perform everytime there's a school event.

I can't emphasize it enough how singing is so much a part of our culture. And yes, Ballad is King. When I was 4, I didn't know how to read or write but I knew the lyrics to 'I Have You' by the Carpenters. My father had a collection of LP's and he'd play it everyday. In school, we had music classes that mostly teaches us Gospel songs. There are choir competitions, singing competitions and school events that always involves singing.

a few of my colleagues hates it when I randomly sing in the office not because of my bad voice (I can carry a tune a little) albeit only the timing. what happens is that everytime I'm in deep thought or stressful situation, I would randomly sing softly songs usually from the 90's. After a while, those around me unconsciously would sing a long with me. They hate it because they would have LSS(last song syndrome) and for the whole day the song would be stuck in their head sometimes lasting until the next day.

I guess Philippines is really different coz in school we encourage kids to show us their talents. We have this subject MAPEH that starts from grade2 til high school, where we let children dance, sing, draw, act, orate or do sports.
So that teacher's will know who's most likely to be the dancer, singer, sportsman, orator, artist, actor, etc. 😄
Then we make them show it during special events at least, like school contests/competitions, intramurals, even in flag ceremonies. Haha 😂
Projects or group projects can be related to singing, dancing, drawing or such and that's the start of it all.

    Music in pH is life
...and singing is like it's blood. From toddlers to college we where encourage to sing. Fun fact, mostly filipino's know or familiarize the rhythm and melody of the song before the lyrics of it.. sometimes we just sing the song on melody but the lyrics is different bcoz we don't memorize the lyrics. And also we can hear it thru radio stations everyday..so it's just listening to a song always make s you a singer...ha ha...so your reactions about singing in pH...God bless you guys..

9:57 its Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough by American singers Patty Smyth and Don Henley in 1992. The early 90s showcased much rock ballads from the West. You can still hear a lot of these songs played in FM radios, specially during commuting hours (both in the morning and evening) and weekends.

Oh no waleska :(( I never really realized that but that i guess is one of the things to be proud of of our education system. There are lots of extracurricular activities: celebration of national language, nutrition month, teachers' day, Christmas, founding anniversaries, festivals, etc. And in all those activities, there are always singing or dancing competitions or intermission numbers from the students. Those events really served as platforms for the students to showcase their talents. We were lucky to have those

You'll get ask to sing in a party or any event IF only there would be a chance since a lot can sing and want to sing. Hope you could check out Lea singing Alone by Heart in a bar. It was an impromptu, she's just out with friends but since the audience saw her presence so she was asked to sing on stage.

True. It is the case in most South East Asia. Kereoke is a way of life for many folks. I used to frequent Chinese bars in Singapore and most will take a turn on the mike. No matter how good it bad people have fun.

Filipinos will always have family gatherings where the aunties/uncles/grandparents pay the children to perform. It can end up like a yearly talent show during Christmas.

I see a lot of your content about the Filipino and how they are so encouraging others to sing. For you to fully understand the culture you must understand first the food. How its so associated with family and good times. Maybe its time for you to review and taste test our food..
