It's because she's singing in a lower key than she typically does. More of her chest voice than her higher register. I really like her in this range too. She undoubtedly sounds great.

I think getting cast in Wicked has been so good for her. She's learning broadway skills and how to sing in a healthy way. She's not forcing it, there's not much strain. This is a great performance.
She started as a Broadway actress on 13.

The work is paying off, I love this new sound, I love the healthy voice.

It just occurred to me that people have been on her about her diction since the beginning, so it makes sense she improved it for Broadway.

That has to be the best live visual-performance that I have ever seen. Whoever set up that dynamic 3-sided backdrop needs an award in stage design!

Totally agree. It was brilliant because there were elements that were purely visual and some were actual set pieces (couch) and then at the end the lighting layers in the snow, so you keep guessing what’s what. I was waiting for snowflakes to start landing on her clothes. It was unreal.

2:14 and 2:23 I think these parts are lipped. They're a bit too quiet and her tone is more light and chipmunkish only for those two lines, just like how she sang it in the studio version, while she sings the rest of the song with a deeper tone. The camera zooming out also adds to my suspicion.

The way she's basically crying out the "I'll wait for your love" parts of the song, those are the cries of pain. 😭 Hoping that a loved one will come back to you, that they'll find the love they once had for you and come back, even though you know that maybe it's best if you're just alone but can't let go ("so for now, it's only me... and maybe that's all I need"). The lyrics are so heavy with emotion.

@@Vamusika I imagine it's at least partly to do with her being in the upcoming Wicked movies. Musical Theatre in general takes a lot of clarity and great technique, but the role of Glinda in Wicked is particularly challenging. She *had* to sharpen up her technique and that work really shows here.

This is maybe the first time i've heard some nervious and pitchy things in her voice and it even feels good, They are humans, live things and its hard to try to hide it through your voice and we should support and understand how vulnerable is a moment with a personal song. Sounds beautiful anyway, just more human.

Her voice in this performance is actually WAAAAY THICKER on the lower/longer notes part... (If you wanna compliment her, PLEASE say something that is the truth... DON'T fucking kiss her ass JUST because she's a celebrity... 🙄) I actually don't really appreciate. (But her voice is also too soft or breathy for me to comfortably listen to like at the 1st sentence of the bridge, even though that sounds EXACTLY how is it like in the studio version.) Her voice during My Everything era at 2014, 2015 is my FAVORITE of hers. Sounds bright, clear, and powerful at the same time.
