Ransom been my goat since middle school..im loving these ransom reviews...you should check out his older shit like pain and glory 2 , and pain and glory the album.
What year was middle school for you brodie? Preciate that bro!! Bet you right! My intro to him was the directors cut series was was pretty hook since. I used to be really big into battle rap because they the best punchers in rap and Ransom gave me that same feeling!
@@BSideRapReviews Thats Dope man! im happy hes finally getting his just due. ive been rocking with ransom since his Dessert Storm Days. He was in a group called A-Team back in the day. i started middle school in 2001.but around 03-04 is when i started really checking for his shit. i say all the time dessert storm record label had the best roster! Fabolous, Joe Budden, Ransom, Stack Bundles, Hitchcock, Paul Cain. Those were the days man i feel old lol
B Side the GOAT back at it. Been a min so first and foremost praying the lil one is well. As for the EP I’m just amazed that with all of the material Ran has put out he still finds a way to create top tier lyricism. Like my man said he uses a few of the same flips but it’s almost expected. As far as pure rhyme skill without trying to over emphasize the fact he can rap by being too abstract or rapping words just to rap I place him at the top of the list right with Thought. Would still like to see a change in production at times. I thought V Don gave exactly what he needs. 🫡 my brother
You 💯 about us needing a full-length or EP w/ Ran, Spesh, & Che just trading bars like it's hot potato. Bruh, I thought I was only one who thought duffle be flipping too many Giannis bars 😂 He mentions angel & broken wings a tad bit often too lol but I guess that's the caveat of being as active musically as he is. Anyways, always appreciate the top-notch breakdowns!
First time hearing that that’s dropping - that’s pretty sick!! As far as reaction tho - just being real, I only react to stuff that I think I can add value to and some abstract rappers I have a hard time adding value to. So if I’m not catching a lot of the lyrics on first listen, I might not drop a vid on even if the album is good so just heads up cus a lot of stuff from Mike in particular falls in that category
Hope your good. Haven't seen any new posts in 2 weeks. Not sure if it just because not many dope albums dropped or if it's something else. Hope you good homie and hoping to see more reviews coming soon
It's crazy that most people are not rocking with the production these Grand, epic beats with live instruments with these kind of medieval and epic chord progressions are so good to me, no rapper have beats like that. The horns on the first 2 beats are great, the strings on the song with spesh is amazing too, how are ppeople not liking those? Legit, Desolate One is one of the best beats of the year for me, perfect guitar sample. (That pedo bar was crazy as hell tho lol). His political/Ignorant bars were pretty cringe here but aside from those this project is amazing imo, better than most songs on No rest for the wicked or chaos is my ladder and even some stuff on DC4
I didn’t even know that! Ay but I can’t hold you - rappers don’t let me down so many times that i can’t trust album announcements until the album literally here 😂😂😂 Keeping hope alive tho lmao!!
@@BSideRapReviews I feel it but when Ran says he’s cooking he’s cooking. He is one of the rare few that comes through with what he says. His X account (formerly known as Twitter) keeps you updated on all his news. He interacts too.
@@BandsMaysTVCEO BET!! Excited to hear that then! Bro fact, I used to be wayyy more active on twitter and when I first got put onto ransom in 2020, I thought it was so dope that he interacted with his audience so much. Matter fact, the music reviewer that put me on to ransom had a ton of interactions with him which I thought was dope af!
@@BSideRapReviews I have never seen anything like that. In the 80s 90s and early 2000s it was unheard of. Now that rappers are using social media as a platform rap music is stronger than ever!
Dude needa lock in Alchemist or run it back with Statik cuz his beat selection aint it. But he is definitely one of the best rhymers on the planet without a doubt.
Hate to say it but you 100% right bro! I was just saying not to long ago that the thing was, back like 10 years ago - it was kinda a given that the best lyricists weren’t rapping over the best beats, but as of late there’s been a huge surge of great underground, not well known producers. Some rappers have taken advantage of that but some haven’t. Ransom so good that he’s going to thrive regardless of how good the production is but imagine if he had say Westside Gunn’s ear for beats - head be even more insane b
I’m on vacay til Thursday and I thought I was gonna try to do it while out of town but that’s looking kinda hard. Prob gon have to be this weekend. Same with the Armand Hammer joint
Another great review dawg. You be catching everything fr. It’s really impressive and shows how part of the culture you’ve been your whole life. Ransom has been on a GOAT tear and he’s one of the ones that’s redefining the bar for quantity and quality. Some mainstream rappers wait a year or multiple years to drop stuff that’s not nearly as good as your average Ransom project. He really has them bars that are relevant to life and the struggle and moral dilemmas and all dat. His rhyme schemes and use of entendres and references are as good as it gets. I agree though with your criticisms of his beat selection. I feel like he would work really well with someone like the Alchemist, Muggs, Madlib, Sadhugold, and a lot of others fr. Just less strings😂. The good string beats are fire such as a lot of the Craven ones but the hit or miss ones can really just come off bad. And just for variety’s sake he can switch it up more. He should have someone executive produce a project for him But either way Ransom is legend and this run is SPECIAL. Im looking forward to your Voir Dire review. Hopefully you can review both the tracks that are on streaming and the ones on the NFT site because both versions will have exclusive songs. Peace
Ayyy Preciate that bro!! Man I love punchlines - so it’s always fun tryna catch all the ones Ran be dropping! Yeah facts - honestly you can pretty much guarantee that the rapping is going to be elite with every project…can’t remember one where it wasn’t. It’s like dude just don’t run out of bars and when he get into that street talk bad, I can listen to him rap like that for hours straight! And yeah exactly what you said about the relevant bars and he’s able to do that in a interesting way. Bro I didn’t even think of him and sadhugold - that could be insaaaane! But yeah any of those rappers would be a dream. Would also love for him to do another joint with big ghost - their first one was dope! Haha yeah you right it’s really a certain type of string beat. Strings done right sound good but it be a certain type of strings where as soon as I hear them it’s like “this type of beat was cool 15 years ago” 😂. Big Ghost used a lot of strings on his album with Che noir earlier this year but they were all pretty fire. Yeah im like 99% sure I’m reviewing once it hits streaming (I tend to stay away from joints that ain’t). Had no idea that it had different songs on each platform but ima be sure to check out both!
I think you underselling the Giannis/honest and the AI bars. These EPs are Ransoms filler bars and they crushing alot of peoples best work. Good review as usual though.
That’s been the criticism with a lot of the top lyricists really since Nas’s era. I do think tho for a while, the underground producers just weren’t up to par with the mainstream ones, but now (I guess as a product of how widespread hip hop is plus technology) there’s even a ton of no named producers who are really good so there’s almost not an excuse for not having better production. I honestly think it just comes down to ransom doesn’t have a good ear for beats. And personally I think his rapping lets him get away with that but imagine if he had say Westside Gunn’s ear for beats 🔥🔥🔥
@BSideRapReviews I agree to an extent. I'm a NaS fan since Live at the BBQ and he unfairly got labeled as a bad beat picker, when in reality the beats he picked were not bad, but thy were not the Club friendly beats which were the type of beats his direct competition were picking, plus NaS and other great lyricist need beats where they can breathe. Ransom, 38 spesh are wonderful lyricists, which need simpler beats for their lyrics to flourish, but sometimes they are just too simple for my liking, exhibit A, this EP.
Ayo fam, me and another producer did a beat battle themed mixtape. I’d love to get a review from you to declare a winner. Let me know if that’s possible.
It’s honestly just a matter of who he works with imo. Ran don’t have that great of a ear for beats but when he’s working with a dope producer it tends to not matter. Like there’s a couple exceptions but basically his best projects are ones he did with craven who is fire, the one with v don who did great, and I’d even throw in his joint with big ghost.
