I am a history enthusiast from india video is very well made and helps understand people of that time more easily as this puts things into perspective really well 👍
That sounds lovely! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, and if you have any questions just drop them in the comments here. I also have a videos on getting dressed in Italian clothing of the same era, if you're interested😊
An excellent question! I wear it this way because I have never seen the demiscent belt worn on top of this style of gown, but rather worn on the short sleeves kirtle underneath. I have only seen one painting in which a lady was wearing a wide belt over her gown that had a Paternoster hanging from it, but otherwise no tools period I therefore assume that the useful belt with the necessary items such as the alms pouch must be worn underneath of the overgown. It also makes sense because then cut purses cannot get to the purse containing the coins. I simply lift the skirts of the overgown to access the items. Does not really pose an inconvenience. 🙂
I don't suppose you can recommend somewhere to get the sewing needle for hair? I haven't had time to watch the video just yet but saw a short and i can't quite make out what it's called. Sounded like bodkin (the arrow type?, logpin or lockpin. It's very early right now and I'm going to catch some more Z's so that's probably why I can't understand it 😅 Can't wait to watch the full video 💜
Bodkin is correct! I purchased mine at pennsic, which may or may not b help you. But as a stopgap, you can actually use a large embroidery needle with a large eye, like the kind used for carpet making.
that figured belt is beautiful, but is there no way to attach the other end so it isn't just sticking out like at 16:59 or hanging down where one will sit on it? That would seem to me to cause discomfort...
Thank you for the great question! Belt ends were allowed to just hang because they were part of the visual appeal, with the intricate gilt belt strap end. One doesn't notice the hanging built end at all, honestly, because the bulk of the Gown basically cushions it.
This video is incredible, interesting fun and I learned a lot thank you

Oh, to bring back at least the good parts of the period.
That's literally what I'm doing. 😊😅
Beautiful room! Where is this located?
Thank you! That is my pavilion at Pennsic. 😊
0:57 is it my phone or did the video have a seizure?
Not just your phone - I have no idea where that glitch came from! 😂
Such a great video and help for the project I'm planning/working on. I just hope, I've got enough wool to produce the fabric for at least one gown. 🙈
How would one buy a comb such as the one used on your hair?
Historic Enterprises sells them for a very reasonable price ($14). 😊
I am curious- why does the belt with attachments go under the gown? How would a Lady access them when needed?

And I have never ever had a problem with sitting on the belt end. It sticks away from the body sufficiently that that's not a problem.

Uff, qué horror llevar eso en la cabeza!
Prefiero ponerme eso a algunas cosas que se llevan ahora 😂
@monstruoguapa 😅 estoy de acuerdo!
@Beatriz por qué, si me permites preguntar?
