    I think they might've forgotten the Optane... it's supposed to be an M.2 and OEMs are known for forgetting to add custom upgrades from time to time. There are plenty of videos of people buying PCs from say Dell or HP (or any other OEM at that) and they missed an upgrade or more so I mean this is probably moot as you're gonna check the system anyways and get it as bare-bones as possible for the sake of the video series but unless the SSD storage itself and the Optane are on the same M.2 module it looks like the kinda thing where you might have to contact HP unfortunately.
    Also, on a sidenote those HP Torx/Flathead combo screws are the bane of my existence... I mean I have a Torx-head and flathead anyways but I'm just saying a higher-up at HP must've had a traumatizing experience with a Philip's head (not to laugh at their expense though, it just makes me wonder why they do that...)

    • @TheBrokenTech
      @TheBrokenTech  2 года назад +2

      I've already had a call with HP and they claim the Optane is supposed to be integrated on to the board (or, as you say, maybe it is integral to the SSD?)... I have my doubts. I haven't yet powered it up, so maybe it is?
      Come from the Automotive world, I'd pay extra for a vehicle with no torx fasteners. My Jeep is full of them and I've replaced many of them with regular hex heads.

      @ZenDeividdo 2 года назад +2

      @@TheBrokenTech Come to think of it, the M.2 module used for Optane is blue, same color as the one on the HP. Since the board is proprietary I'm sure the Optane could very well be integrated too.
      Oof... my knowledge on automotive is extremely limited but I can only imagine how much a pain it would be working with Torx on a car and I'd pay extra too just to have regular hex instead too.
      Merry Christmas!

    • @TheBrokenTech
      @TheBrokenTech  2 года назад +2

      Hummmm.... I guess the first thing to do is simply observe the drive more carefully to see if it's an optane drive. This is making more and more sense.
      On cars what happens with Torx is they fill up with dirt and then immediately corrode.At least in my part of the world, they require removal with a torch most of the time. Yuck. Hard pass.
      Merry Christmas to you as well!

    Never liked the fact that OEM machines lack so much I/O and even more expensive 1000$+ computers still lack. 4 USB ports in the back and doesn't even get an optical audio output is not cutting it for me. Not to mention the proprietary PSU and connectors which would make it a pain to replace if it fails. Consumer grade OEM PCs don't really cut it for me

They have a 500w HP Psu upgrade option but realistically.. Not worth it. My end conclusion is. I'm buying a case and motherboard. Swapping everything off the board in the HP into the new case and motherboard. Then I'm tossing out the motherboard and case and psu that came with the APU and GPU/Ram M.2 and SSD

    • @DeeKnow
      @DeeKnow Год назад

      I spent 300$ to buy this HP and I equate that to spending it on a 1660 Super, a Ryzen 5600g, 32gb DDR4 3200mhz Ram, a 512 m.2 ssd and a 2tb SSD when it all comes down to it. The case PSU and Mobo are trash, there is zero thermal fan control its all automated and the bios is so heavily locked down its not worth it. The PSU and MOBO are proprietary. They will not work with anything but the HP stuff they were made for.

      Really, it's that's not so bad depending on exactly when you bought it. Just the processor in that machine is currently about 40% of that $1035.
      That said, I always recommend that people try to order direct from the manufacturer whenever they can. The pricing is usually better and your warranty support odds improve _slightly._ HP is currently selling a higher spec machine than yours for about $100 less than you paid. If you just brought yours home, return it and buy from them directly. Or... Go for a TP01-3025 and save about 30% by choosing an i5 over the i7. The TE01-2260t is also pretty appealing right now.
      Anyhow, I'm sure your present machine, or any of the others mentioned, will be more than enough to benefit her education for several years to come. You did fine. 👍

    It does make me think how hard it is to get subs on RUclips. You said you were waiting for the 50k subs and its only 200 after a year. I think one issue is that there needs to be a channel focus where there's a theme. Thats how people sub. And of course the number of videos. Its really hard to grow on RUclips, need to put a lot of work into it. Like any business. Also RUclips should make it possible to subscribe to Channel playlists and not just the whole channel. That would make it possible for a channel to have a wider focus and still get people interested. I wonder what algorthsm RUclips uses to decide what videos to suggest. I think its only regular channels with regular videos. And they probably use various other decisions.

    • @TheBrokenTech
      @TheBrokenTech  Год назад +1

      The first half of this year I only released 3 videos on this channel and in 2022 there have only been 8 so far. In that time, 153 people have subscribed. I actually think that's doing pretty well. Had I really been working at it and publishing at least once a week, that would be over 1k subs in the same period of time if the ratio were the same. Usually growth is exponential, so it would have probably been more like 2-3k by now. But... we'll never know. I also don't do anything but RUclips. I don't promote my content anywhere else. No Twitter, no Instagram, etc. That makes things pretty slow too.
      That said, I have been intentionally slow walking the content here because my monetized RUclips channel (The Broken Life) is financially supporting this one _and_ all of equipment. It paid for the HP, it paid for the AVerMedia capture card, a handful of upgrade parts for future videos, a new camera system that I'm still trying to get my mind around, and all of the operating overhead. At the start of 2022 I decided that I was unwilling to carry the full weight of the businesses' expenses out of my own pocket. It will either sink or swim based on its own earnings (more or less), so this is the pace that has been set by what RUclips can pay for.
      As regards growing on RUclips, your assumptions are all pretty much correct as far as I understand it. RUclips rewards consistency in pretty much every way. Upload videos on extremely similar topics at extremely similar intervals which people watch a reasonable percentage of and you will be promoted to more potential viewers. Don't do one of those things, and you will be punished. Then there's the odd ball events like RUclips taking one of my 2 year old videos and suddenly pushing it on tons of people who watched it, liked it, subscribed to the channel, and advertisers were paying good rates to run ads on it. Then RUclips basically turned their promotion off after a week or two. I have no idea why they promoted it when they did or what I did to make them stop. It just happened. In my opinion, that video isn't even that good. So... I won't really claim to know all of the magic either. But... More content is better than less, that's for sure.
      Then there's the 3rd way for your channel to gain traction: get recognized in Google search results. I have been outright shocked that a handful of my videos are now front page Google results as certain search terms. It doesn't happen fast, but it can happen. Most of my content seems to be more of a simmer than a boil, which I'm personally OK with.
      Anyhow, if you're here for HP content you shouldn't have to wait _too_ much longer. I have a few lined up for this channel that will go first, but I hope to be publishing weekly soon, at least for awhile. With any amount of luck, I may be able to keep that pace for some time to come.

    • @pinecedar180

      @@TheBrokenTech Thanks for the reply! Interesting thoughts yea. Yea definitely RUclips wants the frequent uploads on similar topics. Ah so you got another channel thats good, I see it now. I've always wished I had RUclips income but it takes a lot of work. Its definitely a full time job and one has to find a passion or a focus. And it takes time for the momentum to grow in order for the money stream to be good and steady. Old videos coming up is probably because of people searching for a certain term or phrase in RUclips or clicking on videos for those terms at that time (if a topic became temporarily popular). And then the fever subsides for that topic or news item etc and it goes back down. Alright that is cool, good luck with this channel! Maybe another of your videos will come up when I search something :D

    • @TheBrokenTech
      @TheBrokenTech  Год назад +1

      @@pinecedar180 It does take a lot of work, but once you get going it's just sort of a natural thing to always have it on your mind and have videos in process in your free time. I decided early on that I make videos for myself that I _hope_ other people may like, so it's pretty low pressure for me most days. I never set out to become viral or some huge megachannel. I just do my thing as well as I can and whatever happens, happens.
      And... I always tell people who are thinking of starting a channel that they should. Today. Right now.
      People always make excuses not to start, but if you stick to it for a bit someone *WILL* watch your content and by the time you have a handful of subs you'll be someone's favorite channel. It's crazy, but it's true. If you decide to go down that road, let me know if I can help.
