2021 I set out buy myself a brand new JD, I had enough cash to buy a nice new X300 series tractor. But first I went on the My Tractor forum to see which 300 to get and they all said use that same money to buy a nicely used and cared for X500 series from a trusted implement dealer and never look back. So I got me a nice X540 with the power assist bagger with 300hrs on it and I never looked back . One of the best purchases I`ve ever made.
I needed something to pick up leaves so I went to the JD dealer. Mine is a 2007 x540 also. I got the 47" snowblower, tiller, 14 bu Powerflow, and cart. Brand new everything was about 11k plus tax. My wife about killed me. But she came around loving the tiller and snowblower. My seat looked like yours, but since the plastic looked deformed, I just put on a new aftermarket seat. Still have original tires. But on second battery. Stays in the garage, so it looks good, no weathering. Wash it once a year. Love the Kawasaki engines in JD. Neighbors is on his 3rd B&S engine in his mower. Blew out the Cul-de-sac when the city's snowplow broke down Fun.
I’ve had my X540 now for 17 years I use it mainly for mowing our 1.5 acre meadow 👍 it’s been a fantastic machine and so reliable 🙏. May it live for another 17 years.
The key to longevity is being able to service them. In 2006 I bought a Husqvarna yth2348. It's not as beefy as yours, but it has grease fittings on almost all the moving parts. With yearly maintenance it's still running strong. Buy quality and it will last and pay dividends. The sad thing is most mowers nowadays aren't built to last.
And I thought mine was dirty. I have the exact same machine in the same year. Same tires too. Excellent machine if you do your maintenance. 650 hours and still going strong. Didn't like ethanol gas in the beginning. Had the carb ultrasound cleaned. Ran good for couple weeks and clogged up again. Ran ethanol free in it with a dose of Seafoam in every gas can and its been a champ ever since. Just replaced the original blades.
9/26/2022 Great video, very informative, hope your mum is doing ok, I have a question for you? How many hours on your machine? I’m currently looking at a 2013 with 800 hours
Thank you for making this. Most videos are about a different x500 that has a left pedal which this doesn't have. Will you make a video for removing and installing the mower deck? We just got one of these (used obviously) and we're finding the instruction manual to be inadequate.
I would be glad to! I'll try to do one this week. The X500s with the pedal on the left has the manual deck raise. It doesn't have the hydraulics to lift the deck, you have to push the pedal. Subscribe and hit that bell button so you will be notified when I post the video.

That's where I'm at right now. Looking at the x540 instead of a 235 JD
@@jeffdawes9029 it shouldnt take long to find one slightly used like mine which has also been well cared for, you wont regret buying it.

I’m not for sure, I’m thinking around 900, let me check and I’ll get back to you.

I got your video uploaded!
Does the zero-turn look as bad as that x540? Prayers for your mom.....
Thank you for the prayers. The zero-turn has definitely been used, it's a 2002 Dixie Chopper. I'll show it on here if you like.
