  • One of the most frustrating thing that happens while performing home improvement projects is facing stripped screws or dead screw heads that cannot be removed by a simple screw or drill driver.
Many times I have been able to escape by using the simple rubber band trick together with my Stanley FATMAX Stubby Rachet Screwdriver but this one time I finally had to bite the bullet while trying to remove the two stubborn and utterly destroyed screws in order to change my PVC french door european cylinder locks.
I got to know about the extraction bits through some tutorials and most of them are quite affordable. As someone who does quite a lot of DIY projects and maintenance around the house, I took a leap of faith with the Damaged Screw Extractor(DSE01) 18 pcs set by TACKLIFE on Amazon.
Basically it contains 2 sets of 8 bit sizes from 2 mm to 12 mm with 2 different sized bit holder. It can be used with either your usual drill driver, wired hand drill or even the rotary tool like the dremel for more delicate jobs.
In my video, I demonstrated the screw removal process with the RYOBI 18V ONE+ Brushless Drill Driver (R18DD5-0) while I removed the problematic screws from my doors using the Black and Decker 600W wired hand drill (KR604CRESK). Both electric tool works fine with the extraction bits with no issues.
Other than a little learning curve when performing the extraction procedure, it is fairly simple and really fast with no damages if done right. This extraction set earned its place in my toolbox and I definitely recommend having a set if you have not gotten one yet.
I hope my video helped in making your purchasing decision. Thank you for watching!

Sorry about the music, the video was edited long ago using Windows Movie Maker and I was recording with a headset microphone as well.
Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it. Cheers.

I have the same problem when trying to replace the lock on my door. I found the screw on the lock completely stripped.
How did you manage to fix it pls ?

Hello, I'm sorry you're facing the same problem and I know how annoying it is. By using the technique in this video, I first widened the stripped screw by drilling it, just enough to fit the extractor bit.
And once you get that to fit, you'll be able to follow the extraction process. That should remove the screw.
      Hope that helps.

Yeah, it's scrap wood. So it probably had some humidity in it.

Thank you for reaching out. I'm sure you can find a screw extractor kit that works with the size of the screws of your laptop.
You can possibly reuse the same technique in this video for removing your laptop screw. Hope that helps.
