Very good video, i too miss those original theme and the idea that the recesion had an Impact on them didn't even come to my mind. But you know what i have hope for original theme coming back one day, yes the come back of some of them didn't work like castle (2013), pirate (2015) and ultra agents (but that's another story for another time), yet i think original theme can come back, not only those but also new IP like the recent leak we got for dreamzzz, in wich i do have some interest because the story kinda remind me of time cruiser and the name of some set like the Knightmare ship, I feel like it's going to be a mix between a pirate ship and a castle. So yeah i miss original theme but who know what the futur of lego will give us.
Imagine an alternate timeline where Space police became the domiant theme... Having Lego space return would be AMAZING
For LEGO's next big anniversary they should do one Mainline set and one add-on promotion set for the LEGO store for each theme from the 90's up until the 2000's and early 2010's....Lego would make more money then what they would spend on production

Yes I really miss these old lego themes (atlantis, pirates, agents, castle, power miners, mars mission,...). Hopefully one day lego will have a better ratio of licenced vs unlicenced themes!
Great video, I was really fascinated by the points you raised in your video. Particularly the in-fighting between lego themes as seen later with themes such as chima and the recession. As well as the sub-theme point brought up by the other guy (I forgot his name sorry 😢). Out of all of these my themes were space police and power miners.

lego city also peaked in 2009. we got 3 AWESOME subthemes. Construction, Farming and the road rescue garage sets
it shows how well lego was back in 2009. my 2 favorite sets that i've always wanted were 7630 (Front End Loader) and 7642 (Garage). i always wanted to get 7630 because i never had a wheel loader in my collection and i never liked the 2015 demolition experts sets. and i've always wanted 7642 because of that small blue truck that was recolored in 2011 for a police helicopter set (fun fact. it is believed that set 7731 (Mail van) from 2008 is actually the blue truck from 7642 but colored yellow and converted to a van.) overall, i never got those 2 sets as i was born in 2010. as lego sets have a lifespan of 2 years before they are discontinued. i would be about 1 year old when they got discontinued
I'm really gonna miss both Power Miners and Exo-Force since they have been my favorite themes besides Bionicle and Hero Factory ever since dispite that I only got one set from Exo-Force, I don't care if those themes failed I'd rather take them over the overrated Ninjago and City ones anyday since I'm starting to outgrow Ninjago and City now, I can't even think of anybody enjoying those short lived themes without listening to the articles about them failing but myself lol.

I don’t think Ninjago makes anything special or especially good. It’s actually kinda basic ass and only got lucky with the timing. Never liked Ninjago much. Sad that LEGO rather squeezes out every penny profit by reducing costs on everything they can instead of being more of a customer focused company that keeps a good variety of different themes rotating. Shoehorning different absent themes into Ninjago and City isnt going to cut it.
City’s goldminers wave was far away from the magic Power Miners had. This has nothing to do with nostalgia but with the quality of a complete new fully fletched theme with a own new story and characters. You can’t get too much out of place / fantasy when designing a wave for city. It has to be kinda based on reality. Ninjago also has its own restrictions. You can’t just make the Ninjas dive and call it Atlantis 2.0… We want themes that don’t have to fit into restrictions. They should be different from the ground up. This is variety and LEGO sadly is ignoring it. Today it’s literally you either like Ninjago or licensed themes.
And if lego made another theme,they try tò create a new Ninjago
