Wow. A lot of memories. And again, hot; did you do this in spring/summer of 2024? I looked before at a globe, at the latitude lines, and the same line goes through Shanghai and over to New Orleans, LA in the U.S., so these cities are definitely in the hot zone (some of my relatives are in New Orleans, which isn't all that for from Cuba in the Carribean). I had never realized how far south Shanghai is, until I did this, because on the map, it doesn't seem like it is so far south. We were on the 9 twisted bridge on my first or second trip, but then we left because the line wasn't moving, and it was so hot that day. And I've been to City God Temple; I remember so many deities on the inside, and Li Juan prostrating down to pray and give reverence, I think maybe that one was to Buddha? (I know she is Buddhist). My first trip; I didn't know about anything, and we walked everywhere (no Metro), from Yu Gardens to the Bund, to Nanjing Rd, to Peoples Park and the Shanghai Museum, then back to Waitan and the Bund. I almost died (but, being a man, I did not want to show my fatigue, weariness, and distress; so I persevered on !! ). This last trip, we did not go to Shen Da Chen, but there was a similar (but smaller) place right in that area, that we went to. And this last time, I asked her to take me to Da Shi Jie (The Great World), because that seemed like an amazing place. But that was back in the older days, I guess. She tried to convince me that not much was there these days, but I still wanted to go. The building itself is impressive, at night, but she was right, not a whole lot is going on over there, these days. It's more of a place from yesteryear, and it's had it's day, but I later learned that the first casualties of the attack on Shanghai in 1937 occurred right there in front of Da Shi Jie, where a plane bomb blew a crater open out in the street out front, and damaged the structure, killing a lot of people. Also, up by the Peace Hotel, right across there, on the Bund, at the other hotel, that one was also bombed by plane in 1937...
Happy New Year 2025 Frank, yeah, it was filmed in Jul 2024. I believe you enjoyed your trip last year😉. Da shijie was an entertainment club during the 30's, but it's not popular now. Maybe there are too much other places in Shanghai for people to explore, so Da shijie is forgotten.
