    this has always one of the books that you really have to read knowing that everything in there is not serious and honestly treat it like, say if you're reading idk the equivalent of a sitcom

      you are so right, i really wished it had worked for me but maybe i'm not so good at suspending disbelif as I wished I was. That's why I was confused that I loved Erha (the husky and his white cat shizun), because I think to enjoy that one you also have to know it's not serious at all 😅I guess we can't love them all!

      @@bookswithlau I'll have to admit I actually detest mxtx and meatbun novels 😥😥😭😭even though I love individual aspects eg. the world setting of tgcf, character powers of 2ha- side note, have you considered reading other novels that don't have official translations yet cause all my all time faves are ones that don't have actual official tls

    • @bookswithlau
      @bookswithlau  10 месяцев назад

      @@beepboopbaap2511 I've considered, but I'm still unsure because since it's not the official translation the author doesn't get paid when you read them, so I feel bad about that. Some people have told me that there are translations where you have to pay for the original work in order to access them, but I still haven't properly investigated how that works 😅 I think I'm first going to start the ones that are being officially translated (i still have the ones by priest and Thousand Autumns on my tbr, do you like those?), when I run out of them I may decide to keep reading the ones that haven't been officially translated. Which ones are your favorites?

    • @beepboopbaap2511
      @beepboopbaap2511 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@bookswithlau that's a super valid and fair point to make- usually the translator will have a post somewhere explaining how proof of purchase works (through discord or dms is the usual method I believe though)
      My favourites are 'A Certain Someone' by Musuli and 'Poyun' or 'Tunhai' by Huai Shang.
      Priest novels are great- her worldbuilding is amazing (my personal favourite is 'Can Ci Pin').
      Thousand Autumns is actually another one of my absolute favourites although there are also warnings to be aware of- but it's a novel best appreciated complete due to the scale of the story. Meng Xi Shi (the author of Thousand Autumn) also has another book in the same universe as TA called 'Peerless' which I actually love more but not sure if that's been licensed yet.
      (my personal taste is novels with a heavy focus on plot, realism or worldbuilding though which all these novels do kind of reflect 🥲🥲 )

      @@beepboopbaap2511 omg I'm so glad you loved A Thousand Autumns! It's the next one on my list 🥰 I watched the donghua so I'm really excited to read the original. Also, I think I wouldn't mind that it's focused on the fantasy and plot and the romance is more in the background. I love high adult fantasy and it usually has no romance so, as long as the fantasy keeps me entertained, I'm game. But that little romance is always appreciated 😌😂
      It's interesting what you said about the unofficial translations, I'll have to look it up once I run out of the official ones. Thank you so much for sharing your favs!!💛 I also have to try priest soon 🤩🤩

    as someone who's favorite danmei is svsss, i understand it might not be for everyone. i am also one of the people that thinks that the "sex" scene was perfect for the message that mxtx was trying to convey, but obviously it is not something that can be handled by everybody, and that's ok. even if it was technically xin mo that caused that scene, it doesn't make it less horrifying. if reading something makes you uncomfortable, you shouldn't do it. take care of yourself

      Thank you so much for your message! 💛 I really wanted to like that scene so I read a lot of analysis but I couldn't shake the feeling of how it made me feel when i first read it 😭 I'm really happy to hear that you love it! 😊

    I have finished the fourth book today. I understand why you were uncomfortable during the "sex" scene (if it could be called that) in the third book. When I was reading it I was kind of taken aback, like what is this? Why is it like that? But eh, I moved on.
    The fourth book is just extra stories, some are continuation of the main story, you even get a "redo" of the sex, even Luo Binghe stubbornly refuses to admit that anything happened in the the third book. There are only about two sex scenes in the the whole book and both are fairly normal (or normal for MXTX - sort of Mo Dao Zu Shi style). The rest of the stories are fun, some are sort of heartbreaking, others give more depth to some characters... If you liked the story but hated the romance then just skip the first short story and then anything that has to do with that Chunshan fanfic that was circulating in that world :)

      Thank you for the explanation! 💛 i might those stories then, or maybe just the smut, I don't really like the way MXTX writes it 😅 I wished I could forget easily about that scene, I think it was because i really wasn't expecting it. I moved on from the scenes in MDZS, they didn't even make me uncomfortable because I already knew how they were going to be like 😂

    I agree with you 10000% on everything you said in this video!! I loved SVSSS book 1, the premise was amazing and it was super funny and I liked book 2 as well but not as much as the first one since I didn't like how Luo Binghe was less 'golden retriever-like' and I agree with you about the 3rd book and that one scene - really didn't like the way their relationship went:/ I loved Shen Qingqiu but really didn't like Luo Binghe by the end, I think I started to dislike him more and more as the story went on.
    so yeah this is my least favorite of MXTXs series and my least favorite danmei that I've read so far because of how it progresses / ends:/ TGCF is my fave but I agree that it starts very slow and I find that whenever there's flashbacks or large parts without Hua Cheng it takes me awhile to push through it

    • @bookswithlau
      @bookswithlau  10 месяцев назад +1

      I'm sorry that you also didn't like the third book 😭 Yes! My problem is that I don't know if Luo Binghe was done that way on purpose, because this is a parody and there are things that aren't well done on purpose but I still wished at least Luo Binghe was a character that made a bit more sense. But that's because of my personal taste, I know other people adore Luo Binghe. At least he was original, we can give MXTX that 🤣 My favorite so far by MXTX is MDZS. I have a bit of a problem with the mix of comedy and tragedy in TGCF and I struggle with the POV a bit more than in MXTX because Xie Lian barely tells you anything LOL But I ADORE watching the donghua, I'm so excited for season 2 🥳🥳

    Was curious to know how in journey would end but honestly, kind of knew that you might not love it all the way to the end when I first saw you picking it up. (just a guess biased on your personality)🤗.
    (want to respect the authors choices) but really really wish it had ended a different way (to this day) because no matter how much time passes it doesn't become any less uncomfortable.
    The content being fiction helped a lot with the acceptance aspect for some (myself) but really don't continue to read the story if it makes you feel uncomfortable in any way even if someone might argue that book 4 is just extra stories.
    Glad you liked the parts that you did like. Until next time.

      forgive me if there are any other mistakes, not my first language😅😅😅.

      OMG! Your guess was so right 👏 Yes, for me it helps being fiction sometimes. For example, I was sure I wasn't going to like Erha (first volume) and I ended up loving it because my brain is wired differently when it comes to danmei books. It's like it's easier to differenciate from reality. I wished it was the same way here, but it was way too uncomfortable for me. I think it didn't help that I didn't know it was going to be that way, i was expecting the smut of your average mm romance. You are right though, it's the author's work and we have to respect it, but that doesn't take from the fact we might not like it. Other people did so, at the end of the day, it depends on the reader ✨ also, english is not my first language either, I commit mistakes all the time so please don't worry 💛🙂
