Like you said it can be helpful, same as having info about opponents moves in strategy games where by game design they shouldn't, although is cheating, can help you learn to read those moves without help of the cheating tool. TAS is a cheating tool, in this example used fairly (not to cheat) and to advantage of the game and community. In trackmania this is also the case but there were many instances of people trying to cheat with TAS (I don't know of any that wasn't cought)
